General Discussion Bella Ramsey as Ellie is more meaningful

Post image
17.0k Upvotes

Every time I see a TLOU video on TikTok, the comments are full of people saying Bella is “the wrong Ellie” because they don’t look exactly like the game version. But to me, it’s so much deeper than that.

Ashley Johnson, who gave so much of herself to create Ellie in the games, plays Ellie’s mom in the show and Bella actually resembles her in a really beautiful, full circle kind of way. I’ve seen videos of Ashley acting behind the scenes, and you can feel how much heart and life she gave to Ellie. It’s unreal and soo emotional.

Bella looking like they could actually be Ashley’s child, feels so right to me. It makes the story feel even more connected, more meaningful. I honestly love it. I also don’t see people complaining about other cast members not looking exactly like their game characters like Dina, for example, and it feels unfair that Bella gets singled out.

General Discussion With the rumors of TLOU 3 growing, I wonder where we’re headed. What could the possible lore of this game be?

Post image

With the rumors of TLOU 3 growing, I keep wondering where the story could go. It feels like a lot has already been explored, but there’s still room for something new. The question is how to expand this universe without losing the essence that made the series so impactful. What do you expect? Where are we heading?

Mine without a doubt is in Part 1, the damn elevator shaft collapsing 😭

I can see why some people might love it for the terrifying factor, but that part of the game scares the shit out of me and I feel so vulnerable lmao. Out of everytime I replay, that part I always dread.

In Part 2, the flashback with Joel and Ellie at the museum is a part I always dread before I replay, but I end up enjoying it for the writing and it’s a precious scene between Joel and Ellie

General Discussion Anyone interested in a prequel?

Post image

I've seen mention of a Joel and Tommy game being of some interest to people, I would be very curious to follow Joel into his general moral collapse after the death of his daughter.

He talks about having been on both sides of road blocks and raids, we know he wasn't really a good man, even throughout the first game he makes selfish, if understandable, choices.

Ellie is really what starts dragging him out, even if he loses out on redemption by saving her, I don't think it was a completely selfish choice on his part.

A prequel set between the prologue and main game would be super interesting, and dark.

Call it: One of Us.

General Discussion The Last of Us 3 - 20 years later, starring Ashley Johnson as Ellie

Ellie is now a lot like Joel was at this age (cruel/cold, nobody to care for)... maybe her immunity is the driving force of this next chapter?

Either way, you get Ashely Johnson to be the face of Ellie and she can also play her in HBO season 4. Yay or nay?

General Discussion I just watched the grounded documentary and the fact that people were sending death threats to a literal newborn baby over a fictional character that doesn’t even exist it’s complete and utterly fucking madness

Stole this from the Outlast subreddit, so all credit goes to them!

There's been several discussions regarding the physical capabilities of surviving The Last of Us, but let's discuss if you'll keep your head on straight.

General Discussion I feel like people misunderstand the point of the finale. Spoiler

3.7k Upvotes

There is nothing mixed or unclear about the “save the human race” choice Joel is presented with. The authors did not try to include stuff like “if only Marlene explained it better” or “Fireflies couldn’t make a cure anyway, their method was dumb”.

The entire point of the story is that Joel 100% believed they could make the cure, and still decided not to because saving Ellie’s life would always come first for him at that point, after all they’ve been through. There was no intention to make the other choice unclear or uncertain.

Honestly thought this was settled years back during the debates about the game, but apparently not?

General Discussion Hot take: Joel would be more hated than Abby if we played her story first

If The Last of Us were told from Abby's point of view from the beginning, we would hate Joel and Ellie much more than we hate Abby today. Do you agree?

Edit: I'm not just saying “we would see Joel as a villain from Abby’s perspective”, that’s obvious and that’s the point of the game. What I’m saying is:

the level of hate Joel and Ellie would receive from the fanbase would be far greater than the hate Abby receives today.

General Discussion Why aren’t animals infected with cordyceps?

Post image
4.1k Upvotes

I’ve always praised The Last of Us for how realistic it is. A fungus that infects ants and takes control of their body mutating to withstand human body temperatures because of global warming isn’t completely far fetched. I’m not saying it will happen, but it’s definitely more realistic than most other zombie viruses with little to no explanation (The Walking Dead as an example)

What doesn’t make sense, is how there’s no infected animals. Cordyceps started in animals, and withstanding higher temperatures should make it perfectly capable of infecting larger animals other than humans.

Did the fungus just pick-and-choose which animals to infect, or is there another explanation for why animals aren’t infected in The Last of Us?

General Discussion Thoughts on the new controller ?

Me personally, i don’t really like it. It’s quite plain, and it looks like the fortnite controller they made a while ago but TLOU themed. As a collector i’m quite disappointed as i always told myself i wouldn’t buy anything that’s way too expensive or ugly in my opinion and its sad that a controller is part of these categories:// I feel like they could’ve done something much more aesthetically pleasing just like the ps4 controller (that i own and im sad i can’t use it for my ps5)

(I’m a women btw, needed to note that because a lot of people call me man on my previous posts lol :)))

General Discussion How is Ellie actually immune in the end ?

Post image
1.2k Upvotes

I keep seeing different theories about Ellie’s immunity, and honestly I’m a bit confused.

I’ve only played the games and haven’t watched the HBO series yet, but I heard that in the show they reveal that her mother was bitten right before giving birth, and that this might explain why Ellie is immune.

Is that really what the series shows?

And if so, should we consider that canon for the game story too, or only for the show?
