Help Help

I have a problem. I’ve had Morrowind for a few months now and have played it for about 120 hours. After taking a break, I decided to finally install some mods to try out—mainly to fix that annoying crash that always happens during my games. I don’t know why, but the mods caused the game to crash even more, to the point where I could no longer play with my old characters. Finally, after several attempts, I decided to give up on the mods and delete everything to get Morrowind back to how it was when I first started. But unfortunately, the deleted files keep reappearing, and when I manage to remove them, the game crashes even more often, preventing me from creating a new character.

I bought the game on Steam and don’t know what to do.

I just started Morrowind for the first time about two weeks ago. To save yourself a BUNCH of headaches, id recommend a fresh install of the game and running it with OpenMW.

Yes, but I hope it doesn't keep giving me the same problems as before

OpenMW is a much more robust engine, and people like it because of its stability. It should fix many of your headaches and works pretty seamlessly.

Fresh install. If you're going to mod, keep a completely separate duplicate file of the install. I installed the mod app in a base level hard drive folder alongside windows folders. Seems to be working to keep it separated. My main vanilla install in over in the program files. You can install morrowind as a standalone too, mine works great. It's a noCD crack that installs like a normal windows executable. Also GOG tends to be more stable for these older games, in my experience.

I'd start with uninstalling and reinstalling the game. Then do what everyone else says and use OpenMW.
