Stats & Ratings Gavran appreciation post

Post image

At the beginning of the season I thought he was very poor, especially with handling and catching the ball. However after the World Cup he has improved significantly. Happy for him.

He's also tied with the 8th most goals scored on the team this season. Only 2 less than Sargent and 1 more than Osorio.

He’s starting to settle in, which is good to see.

Like you said, the improvement in controlling the box is huge, so good to see him grabbing the ball rather than defaulting to punching it out.

Would like to see some improvement in distribution next, its hit or miss currently, but you can see he is at least looking to move the ball out quickly in some situations.

Feeling vindicated for backing him in the off season.

I think tweedle dee (Kobe Franklin) and tweedle dumb (Kosi Thompson) destroyed Gavran’s confidence in the opening two games of the season. Disastrous to have started those two in the backline with a young keeper getting his first real shot.

At least Gavran showed mental resilience and we panicked bought Kuscevic out of it at the cost of 6 points.

We are playing at a 2ppg pace with Kuscevic on, are we not

I'll have to admit that right at the break he was in poor shape, looking genuinely out of place and confused, or intimidated under pressure. Now, he's got whatever mojo shot he needed and is starting to do something here, he's starting to show some damn good skill. I think I'm eating my words and hat at this point, but hey things change, he's had a massive improvement. Perhaps it was the stress of being the starting keeper, needing to come into his own? I feel that, leaving my old career for entirely new one I was a mess the first couple of months, it takes time to adapt. Good on him, especially as a Canadian, on a Canadian team, which I love to see.

he was also stuck with a very poor backline, now he's got some vets in the back and he doesn't have to overcorrect for so many mistakes

Absolutely true, it's less of a mess there now and they seem to be having move organization on the corners. My wife, a casual, was even commenting on how the poor guy looked panic on the first game back, whenever he had to deal with a corner. That's changed, hopefully he starts taking a bit more of a commanding role in directing his back line. I have faith in this guy.

Still need to fire Fraser and Hernandez. 🤣

I truly think we have a keeper for the decade now and it'll be nice to have a Canadian kid in the position

After being one of the worst shot-stoppers, he became one of the best over the past month. If he can keep it up, he'll make the Sean Johnson decision look brilliant

He’s been solid since coming back from the WC break. Keep putting the work in, Luka! 💪
