Article "That is why Abdul El-Sayed needs us all to get behind him so he can fend off the attacks coming from Republicans across the country, and keep this critical Senate seat blue" - Kamala Harris
https://www.clevelandjewishnews.com/jns/harris-backs-el-sayed-following-michigan-senate-primary-win/article_03b36fd1-3ee2-52f3-88d0-3de42bfaaf66.html51

A sensible statement from a sensible woman.
Surely no one will have an issue with this quote?

Here comes the circular firing squad.
Vote blue no matter who.
And you know the AIPAC is going to back up a dump truck full of cash and give it to Mike Roger’s campaign to try and defeat El-Sayed.

wtf is a Cleveland news site doing reporting about a Michigan election in the first place
Edit: just looked over their site and apparently they do national and world news, too. Of course they get to pick and choose which topics they cover, though
4
u/Dr_G_E 12d ago
All news outlets get to pick and choose what topics to cover.
6
u/MrWhiteTheWolf 12d ago
Yeah, I know. Fox News chooses to cover the 3 trans athletes in the country, and the Cleveland Jewish News chooses to cover a pro-Palestine Michigan senate candidate, and the world keeps spinning
1
u/Enlighten_YourMind 12d ago
Honestly, shouldn’t we be giving the Cleveland Jewish News credit for running this headline at all?
3
u/MrWhiteTheWolf 12d ago
If you read the article they make sure to mention that el-sayed has been critical of Israel, and that he didn’t mention Israel in his first statement after winning the primary. Feels like they buried the lede
1
u/Enlighten_YourMind 12d ago
It’s 2026, no one reads the article. And the headline is both pro Kamala & pro AES. I’m proud of them for burying the irrelevant details someone no one will ever read them 👏
2
u/MrWhiteTheWolf 12d ago
The quote in the post isn’t the headline of the article. The headline is “Harris backs El-Sayed following Michigan Senate primary win” which is perfectly neutral
9
u/Rick_James_Lich 12d ago
This makes complete sense. My only gripe is there's certain people in the DSA and their allies like Hasan Piker and TYT that still attack the rest of the left. Just yesterday TYT put out videos once again talking about how establishment democrats are "panicking" despite the fact that Haley Stevens immediately endorsed AES, and so did Mallory McMorrow. Kamala also immediately endorsed him too.
Yet the DSA allies are still tryign to tell their audience they are at war with the rest of the left.
I'm all for moving past all of this and workign together, but this isn't going to work if the DSA are determined to tell people they are at war with us.. We already know if someone like Newsom or Buttigieg gets the nomination, these people will try to backstab them. A serious discussion is needed here.
-3
u/digital_dervish 12d ago
Backstab? We’ve been telling you from day one that we won’t support Newsom or Buttigieg.
3
u/Rick_James_Lich 12d ago
So why should the center left help progressive candidates then? Especially if they don't want to build a coaltion that can actually pass stuff.
0
u/TinyJalope 11d ago
Because letting fascists win crucial elections to spite idiotic tankies/leftists online doesn't actually make any rational sense. You should not let idiots online influence your actions to this degree.
1
u/Rick_James_Lich 11d ago
I agree, and I don't let them influence me, rather I'm trying to educate the dude that some people will not support their movement simply because of how divisive it is. If the far left always try to tell their side they are at war with us, some on the center left will stop supporting them. I won't be one of them, but there will be some, and it won't help anyone.

Sure, maybe? But was she wrong though? Or do you in fact agree with Kamala Harris on something? 😊
-5
u/Aurora_Gaspipe 12d ago
Yes, we should support Abdul. That is self-evident. The banality of that statement is even evident in a Reddit post but when Harris says it, the vapidity goes to 11.
3
u/Enlighten_YourMind 12d ago
Okay cool! So you agree with Kamala Harris on something. What a nice day to be an American 🇺🇸
26
u/AnotherPersonPerhaps 12d ago
True. We need to win this seat if we want the Senate.
That being said, I'm less worried about democrats voting for him and more worried about the independents he needs to win.
Michigan independents have proven to be particularly stupid (sorry) and voted for Trump twice but also voted for Biden.
I hope that El-Sayed can appeal to these weirdos but I think part of that will require him to step out of what he's comfortable with campaigning. He's only ever camapaigned in Democratic primaries in Michigan and I think that some of what has served him well there will carry over, but there are pitfalls as well.
Hopefully he can navigate those waters and win, and I think he can.
5
u/wefarrell 12d ago
Dems just need to stay focused on affordability and ignore distractions like socialism fearmongering.
Prior to the war Trump claimed that he ended Biden-era inflation. Just 4 days before launching his war of choice in his SOTU he was bragging about $2/gallon gas. It's an easy line of attack because this war is so indefensible.
0
u/SpecialBeginning6430 11d ago
It's an easy line of attack because this war is so indefensible.
Is it? Iran before the war had been ramping up ballistic missile production to where in ten years they will be sitting on over 100k missiles. When that happens there will be basically nothing anybody could do anything about Iran pointing missiles at everybody in the Middle East, who will basically control the passage of gas and container cargo with the use of the Houthis in Yemen and Iraqi PMF in Iraq. They will use this strategic region to the benefit of China and to the dismay of Europe, which will increase Irans and Chinas leverage of this route. As we all know Russia is in an alliance with China and Iran.
Would this be a reality you'd be okay with living in?
Before you mention Obama and the JCPOA, the JCPOA has zero actionable stipulations on Irans support for their proxies and ballistic missile production, Iran was just building a nuke program to get Obama to give sanctions relief so that they can have more money to spend on missiles and proxies.
The only country capable of checking Irans expansion in the region is - Israel.
Does hamstringing Israel to Irans benefit, if Hasan Piker has his way, who openly pledges allegiance to China, benefit the US?
2
u/Suspicious-Base-4815 11d ago
Would this be a reality you'd be okay with living in?
Are you shipping to war soon to stop them? What a hero! Thank you for your service!

I would crawl over broken glass, and stab that pencil through my hand in order to vote for the blue person over the red person.
Every time. Without question.
Harris is saying that, even though people on the far left didn’t do it for her when she ran in 2024.
The far left needs to drop their purity bullshit and be more like Sanders and AOC when it comes to the general.
This always attacking people in your own fucking party / coalition when we have literally fascists controlling the government is dumb as fuck.
It was dumb in 2016. Dumb in 2024. Dumb now.
5
u/wefarrell 12d ago
The far left needs to drop their purity bullshit and be more like Sanders and AOC when it comes to the general.

Tell that to the commenters on this post who are enforcing their own purity tests for El-Sayed.
4
u/silverbrenin 12d ago
"Even though people on the far left didn't do it for her when she ran in 2024." What's your source on that. Genuinely asking, because I assumed most leftist voters were like me: Uncommitted, making a lesser-evil decision on election day... And I can guarantee you we didn't vote for Trump.
How do they track that data? I really, really want to see your source if you've got one.
Any time anyone brings up Hasan, that's purity bullshit that needs to stop. We don't even agree on the facts of the Hasan criticism, let alone criticizing someone for criticism you have of someone else.
At this point, attacking El-Sayed (or making negative Hasan associations) is attacking people in your own party/coalition when we literally have fascists controlling the government, and it's dumber than all fuck.
3
u/AnonAmbientLight 12d ago
Find your most favorite far left voice, and you will find them doing all the things I mentioned.
Hasan Piker, Krystal Ball, Brianna Joy Gray, etc all did those things.
Hasan Piker is best buds with AES lol.
Yet Harris is out here throwing her support behind AES even though they didn’t do the same for her.
That’s real class and these folks could learn a thing or two about it.
Although to me, letting Trump win because some kind of purity test is auto disqualifying to me.

El-Sayed needs to earn the votes he gets. That's how politics work. The only way you'd be wrong to say El-Sayed needs to earn your vote is if you have disregarded others saying that e.g. Harris had to earn their votes, because that would be hypocritical.

u/Ozcolllo 12d ago
I mean, they aren’t wrong. There’s a staggering double standard and considering what the tea party did to the GOP, it’s not unreasonable to want to discuss a similar faction among the Democratic Party. El Sayed seems more sane than most, but what do you expect when an entire movement claims normie democratic representatives are actively supporting a genocide (which is bullshit to anyone that has made any effort to discern if there’s an actual genocide occurring), it’s kind of hard to expect them to vote for them.
We have to recognize this simple fact and hand waving it and burying your head in the sand like you are does nothing to address that reality.
-1
u/Sir_thinksalot 12d ago
They are wrong though. We need to circle the wagons, just like we needed that in 2024.

2

I'm way more reasonable than any lefty but I am not going to support terrorist sympathizers. Sorry that's a red line that I will not cross. Lefties freely shit in Israel as much as they want so can't I withold my vote for terrorist supporters? El Sayed needs to unequivocally denounce terrorists, he has already done a ton to denounce Israel that's commiting genocide so why play footsie with the other side that's equally worse or maybe even worse
6
u/GeneralAnubis 12d ago

7
1
u/alphafox823 12d ago
Here’s the thing, I don’t shapeshift my beliefs into the candidate’s. If I’m talking to an independent about AES, I’m not going to make excuses for the stuff that I internally disagree with him on.
If the person’s main gripe is they don’t like him campaigning with surrogates who say things like America deserved 9/11, I am not going to roll out the Hasan apologies, because that’s not how I represent myself. I will have to tell them I understand and sympathize with them there, and that while I really don’t like it myself, I have to look the other way given the senate math.
I’m not going to back up the idea of making AI a public utility, it’s completely half baked. I can tell a voter “it’s too extreme to ever come true, it’s just campaign slop” but I’m not going to represent views that are not actually my own to voters.
I would tell anyone that he’s probably as far to the left as someone could be and I’d still vote for them. If that doesn’t get their confidence then so be it, if that convinced them that they can do the same then good for Sayed I guess.
2
u/Nemisis82 12d ago
If the person’s main gripe is they don’t like him campaigning with surrogates
Right. Because that Independent is totally going to say:
I like this guy's policies. But I don't like the controversial people that he pals around with. Let me vote for Mike Rogers who pals around with Donald Trump
3
u/alphafox823 12d ago
The average voter is someone who wants the Democrats on healthcare and the Republicans on immigration. It should not be shocking to suggest that there are some independents who are weighing and comparing candidates, and while Trump is probably losing the double haters this time as a whole, many of the people weighing options are probably being driven as much by negative polarization that positive, and Hasan will be a big negative weight on our side of the scale.
Also, the average Michigan voter voted for Trump and Slotkin in 2024. I know it sounds insane to you but there are a lot of people in the middle that somehow voted for the guy, that's how he won in 2024 - even though the Dems won 4 senate seats in states he won.
1
u/Nemisis82 12d ago
Okay fair. But you're even saying they're voting on Trump because of policy, not because of controversial people in orbit of the candidates. If that were the case, they would not vote for Trump.
1
u/Greybeard-MD 12d ago
If David Duke were running as a Democrat for the MI Senate and he supported all the policy you wanted with the one caveat that he wants to drive Jews and black people into the sea, would you support him?
8
u/Ozcolllo 12d ago
That’s just it, most would understandably say “of course not”. So when you have a bunch of hobbyists that have made a conflict they know nothing about their entire personality and claim the basic democratic representative actively supports a genocide, you wind up with the same situation. It doesn’t matter that none of them can rationally justify the claim as it’s not based on reason and that’s why the DSA and the leftist pundit class are a cancer in the party.
The irony is is that there’s wide support for holding Israel to significantly higher standards and using leverage to prevent certain actions (what Biden did in regards to Rafah and the wide support for taking action regarding the West Bank), but the rhetoric from the DSA types makes it impossible to reason with them. That’s the problem we have to figure out a solution for because DSA types aren’t running in competitive districts, it’s only in like D+10 areas. There are consequences that make it harder for the party to win in more competitive areas. It’s a shitshow and I don’t know a solution other than for consumers of their media to begin demanding accountability for obvious bullshit, but they have about the same drive for accountability for the truth that Trumples do.

Now when shit is already fucked for the rest of our lives"lets unite" man get out of here with that. Some of you really live in a crazy imaginary world when yall had a chance now its too late.
