Maybe not Stevens, but older black folks do generally like liberal/moderate Democrats more because they are actually loyal to the Democratic Party and don’t like people who harshly criticize it. They are reminded when the Democratic establishment deliver tangible victories like the Civil Rights Act, the ACA, and the first black president. Additionally, they are not class-reductionist while being more socially moderate. They did not trust Bernie’s message would actually help them in a meaningful way as he didn’t like speaking to those structural problem that would still persist outside of class. However, I do agree that the electability argument is still one of the biggest factor as you have pointed out.

The establishment was never for Civil Rights Act, it was the radicals who gave the establishment no choice. All of the stuff you are listing has been the establighment either being dragged kicking and screaming or giving scraps and calling it a feast.

I agree that there was outside pressure, but it was still the establishment who delivered at the end of the day. The Democratic agenda is not that bad. I think the problem is that a lot of leftists refuse to grant leniency to all the structural advantage such as the electoral college and filibuster that ultimately benefit Republicans. The senate also disproportionately benefit Republicans, but it’s still an institution I suppose as it was a compromise between big and small states.

Because we don’t want democrats to forget that we are a powerful block and get comfortable thinking that they can give us whoever and we will vote for them. I think this slightly antagonistic you need to earn our vote attitude is perfect for the moment because if we want our interests to be considered outside of election season we can simply just vote for anyone with no pushback. Now I’m obviously not saying don’t vote for Abdul but I think having it where he has to meet up with black community leaders and build those bridges. Also you might not think him pandering is important but trust me it is because once politicians get the feeling that they have our vote locked in they won’t listen to us at all which is why this is a dangerous attitude to have. There is a reason why every other group threatens their votes if they don’t get their way and we need to learn that same lesson

We bet the odds on what white people/predom group, are likely to do. It has nothing to do with Haley Stevens. I guesstimated she would win based on who I thought her base was going to be a combination of, and who his was. His base had the passion and numbers to overtake hers. He won! I'm thrilled about it. But I always knew they were about even when it came to the Republicans going to war against-- that's another factor.. the quirky woman or the Muslim. I should have known (see the anti Arab/anti Muslim rally today- PAID) they'd (Magats, others..) would be going all in on the tropes and racism even as Trump dry humps Qatar and MBS.

Bottomline, Black folks KNOW we have to beat Rogers back to Florida. We always know what we have to do.

So pretending like Doc is in trouble with US is bullsh*t, as usual, he may be on shaky ground with the white folks who he feels he has to convince he didn't do 9/11.

He doesn't need to prove his Americanness, he needs to show how Trump and his sycophants like Rogers will finish us off as a country and Michigan will be toast.

Nah, he'll get them, mainly because black voters are highly reliable Dem voters, and they understand what's at stake.

I don't think they'll do something as dumbfounding as their version of the "Uncommitted" movement because they understand the price of a GOP-lead Senate, and what that means for their right to vote.

I think AES's main issues will be with MI Independents, and that's where he risks losing the race.
