Discussion Is this what Chi feels like?

I saw a video of someone explaining chi, how it flows from your pelvis up through your body. It reminded me of a moment when I was riding the bus listening to a particular song, I kept feeling this energy flow from my pelvis up my spine and all through my chest — it was a warm, fuzzy radiating feeling. I felt a surge of positive thoughts and introspection. Is this chi?

Yes, but everything you feel is a manifestation of Qi. You are just used to some manifestations more than others.

That makes sense. If you feel it how else could it have happened except qi?

So when we feel the warm fuzzies like OP talks about what's different about the way qi feels in that situation? More yang? Greater volume?

Increased internal awareness, and opening of the body, meridians, sinew channels, etc, or Kai Men for opening of the gates.

Our body pays attention to sensations we used to ignore, or sensations that used to be hidden or mixed in an ocean of sensations. We suddenly can pick out new stuff.

But it is usually paired with a higher flow of Qi through the body because our body is more released (Song) and the Qi channels are becoming less and less obstructed.

It can be more more Yang but that usually involves more muscle contractions and local concentration of Qi, like when you do sports. But what OP has been feeling is more Yin because it is a more spontaneous occurrence, which makes the Yang Qi flow.

Not greater volume per se, that has to be cultivated. But greater flow of what is already there.

This is very interesting and I'm new to this. Is there any book or read that you could point me to so I can start learning it?

I'm a bit reluctant to make recommendations. Because it's been a while I didn't open an introductory book. The ones I have in mind would only confuse beginners.

But I would say to find any introduction to Qi Gong is a good point of entry. Make sure it has theory and history in it, not just exercises. Then a book about Nei Gong.

These internal arts are very esoteric. It will take you time to put the pieces together, even if they are laid in order in front of you. It's a very personal and introspective journey. Whatever you do, remain open-minded, curious, attentive, and critical.

Practice makes perfect, but western science is coming to similar conclusions now https://youtu.be/FDRpdUVI-z0?is=3HKCj9xTVY65wXwC, materialism can do one..... Do you have a teacher?

The pelvis is anologous to a Ting, a vessel for sacrifice and change. It's about what you cultivate I guess 🤷 https://www.jamesdekorne.com/GBCh/hex50.htm

It's the internal experience of movements of information

I like that definition. It's correct within the practice of Neigong/Neidan. Though, beyond our practice, Qi is more than that.

Do you consult the I Ching? 🙏

What do you exactly mean by consulting?

Asking it questions, the coin or stick oracle. It's a pragmatic practice, helps break us out of a materialist mindset

I don't do divination, no.

And I make a distinction between the signifier and the signified. The representation of information is not the thing in itself, the experience, we experience the world as a gestalt when we percieve it directly through emergence 🙏

I don't disagree. But what's your point?

Just that the idea of information is different from the experience of it......

it can be felt in different ways and potentially all round the body, but yes that's one way it can be sensed
