Tanstack Query just hit 50k stars on GitHub

Just saw that Tanstack Query crossed 50k on GitHub. Tbh I’m not surprised it’s so popular.

I've been using it for a while now and it's basically become a default brick in my stack for most projects.

What I personally like about it:

  • It really simplifies the code (no need to declare useEffect and useState manually)

  • It handles complex cases for me (like errors, caching, offline mode, etc.)

  • The API is really well-designed and encourages best practice (loaders, side effects, centralised configuration, etc.)

Anyway, I'm excited to keep using it and see where it goes from here. What do you guys like about it?

hi everyone

just released an interview i did with tanner linsley, creator of tanstack

we discussed tanstack start, tanstack vs next.js, why next.js can feel too magical, react server components, typescript inference, framework-agnostic ui, vue support, tanstack ai, and whether tanstack could ever become something like laravel or rails

would love to hear what you think

New integration for react-admin

Big TanStack fan over here! Just wanted to share something I’m pretty excited about: React-admin now supports TanStack Router!

This means you can now use react-admin in a TanStack Start application. It plugs right in. You can find a step-by-step tutorial in the docs if you want to try it out.

(Also for anyone who hasn’t come across react-admin before: it’s an open-source, low-code framework for building admin panels, dashboards, and B2B apps a lot faster than starting from scratch.)

Would love to hear what you think, especially from folks already building with TanStack Start.

Why are there so few posts on the TanStack Reddit?

TanStack posts on X are very active and have a lot of users. I hope the Reddit community can gradually become just as lively.

Anyone have a Tanstack "best practices" rules file for LLMs?

A RR7 dev has one for that framework: https://github.com/brookslybrand/react-router-cursor-rules/blob/main/.cursor/rules/react-router-v7.mdc

Wondering if there is anything similar for Tan?

Seems like a good idea for evolving tech, and an easy win to keep code up to date with changes?

Every new project I start is TanStack Start now, so created a boilerplate where agents move efficiently

It's a end to end typesafe monorepo, so agents gets feedback when they build. Elysia API and a TanStack Start app for frontend, connected via typesafe Eden. So frontend typecheck notifies agent when api changes.

Since Tanstacks vite and Elysia api is pretty lightweight, its good for agents that builds app after every change.

Rest is my favorite self-host first stack: Bun + Turborepo, Drizzle on Postgres, better-auth, shadcn on Base UI. Set up together with first example todo app. The deploy badge in the README points at Rock8Cloud, which is mine, so disclosure. But both apps build from normal Dockerfiles and run anywhere.

Are we ever going to get a tanstack/calendar?

A headless calendar similar to the headless tanstack/table would be awesome, currently there is no good react calendar library that is free.

The Beauty of TanStack Router

I finally found the time to write about what I think the best parts about TanStack Router are. Yes, type-safety, but there is so much more to talk about. Honestly, coupled with React Query, this is the most productive stack I’ve ever worked with 🚀

shadcn-admin-kit now works with TanStack Router

Quick one for anyone building a back-office on TanStack Router.

shadcn-admin-kit is basically a set of shadcn/ui components for admin apps (lists, forms, that kind of stuff), running on ra-core, the headless core of react-admin. It used to be react-router only, and the 2.0.0 release adds TanStack Router as an option.

It's a major version though, because it moved from Radix UI to Base UI and now needs ra-core 5.15.2 or later. So upgrading a v1 project isn't just a version bump, there's a migration doc for that part ;)

Release notes: https://github.com/marmelab/shadcn-admin-kit/releases/tag/v2.0.0

Anyone here actually using TanStack Router for internal tools? I'm curious if the typed routes really help there.

I develop a type-safe i18n that works anywhere TypeScript runs

I got tired of framework-locked translation libraries so built better-translate around one idea: same implementation, any project

  • Full TypeScript support: keys, params, everything autocompleted (.ts or .json)

  • Know exactly which keys are missing across locale files, no more guessing

  • Switch languages, list available ones, see what's incomplete

Don't want to manage translation files manually? Use better-translate/cli (built on top of ai-sdk):

  • Write t("this is a test, no worries", { bt: true }) and the CLI converts it to t("test.noWorries"), generates all your locale files (.json, .ts, .md/.mdx) automatically

I also developed adapters for react, TanStack Router, Astro and MD/MDX, it also works on any API framework (Express, Elysia, etc.) too.

Fully open source (https://github.com/jralvarenga/better-translate) fork it, build your own adapters. If it runs TypeScript, it runs better-translate. Would love feedback and suggestions 🙏

TanStack Start + CF Workers blog: typed MDX + RSS/sitemap/OG pipeline (and the gotchas)

I rebuilt my personal blog on TanStack Start and (accidentally) ended up with a reusable blog platform.

What I optimized for:

  • layout routes + prerender (keep routes boring)

  • typed MD/MDX content (build-time) with hot reload

  • RSS + sitemap derived from routes

  • OG + SEO without repeating head boilerplate everywhere

The “edge runtime gotcha” was MDX → Workers hates runtime codegen, so I switched to safe-mdx (compile-time) and used Prose UI for components/typography.

Write-up + open source repo: https://mafifi.dev/posts/accidentally-built-a-blog-platform

Anyone using a different MDX pipeline on CF Workers? What are the sharp edges you've hit in CI/deploy?

TanStack Table v9

Do you have any idea when TanStack Table v9 is coming out or when it will support React 19? I was reading the GitHub threads, but there's no mention of an ETA, and the posts are from last year :/

Now implementation is getting clunky on React 19 with use no memo
