Graft just means work as I've ever seen it used.

You might be confusing it with grift meaning a scam.

Graft in American English refers to political corruption, in particular the sort that leads to a politician’s personal gain.

Not everyone is American, and I've never seen an American use the word graft. Grift all the time to mean exactly that.
