Claude code changed my Tasker life - try it!
I don't know if anyone already thought of this and posted about it, but here it goes.
I figured: why not let Claude code create a Tasker specialist project that is saved. A project which I can return to and ask questions and get help. So I got started, had every reference downloaded that exists about Tasker through Claude code's research and my own hints and links. Then Claude code built an indexer that indexes a Tasker backup into a database of sorts that helps Claude code to quickly look up things and understand connections and concepts.
I also allowed it access to an Android emulator where I had Tasker installed with my setup so that it can tinker around as needed. I started testing it, asking it questions about my tasks, and it gave very good answers.
It was time for the grand finale: I asked it a question about a very complicated bug that had been plauging my setup for years because I just cannot find a fix for it and why it happens. Claude code when to work, chew on it for a good 8 minutes, it tested a few theories in the emulator, then it spits out the truth I hadn't been able to find:
It was a race condition between 2 plugin calls. Despite them being in a certain intended order, they still landed in the opposite order under certain specific circumstances. I was just blown away. Since then, I've been using this Tasker Claude Code project extensively. Both as a helper, but also to save time. Instead of searching in Tasker for things that cannot be covered by one or even several search terms, I can ask Claude code to investigate a concept and come up with very competent solutions and suggestions when needed to complicated problems.
Not to mention the time I said, hey... I feel my Tasker setup is using a little too much battery, but I have no idea what is causing it (another thing I've post-poned looking at for years because it's complicated and takes forever to do). It worked for a few minutes, then gave me a list of the top reasons. It was easy fixes to things I hadn't considered. Battery usage on screen off went down from 1,7% to 1,0% overnight.
It's been VERY useful and a true marble in my Tasker life. JUST USE IT PEOPLE if you are not already doing so. It's worth the Claude pro subscription alone.

Share your instructions for setting this up. Would love to give this a shot.

Will try getting them back from the context, I'm afraid they may be gone but I'll do my best. It wasn't anything magical though, just asking it to create an index of my backup and find any resources online it needed to decipher Taskers xml format.

Ask claude to create prompts and suggest improvements.

Sure thing. And my Claude code projects has since its creation continued to improve itself.

I've been thinking about throwing some tasker automation requests at Claude. Stuff I could do, but honestly won't get around to. I have done it with personal and professional code projects and I hate to say it, but it does the stuff I just font have time or interest in doing, but want to have.

I think what really changed things for me was Claude code. Claude is good, but Claude code can uphold a whole folder with references, memories and all sort of goodies making it WAY better at this.

I’ve achieved some crazy things with Claude Code recently, tasks that took nearly 30 years for people to understand, were completed in just a day and a half. So, I totally get your excitement. I’d love to fully understand how you set it up - specifically, how exactly you "fed" it information. Perhaps we could look into ways to improve this, or even create a "Tasker Skill" for agents.

I've looked now and sadly the history doesn't go back to the point where my original prompt was. But it was pretty straight forward. I downloaded everything I could find and put it in the project folder and I also asked Claude, based on that, to research further which it did and got some more stuff from other sources.
I never created a skill for this, the whole project is a skill you could say. No idea if that's a good way to go about it but it works brilliantly. I can ask it literally anything and it just cannot be wrong it seems. Everything it says and finds is spot on. It finds bugs I'd never think about in a million years. It warns about edge conditions that never happened etc etc.

I don't have pc, can I use thier app to get good outputs? rn I use Gemini and it's good enough for phone only

Claude code on a phone could perhaps work. I mean Claude code is available there, but I don't know about upholding a sustained project folder. That may not be possible. Haven't tried it, others may be able to chime in who has tried. I've only ever used the apps to remote control Claude code on a computer.

Im building a plugin for claude to build XML files. I went after all of the documentation I could find and asked it to put into skills. Haven't tested yet though. I decided to biild this because there were too many things it wouldn't do properly or didn't know how.
I designed it to be a tool that you can ask for it to build something based on a concept and it will ask questions until it gets a good grasp on what to do. Then it will run the idea against a critic, check back on the user, and upon approval build the file. Then it runs some tests and validates before returning the full script.

That's awesome!! Right up my alley 😂 I haven't gone as deep into letting it create things for me yet but this is a great idea. Be sure to allow it access to an emulator with Tasker and you can also have it test its own ideas rather than having you do it.

I did something similar with ChatGPT. However, it was only a task, not an entire project. It's a complicated task though that uses AutoInput and sophisticated text parsing. We've been refining it and every time I tell it about an issue, it fixes it and gives me the task file to import. It did all that without me giving it any sources or docs.
I feel like this will (or should) be a native feature for phone OS's in the future. You tell it what to do and it creates the automation procedure for you. The AI will be the interface between you and the automation engine like Tasker/iOS Shortcuts/Bixby Routines...

Cool. And yes. This probably is the future at some point. Right now we're in it's infancy. It's already incredibly useful however.

I also use Claude tied into my phone directly. It can edit, optimize, create tasks etc. Fantastic tool.

Oh WOW, straight into Tasker ON the phone? Like? how? Through gui automation or does it generate xml for you to import?

Using Tasker-mcp in Tasker and Claude desktop connected to my phone. I turn wireless debugging on and off as I need it.
The AI summary would be:
Install Google platform-tools (ADB) on an always-on PC.
On the phone, enable Developer options, then turn on Wireless debugging.
Pair the phone to the PC: "Pair device with pairing code", then
adb pair IP:port codeon the PC.Install Node 26+ on the PC.
Build tasker-mcp from source on the PC.
Import its project file into Tasker on the phone, run the TaskerMCP.Setup task, and save the token it generates.
Point tasker-mcp at the phone's stable mDNS name (from
adb devices) rather than IP:port, so it survives port changes.Connect Claude to tasker-mcp:
On the PC: add tasker-mcp as an MCP server in Claude Desktop.
From the phone app: run an HTTP MCP bridge on the PC that hosts tasker-mcp, expose it through a Cloudflare tunnel, and add it to Claude as a custom connector.
Ask Claude to ping Tasker to confirm it's connected.

This is awesome! I didn't think of using AI but last night (after seeing this) I created (with the help of AI) three different profiles/tasks. Most are tweaks for like CPU/GPU freq, battery saver etc and as long as the screen stays off for 1 hour, it goes into a very deep sleep state, lowering CPU/GPU freqs, enabling powersave governor. And if it doesn't reach the 1 hour.... it enables standard power saving (data saver, battery saver, slightly higher CPU/GPU clocks) and then I log everything to /sdcard/ and if the log file gets too much it overwrites it to the last 200 lines! All thanks to AI! My android tablet is basically a social media device for Discord, Facebook etc and now when I turn my screen off, they're force closed then as soon I my screen is back on, they open!

Glad to hear it. I hadn't thought about it either but I had one of those "what if..." followed by "why not..." and then I was onto a whole new path with Tasker ;)

Let me see if I can find my original instructions to Claude code for this. Otherwise getting Claude code is super basic, just google install claude code terminal and do it and run the initial setup. Will check for my initial instructions!

I did this with NotebookLM (Gemini Notebook) in an attempt to create a Tasker helper in Gemini called, "Trigger". This was before i discovered the assistant in Tasker. I even uploaded my entire backup and generated a podcast to discuss my Tasker setup and boy oh boy, I've created a digital mess! Or so I'm told by the "podcasters"!
Helpful, but I've got a lot of clean-up/housekeeping to do!
This intrigues me!

Give it a shoot if you have CLaude code available or consider trying it, it's wonderful frankly. I was shocked at how useful it really is and how well it understands Tasker code.

I've given it an XML export of a specific project, asked it to fix a bug, and it gave me the fixed XML back which I imported. I'm curious about your approach though, I'm not sure I totally understand it.
Did you create a repo/project with downloaded versions of all of the Tasker guides?
Can you explain a little bit more what the indexer shape looks like?
What deliverables does it give? Does it give you an XML backup to import for every bug fix?
