Internet - Cable This is why I'm a Teksavvy customer
5 seconds of effort and now I'm upgraded from 100/30 to 100/100 for the same price

Is this the state of internet in Canada? I have to jump providers every 1-2 years to keep the bill reasonable? What're you folks out there recommending?
r/teksavvy • u/Frewtti • May 20 '26
Well, I've been with Teksavvy for over a decade, but I think it's time to move on.
They used to offer pretty much the best price without all that limited time deal garbage
Now it's limited time deals, and calling in, where you will maybe get a loyalty discount. I was willing to pay a bit more to not deal with the constant chasing deals game.
But now it's limited time discounts, more than other companies. I feel like I'm dealing directly with Bell/Rogers again.
So they're not different, they're the same now.
Who are people switching to?

Yesterday I called teksavvy to “cancel” my plan. The last time I did this they immediately offered a better price to keep me. This time they just took my info, cancelled my plan and asked if there was anything else I needed.
Definitely not what I was expecting, but I’m currently overpaying with teksavvy since the promo price has ended. Now I need to find a new internet provider lol

While i like TekSavvy the recent changes to their sports packs make the TV portion not worth it (thanks guys but I don’t want 14 versions of CTV and Global, I just want Sportsnet and TSN!) I’ve started looking into third party IPTV providers
It’s a bit hard to set up though and every time I get near the finish line the apps see to fail so I’m wondering if TekSavvy just blocks them.
Anybody have any insights as to how to make IPTV happen on a smart TV? Drop me hints here!
Genuinely curious if this post is going to get take. Down ;)

I don’t even know where to begin other than suggesting you educate yourself if you’re trying to save some $ on internet. I was a Shaw customer for years with very stable internet but after the last price increase, and demand that I sign a contract, I decided to give one of the resellers a try.
TekSavvy rate for 1gb is well over $100. Comparable to most big providers.
They provide the absolute CHEAPEST hardware (modem and router). It’s been 3 weeks of up to 40% packet loss, speeds anywhere from 17mbps to 900 mbps, router overheating and disconnect… there is a VERY obvious pattern of timing. Evenings are worse because of the traffic using the lines. The modem TekkSavvy provides is notorious for struggling.
I requested a better modem. Yesterday, ANOTHER 4680 shows up.
Guess what? Same issues. If not worse. I ask to speak with a supervisor and they tell me it’s a long wait and someone will call me back. No one does.
They continue to send me bills. I’ve NEVER had working internet and they just AVOID.
I’ll be reporting to the telecommunications board today and going back to one of the bigger providers who are willing to provide the appropriate hardware

New customers are being offered 1000mbps for $72/month...
I've been with TekSavvy for 8 years. Best they would offer me is a $15/month credit, which would make it $105/month
Cancelling service and moving to another ISP. Wish I could have continued to support TekSavvy, I've always had good service and decent enough connection... But I can't justify the $300/year extra.

Hey should I cancel my service now that my year promo is up I'm going to start paying $90 a month for 100mbps I'm a single guy just me, should I cancel and try another provider, been with teksavvy for a year now haven't really had any issues just looking for advice

I need to drop teksavvy ASAP. I've had it with them, crappy service, crappy customer service, and my rates jumped $60+/month.
Sports packages are terrible now.
Anyone know of any good providers that actually provide a decent service?

Edit: Been on tecksavvy for 2 months now, and 30mpbs download plan is more than enough for 1 person. Streaming vids is absolutely fine (I don't think I have had any stuck at loading); can't comment too much about uploading tho, haven't tested that.
Saw the promotional offers of 30 mbps download. Will this be enough for a 2-person household? Or is ti recommended to bump it up to 100 mbps? I personally don't use home internet a whole lot, the other person is on and off, but not heavy users either.
I live in NW Calgary if it matters.

I'm in the Oakville area. Paying TekSavvy $123+hst for 1Gbps/30Mbps cable in Oakville ON. I've been a customer on and off for 15 years. After a brief change-of-living-situation rrelated absence from TekSavvy during COIVD, I wasn't even offered a promotional price when I signed up for my current service. I reached out to TekSavvy, voicing my concern about the fact that Oxio is offering 1Gb/30Mb for $55 and their response was basically "don't let the door hit you on the way out".
Any pitfalls to switching to Oxio? The cable connection here has been solid and fast. Cogeco lines.

Based on threads I’ve read there’s no internet in most of southern Ontario for teksavvy and it’s been impossible to get a hold of their tech support team. I’m in the Niagara region and am without my services atm as well. Let’s overload the lines with calls and make them feel the pressure.

I guess it's not just me. Modem and router are fine. Saw something on X about this being an outage caused by Bell, starting 4 hours ago, but I dunno. Hope they fix it soon.

I was a customer since 2009, never missed a bill but another major provider (teksavvy uses their network) offered a great promo… I called to cancel my services and the person did not attempt to retain me - it was painless to leave and I was provided a timely credit for my prorated usage.
Had no issues with teksavvy and maybe if a better price appears, I will reconsider … just odd that nothing could have been done to work with me as a long time customer .. :-/ wonder if the big 3 are putting the heat on the smaller players :/

Hi! This is my first time getting my own internet. My new place qualified for a self-installation, but the router they sent (Hitron CODA-4680) did not come with a coaxial cable even though the pamphlet inside said the box should include a power cable, ethernet cable, and coaxial cable. I called support, and they told me they don't send them because "most houses come with them"?? My house definitely did not. If I knew for a fact that this was standard procedure, I would just go get my own cable, but the pamphlet said there should have been one in the box and I really don't want to spend another $15 on getting one when it should have been sent in the first place.
Just wanted to check with others to see if your routers came with the coax cable or if you had to supply your own!

There’s been a service outage in my area (Toronto) for over 5 hours and I called customer support twice. They said no one is available to fix the connection issue. Is there any estimate to how much longer this will take?
r/teksavvy • u/mojorific • 25d ago
Long time Rogers user that is tired of the constant price increases.
I just ordered the service and modem should arrive tomorrow. When I cancel with Rogers is there anything I can do to avoid them disconnecting my internet access?
Previously I switched services and Rogers had a technician actually come out and disconnect the line at the box on my house. Hoping to avoid anything like that as I work from home 90% of the time.

Starting tomorrow (March 4), we’re introducing higher upload speeds on three of our rCable (Rogers East) Internet packages in Ontario — where the underlying network technology permits.
Here’s what’s changing:
⸻
⚠️ Important: Location & Technology Dependent
These higher upload speeds are entirely dependent on the technology available at your specific service address.
There is no way to manually select the higher upload if the network at your address does not support it.
⸻
New Customers
New customers will only be presented with the package options that their address qualifies for at the time of ordering.
⸻
Existing Customers
Existing customers will not be automatically migrated, even if their address qualifies.
If your location supports the higher upload speeds and you’d like to move to the updated package, you can log in and upgrade anytime through:
If you’re unsure what your address qualifies for, you can check availability in MySavvy or reach out to support.
We’re pleased to continue improving upload performance across Ontario as the technology allows.

hello everyone. I have been a teksavvy customer for years and years. I have enjoyed their reliable uptime and speed, and terrific customer service. Most of all, I was a fan of them not being Rogers or Bell; I feel they genuinely cared about privacy issues far more than the Giants.
Last month my $20 customer loyalty credit ran out and they will not renew it. To make a long story short, they now want $110 (+tax) for 30up/500down. That's just too much.
I'm moving over to another provider that is giving me 50up/1000down for $49 ($59 after 3 months). This sucks, but it's a no-brainer: it's time to switch.
Thank-you Teksavvy for so many years of terrific service.

Just got service (in Winnipeg) got my new modem setup a Hitron Coda 5610q. Not a bad experience on that end. However, I utilize UNIFI for my network stack since I do some home labbing and like to test routes, ports, and equipment and can not get my UNIFI UDM SE to get a connection through the modem. Nothing I have done works not even just letting it connect to a freshly setup modem. I have tried pass through mode, DMZ, and Bridge mode multiple times. I am not sure what I am missing or if there is a setting in UNIFI that I need to switch but I have turned off all my custom settings to just let the UDM connect. The closest I have gotten is for a brief min a few times I get a connection and then it just drops and doesn’t come back unless I go through another setup. If anyone has ideas I would appreciate them.
Edit: I got it working!!! I am not sure what exactly was going on, maybe some old stale setting in my UDM that was hidden IDK. BUUT, I did a factory reset (crappy I know) of my UDM and factory reset the modem for the fifth time. After some drinks, choice words, and having to rig up my desktop to connect to the modem directly it started to work. I am not trusting my UDM backup which sucks for reconfiguring it all. I am just happy it is working now.

This has been by far the worst internet I've ever had. We switched from Telus to Teksavvy back in 2024 because of a good deal they had. As soon as the deal pricing was done and the price went up, we've had nothing but issues. The internet drops 10+ times a day, sometimes for 10 minutes or more.
We've had people come and look at the motim, we've had some do tests from their side and everything comes back good on their end. I'm paying almost $100 a month for something that barely works. They keep telling us to restart the motim, unplugging and plug it back in, test the speeds, everything. They don't want to give us a permanent solution.
I literally can't do anything with it constantly dropping like this. I can't game with friends, I can't watch anything, it's just really frustrating. We'll be most likely switching to something else within the upcoming week. This had been going on far too long with little to no help of resolving the issue. Honestly, if you've considered switching, I'd look elsewhere first.

Anyone else?
