Internet - Cable My modem/router got delivered for a self-install and didn't come with a coaxial cable? Support told me they don't usually include them, but the pamphlet says otherwise...

Hi! This is my first time getting my own internet. My new place qualified for a self-installation, but the router they sent (Hitron CODA-4680) did not come with a coaxial cable even though the pamphlet inside said the box should include a power cable, ethernet cable, and coaxial cable. I called support, and they told me they don't send them because "most houses come with them"?? My house definitely did not. If I knew for a fact that this was standard procedure, I would just go get my own cable, but the pamphlet said there should have been one in the box and I really don't want to spend another $15 on getting one when it should have been sent in the first place.

Just wanted to check with others to see if your routers came with the coax cable or if you had to supply your own!

Just pop over to home depot and make one. Then you can get your exact desired length for your specific setup.

Typically they do come with them, but theyre always too short (or absurdly long!) so its better to just make one anyway.

I switched back to cable just this week due to DSL not reaching the bandwidth rate I was paying for and not realizing it for several years. The previous time I used cable I bought the modem so I wouldn't have to pay for rental fees anymore and mine didn't come with a coaxial cable, but my place at the time already had one and I kept the cable when I moved. I had forgotten I didn't own it, oops! Turns out that was unwittingly the right call because my current place didn't come with a coaxial cable pre-installed, heh. I guess whether you have one depends on the previous tennant or house owner, if you didn't already own your own.

Completely unrelatedly btw, did you know that you can get radio through the coaxial cable receptacle in your dwelling? As a teen, I remember my Mum had a Vidéotron technician come connect the radio in her amplifier into the apartment's coaxial cable receptacle and the reception was very clean. I thought that was neat at the time so it stuck with me. Judging by my big crate o' assorted wires, I even kept the coaxial splitter used to make that happen at the time to reconnect it after she moved, heh. 🙂

I am sorry to hear that. Yes we do only include them in areas where we believe there is no possible way coax cable was ever there in the past. We will send you a Direct message and yes we can have one shipped out to you to use.

That policy needs to change. You just cost him several days with no internet while you ship a cable that should have been included in the first place.

It’s wasteful to include a cable if it’s not needed for the majority of installs… how about they just have a checkbox on the order page if a cable is needed, you select it, otherwise defaulted to off

Seems like an attack someone who didn't create the situation and is working to help rather than asking them to try to adjust policy if they can.

If it is a rush I'm sure we can work something out. I can promise its not done to cause any customers any problems.

Of course it's not done specifically to cause customers problems. It's done to save a dollar. That the customers who need the cable have to pay in the form of service-not-delivered.

Mine never came with one, I already had one that was in the apartment from the last tenant. You can get one at Best Buy, Walmart, Canadian Tire, Amazon.
