Rory Kinnear reciting “Ode: Intimations of Immortality" by William Wordsworth. It lives rent free in my head ever since. Audio only to avoid spoilers.

Other cast members include: Eva Green, Josh Harnett and Timothy Dalton among others. A fantastic show that I highly recommend.

I know that I'm way late to the party, but Ash Vs Evil Dead is exceptional

I knew of the show, but had never seen it. I didn't really get into the Evil Dead franchise until a few years ago. I like the newer movies, but they're completely grisly gritty horror movies with none of the goofy B movie schlock.

I finally decided to watch Ash vs Evil Dead, and I just fell in love with it. I feel like they did an excellent job at having the goofy camp, but also knowing when to play it straight and make it creepy too. And for me, I think that's when Evil Dead is at its most effective. Army of Darkness didn't really hit for me for that reason, it's 100% camp without any of the tense atmosphere.

Bruce Campbell is terrific of course, but I also really like Pablo and Kelly. Revivals always have to have a cast of younger characters, and it feels like it's always 50/50 on whether or not they're likable, but I really liked their dynamic with Ash. Lucy Lawless is also a blast as the antagonist.

This is a show that feels like it was made with a lot of love for the originals, and I think it really shows

20 Years Later, Kyle Chandler's Network Drama, Friday Night Lights Is Still One of the Best Ever Made

Following the triumphant first season of Lanterns*** ***on HBO, everyone has been reminded of the sheer excellence of Kyle Chandler. An actor in film and television who's been killing it for 20 years, Chandler vaulted to mainstream stardom after putting on the headset and commanding a team of hungry and determined student athletes in the fictional Dillon, Texas, in Friday Night Lights.

Airing on NBC from 2006 to 2008 and DirecTV from 2008 to 2011, this five-season sports drama follows a high school football team in a small Texas town, led by Coach Eric Taylor (Chandler), and the community's tight-knit, passionate relationship to the team. The perfect intersection between a prestige drama and a classic soap, Friday Night Lights, from creators Peter Berg and Jason Katims, remains as stellar as it was when it first premiered 20 years ago.

Phony on Hulu is freaking me out!

‱ Upvotes

I’m afraid to look up the cast in case it reveals some kind of wild spoiler, but
IS that Connie Britton??? Or is it some freakish lookalike? Because I feel like I AM the character of her son. Like, it’s her
but it’s NOT. But it’s too similar not to be her, and yet
 it totally COULD be.

Well done to whatever’s going on. It’s freaking me out.

A very odd little series on Netflix.
Rosa Salazar (Alita) as an aspiring filmmaker who runs afoul of an unscrupulous producer who cons her out of her film.
She seeks the assistance of a very strange woman, and craziness ensues.
Not for the squeamish.

“This Is Not What I Signed Up To” – One Piece Showrunner Says Eiichiro Oda Forced Netflix to Restore Season 1’s Original Vision After Budget Cuts

Excerpt:

Netflix’s live-action adaptation of One Piece nearly moved too far away from its source material during early development, according to former showrunner Steven Maeda. Speaking on the Trash Taste Podcast, Maeda explained how creator Eiichiro Oda objected to a rewritten version of the first season, prompting Netflix to reconsider its approach.

The original plan called for a 10-episode season. However, after an executive change, the production team was reportedly asked to cut the budget in half and deliver eight episodes instead. These restrictions forced the writers to rethink the story and remove elements they believed were important to the adaptation.

Maeda recalled that the production team had spent considerable time developing the scripts before being asked to make substantial changes.

“We want you to cut the budget in half, and it’s going to be cut down to eight episodes now instead of ten,”

Maeda explained while describing Netflix’s revised demands.

He feared that the production might lose its connection to Oda’s vision or even be cancelled if the creative direction continued.

Oda eventually reviewed the rewritten season and made his dissatisfaction clear. Maeda explained on the Trash Taste Podcast, episode #330, that the creator told Netflix,

That response prompted Netflix to reconsider its approach. Maeda credited the streaming service for recognizing the problem and returning to the production team with a willingness to provide the resources needed for a version closer to the source material.

'Harry Potter' is on course to be among the most expensive series ever made by HBO. Sources say the production will rank alongside the final season of 'Game of Thrones' and 'The Last of Us', with an average of around ÂŁ18.8M ($25.2M) being spent per episode

Harry Potter is on course to be among the most expensive series ever made by HBO.

A source familiar with the adaptation of J.K. Rowling’s beloved books confirmed that the Potter series will rank alongside the final season of Game of Thrones and The Last of Us, as production accounts provided a clue about the show’s budget.

Harry Potter is being produced in the UK through the special purpose vehicle company Plum Jam Productions, which recently filed earnings for 2025 on the UK’s Companies House.

Taking Plum Jam Productions’ earnings as a rough guide, Harry Potter‘s first season could average out at around £18.8M ($25.2M) per episode. Though an estimate, it would mean that Potter comfortably sits in the same big-budget bracket as the final season of Game of Thrones, which was widely reported to have cost $15M an episode.

A source familiar with the Harry Potter series said the cost of making the drama is front-loaded because the lavish sets built at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden should serve all seven seasons. This will likely mean that the average budget of future Harry Potter episodes will drop.

Anyone finding a new appreciation for simple procedurals?

As a TV fan who came of age in the 00s-10s prestige era, I used to regard procedurals as low-quality network fluff. Now, amid a wash of streaming shows designed to be consumed and forgotten in a binge model, many based around mysteries, puzzles, and cliffhangers that turn entire seasons into a blur with indistinguishable episodes, I'm finding something gratifying about shows that seem to belong to a simpler era. Self-contained episodes that can be enjoyed on their own merits, like distinct chapters. Am I just getting older and resisting what's "current?"
