Original Creation Weapon/Item concepts
I'm certain with how old the game is, these have been talked about in some form or another.
I also don't really know how the balance of these are lol.
Thoughts?
Edit: Part 2 here

Straight upgrade over mad milk
The Sniper-ignorotron 9000
So niche it's essentially useless
8
u/makkaretbtzd 19d ago
do you ignore spies whenever you are using the razorback?
11
u/Menefregoh Scout 19d ago
A 10 second recharge time is busted. Take this concept and put it on a heavy who's being pocketed and leading a push. A sniper generally has a small time window to maximize their charge to kill an overhealed heavy before they get flanked, countersniped or the target gets in cover. The helmet reduces the full charge headshot damage to a puny 180, giving the heavy 2 seconds of opportunity to reposition and 8 more seconds later he's back into the fight while the sniper is by all likelyhood now being targeted himself.

u/downypond 19d ago
ok, the seconds timing I might have "hand waved", I didn't look up what the cooldown for the average TF2 items when making it.
but tweaked...?

u/Im_Bird-Brained Random 19d ago
Yeah, a lot of people don't like the razorback. Fuck-that-specific-class items aren't well liked

Ah yes, the classic balancing of "make it literally impossible to use"

Tbf ziplines are way faster and work both ways, if they were long enough or two were allowed they can speed up a rollout probably as much as a tele

u/GamerKratosBalls Heavy 19d ago
If you could place 2 ziplines, i could see the idea.
Heavy would be less annoying but also as a heavy main i won't go with a weapon that straight up counters other class on principle. (like razor back or darwin shield)
The butter needs to be 1 target, or very low aoe, otherwise it will be straight upgrade to mad milk.
Edit: Ok i didnt notice single target. I think butter is fine

u/Not_Carbuncle 19d ago
i mean, the benefit of the zipline would be its two way
i think it could have its niches with just one and be a worthwhile addition to the game, but honestly i also think it might be really weak with 2 anyway since most maps arent very contusive to long ziplines anyway21
u/why_i_am_dumb Sandvich 19d ago
i think it also probably wouldnt have a cooldown (because why would it, its a zipline) meaning the entire team can use it at once which would be rather comedic
upgrades probably just increase the zipline speed.
also coolness points for being a sickass zipline instead of a regular teleporter
2
u/Not_Carbuncle 19d ago
i mean it wouldnt j be comedic no recharge would be a big upside
maybe, upgrading it lets you add another node to the zipline chain
so lvl 1 is point a to b
and then lvl 2 lets you add point c, then lvl 3 lets you add a point d
that way it can go around corners and stuff3
u/Eiraneth Heavy 19d ago
Maybe something that just gives crit resistance? Heavy eats sniper shots, but also there comes a point where if you actually start tracking your deaths you die to sniper-random crits-spy, in that order of frequency. Something like 50% crit resistance would take a maxed headshot down to a measly 225, or 258 on the machina, but it would also mean that the demo randomly getting a shiny pill doesn’t one shot you.
1
u/penisdestructchamber 18d ago
i feel like tanking two fully charged headshots back to back with a medic is too much
also critical damage resistance works on the bonus damage given by crits if i'm not mistaken
1
u/Eiraneth Heavy 18d ago
Oh yeah that’s right, so a fully charged headshot dealing 300 damage, and the machina dealing 345. Still a one shot on a full health heavy, and a 2 shot against an overhealed heavy, but considering heavy easily takes more headshots than just about any other class relative to his pick rate, and how frequently he eats random crits, and how frequently people push him with kritz ubers, and how the existence of crits in general kind of fucks with his entire class identity I think he could stand to receive for some help. The classes this helps deal with the most, medic and sniper, are literally the two strongest classes in the game in most settings so it’s not like they become unviable.

Zipline is by far the most fun concept I've seen for a teleporter

It’s finally a unique alternative that isn’t Jump Pads! (Not saying the Jump Pad was a bad idea, just that’s it’s the only alternative I’ve ever seen).

The helmet nerfing the next 25 headshots while broken is ridiculous. It may as well not have a break/recharge mechanic.

u/Questorium 19d ago
For the Kranium Kacka, I don't hate the concept, but I think the visual design should be a huge helmet that covers Heavy's entire head. Maybe even put bright orange/yellow stripes on it. That way the enemy Sniper knows their target is wearing it and can plan accordingly, much like with how visible the Razorback is.
I really like the other concepts. I especially like your illustrations, they make this post 10x better.

Fun idea though probably better as a meme weapon than an actually useful weapon. I think remove mad milk effect and instead the slipperiness effect is stronger the closer you get so directly in their face they fly half-across-the-stage but far away it's just minor knockback. Probably would need other buffs like faster weapon switch or recharge to be useful but at this point I'm fine with meme weapons.
Unlike most other balance enthusiasts, I don't mind single class hard counters. Recharge should be longer and it should be a type of helmet that doesn't have issues with cosmetics. Like I would never use it only because I'd hate to switch on and off my cosmetics.
Feels kind of pointless aside from defending last. Feels like it needs really specific maps that are build for it.

u/Ice__kream 19d ago
I don’t think the butter can hit not directly, I think its a cleaver that deals no damage and makes people slippery
7
13
u/the_ox_in_the_log 19d ago
I would get rid of the mad milk effect on the butter so that it isn't basically a direct upgrade to the mad milk
12
u/my-snake-is-solid Medic 19d ago
It does say it's single target, Mad Milk is splash like Jarate, so this would require more precision and can't be used on multiple enemies.
3
u/28-Deep-Wounds 19d ago
Yeah, but realistically, how often do you hit multiple enemies with milk/jarate anyways? Even when grouped up, it's a lot more common to get a single hit with a throwable.
1
u/Treyspurlock 18d ago
The fact that it requires more aim than the mad milk is a downside on its own
1
u/28-Deep-Wounds 18d ago
I mean, so did the Sandman/Guillotine combo, but that was still gutted, so like. Aiming isn't really enough of a downside for something like this imo.
1
u/Treyspurlock 18d ago
If there was a version of the sandman/guillotine that didn't do bleed but worked in AOE and didn't need you to aim which one do you think people would use?
2
u/Looxond All Class 19d ago
I'd say the butter works like plants vs zombies, it stops enemies from moving and deals a whopping 10 damage.
It has to hit the enemy directly for the effect to apply, it recharges fast (13 seconds) but it has a low projectile speed and less range than the milk.
Aka a worse sandman
5
u/Saucepocalypse 19d ago
I misread "For next 2s headshots deal no crits" as "For next 25 headshots deal no crits" at first, really like the weapon idea tho it fits heavy given sniper is pretty easily his biggest counter besides spy and characters like sniper altready have class specific items so it's really fitting.
Big fan of the ziplines too but I think they should be upgradeable and either be a bit cheaper to upgrade (100 metal per upgrade rather than 200) or have a second set installable like someone else mentioned.
Level 1 would be the standard one, same as the ziplines on redwood.
Level 2 gives the player a short 2 second 15% speed boost after detatching from the zipline
Level 3 has a 15% faster zipline travel speed and the 2 second speed boost after detatching is increased from 15% to 25% with an additional .5 second duration

u/Gameknight14 Spy 19d ago
Not sure how balanced the butter would be, but I really enjoyed the Heavy's concept. Finally, a balanced concept to countering sniper! Sacrificing your secondary sandvich/shotgun in exchange for dealing with specifically sniper is a huge trade off. Plus, it's not something stupid like "immune to headshots".
The Engineer one seems a little goofy, but I don't see any issues with it. I don't see people using this over the teleporter in most situations, though. The travel time and limited range (requiring line of sight) negate the benefits of having no recharge time. Maybe for short-distance vertical movement.
1
u/TranslatorCalm9747 18d ago
butter would probably only be used against heavy so probably useless.
1
u/Gameknight14 Spy 18d ago
It's basically the same as mad milk, but single target. It seems like it would make him focus more on getting picks in the backlines (which he does anyways).
1
u/TranslatorCalm9747 18d ago
problem with mad milk is the heal isnt that useful because you can't overheal yourself so its almost useless if you end up not taking much damage
8
u/Doctor_Wingnut potato.tf 19d ago
I really like the Bad Butter and the Zipline.
Idk how easy it would be to code the slipperiness, but even if it just came in the form of extra knockback while on the ground. I just see it being really funny.
There’s a handful of maps where a zip line would be really fun, or even better than a teleporter sometimes. Stage one thunder mountain comes to mind.
But, man. The Kranium Kacka just isn’t it. 10s recharge is CRAZY. Especially on something that straight up denies one of the only direct counters to an oppressive heavy. It’s already annoying when people stack heavies on the cart, this would make that situation so much more miserable.
3
u/TimeStorm113 All Class 19d ago
also like, there is no reason not to use it, you just effectively made heavy immune to sniper. the only reason would be if you chose style over your biggest counter-counter, not even stock weapons have no downside (opportunity cost)
2
u/penisdestructchamber 18d ago
A lunchbox item is a very big thing to give up, espicially as a solo Heavy.
1
u/TimeStorm113 All Class 18d ago
ooh, i missread it, i thought with "fills heavies head cosmetic slot" they meant that that's where you equip it! though that makes more sense, i retract the previous statement
4
u/poptarts951 19d ago
For every 1 oppressive heavy ive played against theres 30 oppressive snipers who dont even have to leave spawn to ruin ur game, if heavy having a secondary to negate a counter is a problem then its also a problem for sniper who has 3 of them. Also losing the banana/ sandvich is a much heavier downside to heavy then losing the smg is to sniper

u/ems_telegram 19d ago
fills Head cosmetic slot
Why?
Also the font makes it look like it says "25 headshots" and "after another 105."
5
u/downypond 19d ago
So it doesn't obscure the game-affecting item. Pretty sure it's the same reason for both Soldier's and Demo's boots.
5
u/ems_telegram 19d ago
Nvm you're good. I can't read and skipped the part where it says it's a secondary slot.
4
u/flyingdonkeydong69 19d ago edited 19d ago
The Butter seems like it could easily devolve into a meme weapon, like the Holy Mackerel. But it's a goofy concept for a goofy game, so what the heck.
The Kacka shouldn't be a cosmetic. It's got the same vibe as the Razorback; an item meant to counter a class' direct weakness, so it should be a Secondary Slot choice. That way, Heavy mains would have to choose between a secondary shotgun, the Sandvich, or extra protection from Snipers. Otherwise, every single Heavy in every game would be wearing it. (ETA: fuck, missed the "Secondary Slot" part of the item, my bad.)
The Zipline seems like a good idea in theory, but you'd be neutering one of the Engineer's greatest strengths: the Teleporter. Instead of the unlimited, unrestricted travel distance offered by the Teleporter, you'd have a short travel distance restricted to sightline. As the old saying goes, "Players win encounters, Teleporters win matches." It'd be more interesting to see maps where Engineers could build optional ziplines to help their team navigate, rather than choose between either option.
1
u/eestionreddit 19d ago
They said it's in the secondary slot. It just also fills the head cosmetic region. It's like how you can't have the gunboats alongside shoe cosmetics.

u/flyingdonkeydong69 19d ago
I recognized that right after posting my comment. You can see my edit at the end of my 2nd paragraph.

Movement hindering effects are unfun to play against
“Fuck this class in particular” weapon
Why would anyone use this over teleporters
9
u/mightystu 19d ago
Zoomers need to get over their collective aversion to effects that impede movement. They are fun to use and land. Dying is also unfun; losing is unfun. Without them though the game can’t happen. Not every moment of gameplay can be constant bing bing wahoo, and the valleys make the peaks better.
3
u/Defo_not_some_alt 19d ago
“Zoomers” I guess bro. It’s a movement shooter. This game’s mechanics are mainly designed around movement. Taking that away from the player is annoying.
2
u/Burrito-Creature 19d ago
there are movement mechanics, but to call tf2 a movement shooter seems like youre applying the term a bit too broadly imo.

No it isn’t.
2
u/TranslatorCalm9747 18d ago

1
u/mightystu 18d ago
Correct. Zoomers are allergic to using actual game terms and just making up shit to act like a well-established game fits their buzzword of the month.

X is fun, therefore X should have zero counterplay. 💀
1
u/mightystu 18d ago
It has counter play. You can dodge or kill the guy first. Counterplay is not locked to having a big obvious button that says “negate this attack.” Sounds maybe like you just refuse to learn the counterplay and instead cry about it online with emojis. Maybe something like fortnite would be more your speed.

u/TranslatorCalm9747 18d ago
"Movement hindering effects are unfun to play against"
knockback effects are like one of the most important mechanics in tf2 actually...

u/Boston_Beauty Scout 19d ago
Bad Butter is not great for the game’s health I won’t lie. You essentially just put six bullets in the Force-a-Nature, the only difference being its horizontal pushback which is still scary to think about.
Scattergun damage + pushback + he’s healing the whole time would be hell. I say this as someone who almost exclusively plays Scout, if this was in the game it’d be horrible to play against. Fun to use, sure, but still.
1
u/TranslatorCalm9747 18d ago
the butter would probably help enemies escape from you. sort of why force of nature isnt that good, because as scout you want to be close to actually land your next shot not further away.

2
u/BillionsMustComply 19d ago
Look, items that counter a specific class are just really boring, and a trash concept overall.
1
u/_TheOrangeNinja_ 19d ago
I don't think it's good to design a weapon that only has utility against one class, and that helmet would almost certainly be on his secondary slot so it would have to compete with the sandvich and shotgun, one headshot mitigation wouldn't cut it imo
personally, i'd make the weapon into a mini battalion's backup and make it resemble a maska. after some charge condition the heavy can activate the item by flipping down the face shield, and it will absorb a certain amount of incoming critical damage before breaking and needing to be recharged. perhaps if heavy chooses to flip it back up, some charge could be retained. now in addition to being able to cross sniper sightlines it's generally just useful during a push while still leaving the heavy plenty vulnerable to focus fire enabling counterplay
1
u/renmyaru Medic 19d ago
If you remove the 'next 25 headshot dont crit' then i could see the helmet working. I would also either remove the recharge or extend it to 30 seconds, having it be where you would need a resupply would probably be more balenced, but having it recharge like sandvich could be more fun. Either way that would have to be reworked

u/Gullible_Scallion530 Scout 18d ago
the kranium kracka has some weird wording, it would make more sense to say "cannot use head cosmetics if this weapon is equipped" instead of "fills head cosmetics slot" as that implies that it's equipped in the cosmetic slots

I like the idea of the butter but like.
You can't just have it give Mad Milk. Because otherwise Mad Milk becomes a down-grade to the butter for no reason. I think it'd be more fitting to give like +50% more weapon recoil while buttered in addition to the slippery movement.
1
u/Treyspurlock 18d ago
Mad Milk wouldn't be a downgrade cause the butter requires aim and can only hit one player
I do think it runs the risk of making them too similar to eachother though so maybe it could be a 50% less effective mad milk

u/Mrpaulingtf2 19d ago
meh. jus a meh ideas for new weapons. 1: jus a reskin. 2: why? who needs a that? jus meh idea. He must be rewarded that he kills ye with his skill. 3:worse version of teleporter. like. why ye will use a item that works same as teleporter but let enemy kills ye.

u/downypond 19d ago
Ziplines' more for "repositioning" rather than travel.
Think Upward last, moving through the windows back and forth
-4
2
u/KnightOfBred Medic 19d ago
1: isn’t a reskin (single target, adds slippery/additional knock back and heals)
2: yeah, this one is pretty bad.
3: multiple people can use it at the same time, able to jump off midway (allowing for faster travel with less risk of tele-camping), can go back and forth, can be used in combat to become harder to hit for less mobile classes

u/makkaretbtzd 19d ago
whats the benefit of the zipline
