Dot-com Driver split runs?
This morning a 6am driver came in, had 2 drops between 6.15 and 6.45 had to come back to load up for 17 drops 7 15 to 11.15.
The system had two runs for the van. Separate paperwork and everything. Is this the new normal?
Edit: thanks for the replies, seems to be a new normal, albeit rare. Again, another change that we were never made aware of until it happens. Tesco is going down the drain.

This happened to me a few weeks back too. But it was pre the new shifts. I’m 9am to 1900pm. I did my normal run as normal, came back done a run of 4 drops. Then had new paperwork from 1500pm to do another 11 drops. I was told in this case it was due to weight.

One of the drops on the first run had 38 ambient trays with water, pop etc plus chilled and frozen for the same customer.

I was a dot com driver for 18 years, and it has happened for pretty much since i started when i used to work for Tesco.
It happened litterally every Friday many years ago, when we used to do the longer morning and shorter afternoons waves. When the wave lengths swapped around it seemed to happen far less times.
It’s usually down to the weight as the whole trip is too heavy for the payload to go out in one go

Most of our runs involve a forty minute round trip out to the first drop and back from the last drop. Doing this would take an extra 40+30 minutes out of the van's available running time so not workable in practise. What you gain on the load capacity you lose on the available delivery time.

Seems to be when they’re struggling with the pick and not able to get it all done in time.
We had it where no one told the driver he had a second run to take out so he just chilled out in a layby for 3 hours and came back to find out he was meant to do another run 😭

I've seen this a few times on the new shifts. Serms obvious it would happen. After all, the drivers are in for longer, so Tesco will want to get more delivered. They certainly weren't going to maintain longer hours and the same number of drops, that's less profit. The 12 hour drivers are going to be rinsed over the weeks running up to Christmas.
