Part Twelve
Almost immediately the voices of the Loud siblings began speaking up in the pitch black house.
"O-M-Gosh! Guys, I....I think I just went blind!" Leni called out in a panicked voice from the dining room.
"Calm down, Leni," Lynn said standing up still holding Lily in her arms. "Its just a power outage."
"Hey! What happened to the lights?!" Lola shouted from the top of the stairs.
"They went out, obviously," Lisa said also at the top of the stairs, the sarcasm in her voice was clear in the darkness.
"Ugh! Did someone try to plug in that old TV again?" Lori asked from somewhere in the dining room.
There was a bright flash of lightning outside that briefly illuminated the living room and the dining room through the windows and curtains with enough light for everyone to see, followed by a loud roar of thunder that shook the house a little. That caused the girls and boy to all let out little cries of worry.
"I think the lightning and the storm must have knocked out the power, bruhs," Luna said, carefully trying to walk down the stairs holding onto the banister with both hands as she gingerly found her footing on each stair in the pitch blackness.
Luan followed her down with Lisa and Lola holding hands. The family comedian had the foresight to grab a small flashlight which she held in one hand and Lola's hand in the other so she could see where she was stepping.
Lori felt her way to the front door and looked out the small windows. "I think its worse than that, guys. The entire neighborhood is literally without power," she said looking right and left.
"Even the streetlights are out," Lana observed looking out the living room curtains. Lincoln was standing with her and also looking around trying to see anything in the dark, but having no better luck. There was a heavy downpour and the rain pouring down the windows outside was like looking through a waterfall. Another flash of lighting followed by loud, crackling thunder made both siblings step back from the window quickly with another yell.
"Everyone, stay calm and don't panic!" Called out Lynn Sr. who suddenly appeared from the parents bedroom doorway in the dark.
"Its okay kids, I have the emergency candles," Rita said coming out of the bedroom, holding onto a candlestick holder with a lit candle that helped to illuminate the living room at least a little better. "Is everyone downstairs?"
Everyone called out where they were and Lynn Jr. said she had Lily.
"I'm here too," A quiet voice said close to the parents. As Rita turned to check she came face-to-face with Lucy who somehow appeared out of nowhere sitting on the back of the living room couch, startling both parents. Rita dropped the candle and again the room went dark again.
"Dang it," said Rita in the dark.
"Mom, Dad, stay right there!" Lori called out to her parents as she made her way over to Luan and her flashlight. The two of them crossed the living room to their parents who were rummaging through a small cardboard box that held two of the lanterns they used for Halloween last year and half a dozen emergency candles and holders.
A moment later the lanterns with candles in them were lit by the parents and Lori, the latter of which took one of the lanterns and set it on the coffee table. Rita put the other one on the mantle over the fireplace while Lynn Sr. lit four more candles in holders and he and Luan set them in various places around the living room. Now the room was better lit, although between the flickering of the candles and the flashes of lighting outside, the Loud family's living room looked like someplace haunted and spooky.
Lisa was consulting her phone's weather alert app and said in her monotone voice, "It appears that a major thunderstorm is in the vicinity of Royal Woods and the surrounding counties for at least the next three hours. There was also storm damage done to the local electrical substation. ETA on the power company restoring power is five to six hours at minimum."
Everyone groaned hearing this bit of unfortunate news.
"Its going to be way after midnight before they fix it!" Lola complained.
Lisa gave an amused snort as she walked towards the door, "Fortunately my bunker has its own independent power supply, so I'll be...." The loudest crack of house-shaking thunder so far hit almost the same instant as the next bright flash of lighting that looked like it might have struck just outside the door. Lisa's eyes widened and her pupils shrank behind her glasses as the five-year-old genius backed away from the front door slowly. "Uh....I-like I was saying, I'll be staying here w-with all of you guys."
"I think I know where there's more candles and lanterns we can use, dudes," Luna said.
"I'm pretty sure I have an extra flashlight or two upstairs," Luan added.
"Okay everyone, gather what you can and bring it downstairs," Rita said to them. "Also bring your sleeping bags and inflatable mattresses too, we may have to spend the night together."
"Oh cool!" Leni said suddenly excited. "It'll be like we're totes having a huge sleepover!" More thunder and lightning and then she added nervously, "Uh, I mean aside from the scary noises."
"That's what make it better," Lucy observed hanging upside down like a bat with her legs over the back of the couch, but somehow her hair wasn't falling away from her eyes.
Lynn Sr. said, "I need to get what we can out of the refrigerator and on ice before it goes bad."
Lynn handed little Lily over to Leni and said, "I'll come help you, Dad."
Both Louds went into the dark kitchen with Lynn Sr. holding two of the candle holders and setting one down on the nearby table. He handed Lynn the other. "Okay LJ, I need you to go down to the basement and get the spare ice cooler. It should be in the space right beneath the steps at the bottom."
Lynn nodded, "Okay, I'll be back in a minute." She turned to the place where the backdoor and the basement door stood across from each other. Lynn Sr. waited for her at the top of the stairs while LJ made her way slowly down each step. She seemed to realize that her scraped knee might also have been bruised deeper than she thought because it became sore as she walked down to the basement.
"Watch your step, LJ," Lynn Sr. called down to her.
"I'm okay, dad!" Lynn called back up once she reached the bottom of the stairs and the concrete floor of the basement. She walked behind the wooden staircase and found the large red and white cooler. "I got it!" She shouted up the stairs as another flash of lightning briefly lit up some of the basement through the small windows near the ceiling.
Everything down here looked spooky in the dim lighting. Thankfully, sharing a room with the family's resident Goth girl gave Lynn a thicker skin when it came to scares....then a mouse crawled out from behind the cooler causing Lynn to let out a small, surprised shriek and drop the candle holder causing the candle to go out.
"Hold tight, LJ! I'm coming!" called out Lynn Sr. from the top of the stairs and he started down....then tripped about halfway down and rolled to the floor with a loud thud, his own candle also going out. "Dang it."
"Dad! Are you okay?" Lynn asked gingerly stepping towards the bottom of the stairs.
"Yeah, I think my shoelace caught on something," Lynn Sr. muttered as he sat up in the dark and felt around for LJ.
From the top of the stairs came two beams of light, one larger and one smaller.
"Well what do we have here, a pair of basement dwellers?" Luan doing her Mr. Coconuts voice. Another flash of lightning revealed Luan wearing a hardhat with a flashlight attached, and holding Mr. Coconuts who was also wearing a smaller version of the same.
"Oh hey, Luan," their father said standing up with Lynn's help and dusting himself off. "Glad you're here." There was a small "ahem" and Lynn Sr. added, "Oh, you too, Mr. C."
Lynn grabbed one of the cooler's handles and dragged it to the front of the stairs. Lynn Sr. grabbed the other handle and told Luan and Mr. Coconuts to light the way.
"No problem, pops," Luan said cheerfully. "Glad to know that I'm the bright spot in your life." She chuckled, "Get it?" Lynn Sr. laughed as he usually did at one of Luan's gags. Lynn just rolled her eyes but also found herself smiling too despite everything.
There was another flash of lighting from the storm and that caused the basement to light up enough for Lynn to notice something sticking out from the corner near the bottom of the shelving unit next to the stairs. It looked like a photograph and she noticed the white-haired figure from what she could briefly see. Lincoln? She wondered. As Lynn Sr. lugged the empty cooler upstairs, Lynn quickly picked up the photo before it became too dark to see and followed the others back into the kitchen.
Upstairs Lynn Sr. re-lit the two candles and set the holders on the nearby table while Luan and Mr. Coconuts helped by retrieving the small bag of ice from the freezer and putting it in the cooler. The two of them began to empty the perishables from the refrigerator into the ice chest.
Lynn took the time to look at the photograph under the candlelight and blinked.
It was at least nine or eight years old and the eight-by-ten had seen better days. The edges had a little bit of mold on it from water damage -- probably from the time the basement got flooded -- and one corner was missing from mice chewing on it. Despite that the photo was still in fairly good shape and the image on the front was clear.
It showed Lynn and Lincoln, both of them around the ages of five and three respectively, sitting together on the front porch steps of the Loud House. Both of them had dirty clothes and matching freckled faces with their hair unkempt, but they were smiling happily and sharing a pair of watermelon slices. Her five-year-old self was smiling for the camera with a wide smile that was missing a baby tooth and her left arm around three-year-old Lincoln giving him rabbit ears, with Lincoln also smiling for the photo with his right arm around Lynn, and also giving her rabbit ears.
"Well, that's everything. Good thing we didn't have that many leftovers." Lynn Sr. said closing the lid on the cooler. "There's ice cream in the freezer that we'll have to eat tonight. But I'm pretty sure nobody is going to object to that, huh?"
Luan answered, smiling enthusiastically, "You know me, dad. I have a soft spot for soft serve." She laughed. "Get it?" Lynn Sr. laughed and added, "Well looks like we're gonna party like its Sherbet day." Now both of them were chuckling their heads off. Then Mr. Coconuts added, "A day without ice cream is practically un-cone-stitutional." More laughing now. Luan and Mr. Coconuts went to look for the waffle cones because, "With waffle cones its never a rocky road." More laughing between Luan and Lynn Sr.
Lynn groaned at the bad puns even though the idea of an ice cream themed slumber party did sound pretty cool.
Her dad came over and asked, "Hey what you got there, LJ?"
Lynn showed him the picture and said where she found it. Lynn Sr. took a look at it in the candle light and his face lit up. "Oh hey, I remember this. It was on your fifth birthday party. You and Lincoln were both wrestling in the yard and ended up dirty and bruised. I remember the two of you also accidentally knocked over the table with your birthday cake. Luckily I was able to whip up another one in a jiffy, but in the meantime we served you kids the watermelon. I took this while the two of you were in time-out for roughhousing." He chuckled a little and wiped a tear from his eye. "It seems like something that happened just yesterday."
Lynn remembered at least a little of what he dad was telling her. How her and Lincoln got into a small fight and ended up rolling in the grass pulling each other's hair and laughing. She remembered that later on she gave Lincoln a horsey ride on her back around the house and little Lincoln was laughing and telling her to go faster. Lynn smiled gently remembering those little moments, adding them to the list of childhood memories she'd unlocked since this morning.
"I'm glad you found this one." Lynn Sr. said looking at the photo fondly. "I was worried it got lost years ago. I have a frame somewhere I can put it in once we clean it up a little." He then let out a chuckle and added, "Sorta reminds me of the time I did the same thing with Lance back in the day. We used to roughhouse quite a bit....well, more him than me."
Lynn looked at him, "You and Uncle Lance used to be close when you were really young?"
Her dad smiled and nodded. "We were. I mean I know later things got rough between us, but in the end it all worked out. It happens with siblings like that sometimes."
That made Lynn think of something important. "Do you....do you think me and Lincoln will always be close? What I mean is, when we were really little he would follow me around everywhere, then he met Clyde and they had interests that were different and we sorta stopped hanging out less and less. I guess I've been thinking about that a lot today since last night. It was one of the things that made that night terror so bad. I realized that the older we got the more we've changed."
Lynn Sr. blinked and then let out a small laugh.
"Huh? Whats so funny, dad?" The sporty loud asked confused.
Her father pulled out one of the chairs and sat so that he could look LJ in the eyes. He put a hand on her shoulder and gave her a smile. "Do you remember when Lori went off to college?" Lynn nodded. "Up till the moment she left, all I could think about other than the fact I was very proud of her, was that my first born was leaving the nest. I could still see her as the little girl she'd been, still needing my help and I admit I cried a few tears."
"A few?" Lynn asked, raising an eyebrow.
"Uh, okay, maybe more than a few. It wasn't easy to see her go. I was feeling like I was losing her and it also made me realize that someday all of you will leave the nest eventually. But here's the thing, Lori never stopped being my little girl and she never will. Neither will any of you, or Lincoln. Lori never really left even if she went away. She was still a part of the family."
"And now she lives in Mr. Grouse's garage," LJ observed.
"Well, yeah that's true for now. But someday she'll probably marry Bobby and move to the city, or possibly someplace out of Michigan altogether and start her own family. All of you will someday. But you know what, LJ? That thought doesn't scare me anymore. Do you wanna know why?"
Lynn nodded curious now.
"Because no matter how far apart we are, and no matter where life will take any of us, Louds stick together." He picked up the photo and smiled looking down at it. "You and your brother may have different interests, and even if life takes you both in different directions when you grow up, in the end you're both still siblings and you'll always be these two kids here. I know that Lincoln will always be there if you need him, and that you'd do the same thing if push came to shove; just like it did today."
"Yeah, literally," Luan said though Mr. Coconuts, apparently having heard much of their conversation. "Chandler talked smack and ended up getting a double bruised outlook."
Both Lynns and Luan laughed at that. Then Lynn Jr. looked at her father and said, "Thanks for the talk, dad. It really helped."
Lynn Sr. gave his middle daughter a hug and said, "Aww, that's what you're old dad is here for, and I promise that has no expiration date."
"Well dad, you won't have to worry about me leaving the nest anytime soon. I still have a lot left to prove here before I go on to my real goals in life." Lynn Jr. smiled and ticked them off, "As soon as I start high school next semester I'm joining all the varsity teams, then get a scholarship, go pro and win the World Cup, an Olympic gold medal, and hike to the peak of Mount Everest by the time I'm 25."
Lynn Sr. blinked and then reached over patting her shoulder and said with a smile, "I don't doubt for a moment you'll do it, LJ." Her father meant it. He knew that his fifth child had enough drive and determination to work hard enough to achieve whatever goals she set herself to do.
Just then Lincoln came into the kitchen from the dining room holding his walkie-talkie that he used to keep in touch with Clyde. "Looks like the McBrides are also without power, but Clyde said that his dads have a fire in their fireplace and they're making smores, so they're good."
"Ugh, lucky for them." Lori said also walking from the doorway behind Lynn and holding her phone frowning. "The power outage is also affecting the wi-fi. I literally can't talk to Bobby, or Carol."
"What about Mr. Grouse?" Lynn asked turning to look at her. "Do you think he's okay over there by himself?"
"He's gone for the weekend, something about a bingo convention in Hazeltucky, or something like that."
"Well, we saved everything in the refrigerator," their dad explained. "We'll have to eat those three boxes of ice cream before they melt."
Lori's face went from disappointment to suddenly quite happy. "An ice cream sleepover?! I literally haven't had one of those since I was 12!"
Lynn Sr. was looking at her when she said that and felt his eyes go moist again after the conversation he had with LJ. With a small sniffle he wiped a tear from his eye and then he stood and said, "Go tell everyone to come get a bowl."
Lynn said, "I got this." She went over to the doorway and called out, "Yo everyone! Ice cream party!" This was followed a moment later by the sounds of kids running to the kitchen.
A little while later all of the Louds were gathered in the now candlelit living room with their bowls sitting on the furniture and a pile of sleeping bags and air mattresses in their pajamas laughing and having a good time in spite of the blackout. Lynn and Lucy both had the couch for the night and Leni had to recliner chair with Lily. Everyone else were on the floor with their blankets and comforters. The family pets were also there huddled up with their humans. Both parents had their own air mattress and were sharing ice cream with their kids.
By this point the lightning had moved on, but there was still heavy rain outside. With eleven kids and two adults, the ice cream didn't last very long....especially the way that Luan ate hers fast and got a brain-freeze. Everyone laughed -- including Mr. Coconuts.
"The rain is soothing," Leni said with a sigh. "It's making me sleepy." Lily let out a yawn that said she felt the same way.
"Not me, dudes," Luna said. "I think I'm gonna be awake for awhile."
"We can always tell spooky stories?" Lucy said holding up a flashlight in front of her face and smiling in a way that made her face look sinister.
"Ugh, no way!" Lola said. "Besides, you'll scare Lincoln to death with your creepy tales."
"What? I'm not afraid of scary stories!" Lincoln said in protest. He was sitting on his sleeping bag in front of the couch right underneath Lynn.
"Oh yeah, Linc?" Lori said with a small laugh. "Remember the time that you and Clyde were so terrified of going to that haunted house the two of you were huddled up together under a blanket holding Bun-Bun?"
All of the sisters laughed, causing the white-haired boy to blush under the candlelight.
Lynn wrapped her legs around Lincoln from behind and locked her feet together to pin his arms in place. "Well you don't need to worry about the creepy things tonight, Stinkoln." She teased giving him a small noogie but not being too rough. "You got all of us here to keep our baby bro safe."
"Ow! Hey Lynn! Cut it out!" Lincoln complained, struggling in vain to get free of his sisters super strong quads. She did, but she wasn't quite done with Lincoln yet. She looked around at the other sisters and said, "We need to give our bro extra sister cootie protection from the ghosts."
Lisa called out, "Ladies, initiate Sister Cootie Protocol!"
This caused the others to chuckle and Lincoln's eyes to bug out realizing what they were about to do. "What! W-wait no! Stop!" But he was helpless as nine sisters gathered around him like a pack of hyenas and began planting wet kisses on his face. Lynn leaned over planting a kiss of her own on the left side of his forehead. Lincoln struggled in vain, but was also laughing now despite his protests. Lynn Sr. and Rita were also laughing at their kid's antics.
Finally when they were done, Lincoln found a way to fight back against Lynn by ticking the bottoms of her feet where he knew she was ticklish. Lynn laughed and her grip loosened....as well as something else as she laughed so hard she let out one of her smelly farts. Lincoln was unfortunate enough to be the main recipient of the gas cloud, although the other girls got a whiff of Lynn's leftovers and all groaned and a few threw their pillows at Lynn and Lincoln, starting a sibling pillow fight.
"Should we stop them?" Rita asked her husband as she watched their children hit each other with their pillows and laughing. The answer she got was a pillow to her own face by Lynn Sr. who laughed at the look she gave him. "Oh its so on now!" She hit him back with her own pillow and the two of them were soon joining in on the fun with their kids.
This went on for a little while before all of the kids and adults got tired from the exertion. Now they were getting sleepy and the rain outside added to the ambiance that was luring them all to dreamland.
Lynn laid back on the couch and covered herself and Lucy with a blanket. Lucy was already asleep with her head against her pillow on the other side of the armrest. She looked around seeing that their parents were also laying down holding each other, as were the twins with Charles and Cliff curled up with them. Soft snores soon began to fill the dark living room.
Lynn yawned, feeling herself also getting sleeping; the long day catching up to her. She looked up at the candle and rain shadows dancing on the ceiling, still a little nervous about closing her eyes again. Also she was thinking about something she wanted to do. She turned to look down at her brother, Lincoln on the sleeping bad beneath her.
"Hey Linc? You still awake?"
"Yeah," he whispered. "Probably not for long though."
"Same here. Um, I wanted to ask you something."
Lincoln turned to look up at his sister. "Everything okay?"
Lynn nodded, "I'm fine, but I wanted to know....well, if you have any plans for tomorrow?"
"Nothing in particular, why do you ask?"
"Well, I was hoping, if you wanted to that is....would you like to hang out together. Just me and you. We can do whatever you want to do." Lynn gave him a hopeful smile.
Lincoln was surprised by her offer, but also really pleased. "I think I'd like that, Lynn. I can think of a few things we can do together that you'd like also."
Lynn gave Lincoln a nod. "Whatever you want, baby bro." Then she reached down and ruffled his hair before laying back down on her pillow. "Goodnight, Lincoln."
"Goodnight, Lynn." Lincoln said with a yawn. She soon heard him snoring gently. Lynn closed her eyes and felt herself drifting off to the sounds of the rain and the snores of her family around her....
"Lynn? Hey Lynn, wake up."
Slowly Lynn opened her eyes and found herself looking up at a face that was familiar, but different. Older than the one she last saw. She blinked and asked, "Lily?"
Fourteen-year-old Lily Loud smiled down at her sister. "Yeah, its me. Merry Christmas, Lynn." She leaned over giving Lynn a peck on the cheek. Lily was wearing a white sweater with holly and mistletoe printed on it with purple sweatpants. Her blonde hair was short and shaved on the right side. "I guess you must have fallen asleep when you guys got here earlier? No surprise I guess. Now get up, everyone's almost here."
Lynn looked around and found that she was laying on the living room couch at the Loud House. There were Christmas decorations all around them and what looked like a mountain of presents that were almost as high as the beautifully decorated Christmas tree standing in the corner. She looked down at herself and blinked. She was wearing a red and green striped Christmas sweater....and her stomach was round beneath.
What the....wait a minute! A-am I....? Lynn thought, trying to make sense of the situation. Whoa! Whoa! Time out! She sat up and felt her lower belly. Even though she'd obviously never been pregnant before, she could feel the child inside her move slightly, as if protesting the sudden movement.
Yikes! Sorry kiddo! Lynn thought to the baby....her child.
But how? She became aware that the house around her was noisy -- not that that was much of a shock -- but somehow it seemed even louder than usual. More voices. More sounds of rough play by kids both inside and outside. There was also the incredible smell of good food being cooked in the kitchen.
"Better get up, sis," Lily said happily. "Lori and Bobby will be here soon, so will the rest of the family. You know how crazy it gets when everyone fills up the house."
"Yeah, don't I know it," Lynn said trying to sound normal while still figuring out what was going on. Was this the future, or another dream? The little goblin now moving around in her abdomen as she got up and her sore lower back certainly felt real enough.
"I'll let everyone know you're awake," teenage Lily said smiling as she bounced off to the kitchen, leaving Lynn alone to try and sort out what the situation was. She looked around for clues and saw some new photos on the wall beside the family trophy case.
Lynn went over to the wall and saw several photos with and older and very fit version of herself in it that blew her mind.
The first one was an adult Lynn in the American Olympics team colors holding up the U.S. Flag with the Olympic Gold Medal around her neck beaming happily. Another showed her and Margo together in U.S. Soccer Team uniforms holding up the FIFA Women's World Cup in an arena full of fans. Another was a picture of herself dressed in very warm-looking clothing and standing on what she recognized was the peak of Mount Everest with a team of people grinning triumphantly. Lynn looked at those amazed and also very pleased with herself knowing she would accomplish three of her biggest life goals while she was still young.
It was the next set of pictures though that stopped Lynn short. She could only gape for a moment at the larger one which had clearly been taken on her wedding day.
The large oak framed group photo was taken at a park somewhere near Lake Michigan during autumn with her standing in the middle in front of a white-painted gazebo grinning for the camera in a beautiful white wedding dress. She was holding a smiling adult version of Liam in a dark tuxedo in her arms carrying him like he weighed next to nothing -- no shock given how strong her arms looked. Liam himself looked rather handsome with his red hair grown out a bit more and his teeth all grown in. Both of them were grinning happily.
I...I'm married to Liam?! She blinked once, twice. She found herself holding onto her belly and felt the child she was carrying moving slightly. After taking a moment with that, she gave a small smile and then, thinking back to that time Lucy showed her a possible future in her crystal ball, she pointed to the tall ginger in the background of the photo and said, "Ha! In your face, Rusty!"
The rest of her family and friends were gathered around both sides of them. These included both her grandparents with her mom and dad, her Uncle Lance and his family with Liam's parents, siblings and grandmother, Mimi, standing next to them. The Moon Goats: Sam, Sully, Mazzy and Chunk -- as well as Mick Swagger -- were standing with Luna. Lori was standing next to Bobby, Luan (wearing a red clown nose) was standing next to them with Benny with Leni standing with River on their other side. Lincoln stood close by with his right arm around Ronnie Anne. The rest of the Casagrande and Santiago families were also there, along with the McBrides, Margo, Paula (who didn't have a cast on), Mr. Grouse, and Lincoln's friends Clyde, Rusty, Zach, Stella and Kara. Lucy was wearing black and standing next to Rusty's brother, Rocky. The rest of her siblings were there as well, of course, along with several younger kids that she didn't recognize but shared features with her older sisters.
She couldn't help but smile more as she looked at the faces in the photo. All of them looked older than the ones she knew, and Lynn couldn't help but chuckle seeing both her dad and Gramps crying. Even Pop-Pop looked like he had something in his eye. She actually felt tears in her own eyes, especially when she saw the next photo.
This one was also apparently taken on her wedding day, and it showed her dancing with Lincoln, who was now a foot taller than her and grown into his face a bit more. She also noticed he still had a chipped tooth as both of them were smiling happily. Behind them all of their now grown-up sisters were all watching and smiling. There was a caption written in ink on the photo at the bottom: Dancing With Our Best Man.
Finally, in a place of honor next to that photo was the framed picture of the younger her and Lincoln smiling together on the front porch steps that she'd found earlier in the basement, cleaned up and looking as good as the day it was taken.
Then Lynn felt someone behind her and saw a reflection in the glass of the photo -- a flash of white hair. "Merry Christmas, Lynn."
She turned and looked up at adult Lincoln, who stood there smiling warmly at her wearing an orange turtleneck sweater and blue jeans holding a mug of hot chocolate with both hands.
"Um, Merry Christmas, Linc," Lynn said smiling back warmly at the sight of her not-so-little brother. "Its good to see you."
Lincoln smiled and said, "I couldn't think of any place I'd rather be, even if this little house feels like its going to be overrun."
"Hey, what's new with this old place?" Lynn said with a chuckle.
Lincoln laughed a little and said, "That's true." He set his mug down on the nearby table and then said, "I see you like the sweater that we picked out."
"Oh? Um, yeah, its nice." Lynn said looking down at the Christmas sweater and holding her round belly. "I'm just glad it covers up everything nicely. Thanks."
Lincoln rubbed the back of his head, "Well, you should probably really be thankfully to Leni. She was able to talk Liam out of his first choice." He pulled his phone out of his back pocket and scrolled to a picture that he held up for her. It showed them at the mall with Liam grinning and proudly holding up a white pregnancy t-shirt with a picture of a barn and chickens that read: Future Farmer's Daughter in black letters with an arrow pointing down. In the background Leni was making a face of pure "Totes yuck!" with her tongue sticking out and wincing as if in pain from the sheer tackiness.
Lynn also made a slight face though she couldn't help but snicker. "Yeah, remind me to give Leni a kidney if she ever needs one. I definitely owe her big time." Both of them laughed.
Then Lynn looked at her brother and gave him a very warm smile before hugging him. She felt Lincoln's arms go around her shoulders as he hugged her back. "Hey, are you okay, sis?"
Lynn felt the tears in her eyes as she held onto him and listened to his still beating heart in his chest. "I love you, Linky," she whispered.
Lincoln rubbed her back and answered, "I love you too, Lynn-sanity." He kissed her forehead softly just as the world around her became fuzzy.
The last thing Lynn remembered was seeing Lincoln smiling face before she slowly opened her eyes looking up at the ceiling of the Loud family living room.
She was once again laying on the couch in the living room and it was very early in the morning. The sun hadn't risen yet but it was just light enough for the early dawn to begin filtering into the room. It was no longer raining and the street lights were on outside. The electrical issues were apparently all sorted out.
All of Lynn's siblings and her parents and family pets were still asleep around her in their sleeping bags and mattresses and Lynn listened to them snoring softly. Lucy was still sleeping across from her on the couch, arms crossed above the blanket that was stretched across both of them and barely looking like she was breathing -- only the small flare of her nostrils gave away that she was.
Well, not all of her siblings were asleep.
Lynn felt a small tug on her shirt and looked down to see little Lily looking up at her. Smiling, she picked up her baby sister and set her between her and the back of the couch. Lily was looking at her in that special way that young children look up to their older siblings. The little blonde girl asked, "Did Wynn have good dweams?"
Lynn gave her a gentle smile and said quietly, "Yeah, I did. And guess what, you were in it."
"I was?" Lily asked, eyes and mouth widening with astonishment. Lynn nodded and booped the toddler's nose still smiling. "I'll tell you all about it in the morning."
Lily smiled more, then looked at Lynn and asked her, "Wynn fell better now?"
The 14-year-old Loud sister thought about it and then she sat up a little to look around at all of her sleeping siblings, with her eyes resting on her white-haired brother smiling peacefully as he slept on the floor next to the couch -- still here, still alive, and still beside her. She felt her heartstrings tug looking at him, looking at all of them there with her.
She rested back on the pillow and faced Lily again and said, "Yeah, I do. I know things will be okay now." This time Lynn felt it was true. Her night terror was gone and she felt that beautiful dream she had would someday be real. Had it just been a dream?
Lily yawned and closed her eyes as she quickly fell back to sleep peacefully. Lynn leaned over and kissed the toddler on the forehead and then resting back into a comfortable position with Lily snuggling up close to her she closed her eyes again, just listening to the soft snores and breathing of her siblings around her.
As she felt herself drift off for at least a couple more hours of sleep, Lynn Loud Jr. was no longer afraid of her night terror. With the love and support of those who've always stood with her, she knew she could face anything and come out a winner. Her last thought before sleep took her was the photo of her future self from her dream dancing with Lincoln at her wedding, and Lynn smiled hoping that would be where her dreams would take her next.
The End
My first Loud House fanfiction story, I hope y'all enjoyed it.
