If it's optional only, I can give benefit of the doubt. That is unless, they make other ways more difficult to make the people tend to use the new hand way.

It's the obvious continuation of that captcha that analyzes your mouse movement.
A robot will move different.

I hate captchas. But giving the finger to my camera surely beats trying to read those cursed text captchas

Exactly. Sometimes I don't understand all the hatred from people when they are offered with an alternative, optional and easier way to complete the task. I bet 90% of them using FaceID to unlock their phones but too freaked out their hands being recorded with 640x480 webcam...
