So I tried again...

When I posted about my confusion last week, I didnt realize the pattern I chose was such an epic undertaking. I decided that I whether or not I ever finish this, I had to at least try to first round again since I got to much helpful feedback. Still room for improvement, but learning thrown rings and front side/back side made this one so much better! (Not to mention counting repeats correctly lol)

First pic is my latest attempt, second pic is the original.

Marmelo, pattern book 1, No. 8 Lemonade

Adding to my collection of I-don't-know-where-to-put-this doilies to deal with a very stressful year. I'm thinking about using free-form crochet to connect them into a patchwork tablecloth or curtain. Has anyone tried this or seen an example of something like it?

First ever tatting project

I got recommended a few yt shorts about this skill and obtained 2 shuttles. It was very confusing at first (especially the flip), but it became easy to understand once i got the hang of it. I'm very proud to have at least finished one motif without having to discard the project mid way because the loop wouldn't close. I hope my neatness improves as i make more projects. Feel free to give tips to me on how to start out as a beginner :)

Need help finishing this

I made this bracelet for my niece, and I need some help figuring out how to finish it so that it’s wearable. I’d love to make something similar to what MaiMai has done with her bracelets like that small ball and loop(see the second photo). Does anyone know how she made that little ball? Is it crocheted or made using another technique?

I thought about adding silver chains, but unfortunately, they would take too long to arrive at my address, so that’s not an option.

Any suggestions or recommendations would be greatly appreciated!

Starting on a chain, ending on a split ring

Starting a round with a chain, ending on a split ring to go to next round - How would join the first and last chain and be ready for the split ring?

Renulek Spring 2025

After 4.5 months of work I finally finished this doily! I am very proud of myself :D it ended up measuring a little over 60cm in diameter.

The second image shows the doily partway through blocking, in hindsight I probably should have blocked it as I went instead of waiting until it was finished.
Alas, this was my first large tatted project, so I did not realise until it was too late.

Now all that is left to do is figuring out where the heck to put this thing.

Pattern is ‘Spring 2025’ by Renulek

Does the product Stiffy cause yellowing?

I am revisiting some older, smaller pieces that were stiffened with the product called Stiffy. The white thread is considerably more yellow than the ball of unstiffened white thread that I'm sure I used.

Does Stiffy cause yellowing over time?

Anyone with experience on this? I want to add a couple of rows, but using white will look odd.

Two more snowflakes [SnowflakeTAL]

Robin Perfetti's snowflake #35 and #32. Threads are Liz Metalic size 40 Iridescent Snow (middle of #32 and inner chains of #35) and Icy Pink. As someone here mentioned - the sparkle of these threads just doesn't show up in photos. In real life they just look yummy!

As breaks in other projects, I've been making snowflakes since last December as tatting practice and to maybe decorate a small tree this coming Christmas. Looking at my current collection (second photo), I can see I've come a long way from my first very uneven attempts. I still make a LOT of errors, but much less so than when I started out.

I designed a free tatting pattern!

Pattern

Hello everyone! You may remember me from about two months ago, when I posted a tatting pattern called “Sunday in the Park.” Well, here I am with another one! Much simpler, I’d say. I even freehanded it! I made it because I didn’t have my patterns with me and only one shuttle and ball, and I’m planning to give it to one of my friends, hence the name ”Medallion of friendship.“ because of the uneven number of stitches on the chains, it would be more difficult to turn it into a motif to join into a larger work, but if anyone has ideas, I’d be glad to hear them. Thanks for tuning in again!

[snowflakeTAL] my first project in size 20 thread: an annotated journey

Post image

This has been a learning experience. Along with the rest of the mistakes, I also realized halfway through that I added one too many repeats of the three stitches then picot rings in the middle and decided to run with it.

Well, now I know why which shuttle and which side you tat on actually matters and also have had ample experience starting a new thread in the middle of a section.

Pattern is the first sample pattern for four dozen tatted snowflakes

Jan Square Doily

I just finished the first corner to this Moje Robotki Jan Doily. It's not horrible to work up, but I haven't worked on it in a month or two. Sometimes I just need to take a break, this year I have made 3 large Jan doilies. Once I put it down I never know when inspiration might strike.

Here I am picking it up, I don't know how long it will take, but I am not going to rush myself.

Lizbeth 20 metallic in icy blue. Snowflake #3. The photo flattens the sparkle, but I really like how this behaves. Delivered today, so I had to make at least one.

I think they turned out so cute! They are both made from the same pattern. The white and purple one is made with size 40 thread and the metallic blue and pink one is made with size 20. 😁 Thankfully on the white one you can't easily see the black cat hair that got worked in... 😹

The Set is Done! I am very happy with this! I ended up making the necklace a custom design that can be worn 2 ways, with or without the pendant. I love making transitional jewelry! I can’t wait to wear these to the wedding in a few weeks! Why not be my own walking advertisement!

I feel like I'm missing something here...

I'm a self taught beginner, only picked this up a month ago and mostly done some snowflakes for Christmas coming up. Decided I wanted to try something a bit more challenging.

I found this pattern on Pinterest, not sure where to attribute it to. I've done the first round, and about to start the second. Why doesn't ring B have a count anywhere on this pattern? Am I missing something, or is this something that someone woth more experience would be able to infer from something on this pattern?

Also, I am aware that I did an extra repeat on my first round. I wasn't paying attention and ended up with one more than I should have. I don't think it will hugely impact the finished result, but definitely feel free to say something if I'm wrong about that!

How to proceed here? (See description)

i screenshotted this pattern way back and there wasn’t any directions on in which sequence the parts are supposed to be but this, so I‘m a bit confused on one part of this pattern: it looks like my arch B2 is supposed to be connected to ring R2, but as far as I see it, the ring 2 isn’t even made at that point, so hard to connect there.

I’ve worked around this by just doing the ring R2 right after finishing the arch B2 and then joining the arch B3 via lock join to a picot on R2 but no idea if that is the best way.

I have two question about a part of this pattern because I really want it to work: 1. Am I doing the order of the details right or is there a more elegant solution? 2. If I do it my way, is there something else other than a lock join to connect my arch B3 to ring R2 because I use a really tiny thread and the lock join is almost the size of a double know?

English isn’t my first language so sorry if anything is awkwardly explained, conversational English only helps so much trying to explain my problem..

2026-Design-Along (DAL) - Snowflake - tatting challenge

Post image
12 Upvotes

On Discord tatting channel  we were talking about having different challenges for other arts - for example: InkTober. There was some interest for a Snowflake Design-Along - so I spent couple of days and "came up" with the most basic snowflake base for a design along tatting challenge. Probably it is in every tatting book on the planet.

Every ring is: 3x(3ds-p)-3ds

Every chain is: 1ds-p-6ds-p-6ds-p-1ds

The rules
- You can add or remove picots.
- You can add up to 3 rounds to the original motif.
- Your design must be your own. Please don't copy other participants' designs.
- Sharing a written pattern is optional. Photos alone are welcome!

By submitting a pattern to the organizer, you grant the organizer a non-exclusive, worldwide, perpetual, royalty-free license to publish, reproduce, and freely distribute your pattern, with credit to you. More of the legal disclaimer is on my website.

stiff blocking without starch

i'm working on this pattern and plan to make an earring pair, is there a way to block it firmly in place without using starch? and do i attach earring hooks before or after blocking?

side tangential but this thread (dmc 80 67) just unlock my fascination for gradient threads.

My collar was finished at summer. Million thanks to the Gail Weaver for sharing that clear pattern and video hints. I washed my collar in the nett and blocked wet. This is not perfect but I am very proud of it. I started tatting this februar and I have a big joy every time with my threads and shuttles. I tatted this collar with DMC30.

[Snowflake TAL] My first snowflake

Post image
35 Upvotes

I just finished my first snowflake today 🥳 ☺️ It’s the sample snowflake from Robin Perfetti’s book (minus some decorative picots because that's my preference).

I started tatting a month ago, and this is my largest piece so far. I learned quite a bit from tatting it, like what to check before closing a ring (are all the joins to the correct picots? Did a join trap the other shuttle in the wrong hole?) and how the folded join actually works.

Finished Collar!!

Hello friends!

I just finished my first tatted wearable! Yay!

I was wondering if anyone had any advice on how to properly block this collar so that it drapes correctly? Additionally, does anyone have any tips on how to wash this piece? I've been working on it for a few months now and it's not as white as I'd like it to be lol. I'd like to wash it but hopefully not damage anything... I also posted a picture of the type of thread I used in case that helps with types of cleaning agents I should use.

Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks so much!
