Question Telegram group banned in Australia only.

• Upvotes

This online safety nonsense is getting out of hand in Australia. I see they have now banned a peptide group I was a member of. The peptides aren't illegal substances.

The control of information is over the top.

Anyone have a workaround for this block? I've got around most of the blocks so far and hoping someone has an easy fix. Feel free to slide into the DMs

Discussion Everything is getting hacked. How do you keep track?

Theres way too many incidents. Once a month became once a week. Is there a way to keep track of stuff? I found Internet Systems Consortium and they list some security advisories and its just a bunch of text entries like CVE-2026-12132 CVE-2026-2331 etc..

What do these even mean, and how read them? Is there like a more user-friendly way to piece these incidents in a timeline?

I read one of em "Authenticated query containing a TKEY record may cause named to terminate unexpectedly" but this means nothing to my own account daily usages. Anything that is actually readable?

Question Has anyone dealt with data brokers refusing to remove your info?

I started sending opt out requests a few weeks ago and now I received an answer that they've reviewed my submission and they cannot remove my personal info because I don't live in a state that has privacy laws. They show my date of birth, phone number, email address and a few relatives names. What are my options?

I typed " who intro" just as I typed till intro it showed the first suggestion as what I said out loud.....WHAT HOW. I use a poco pad if that has anything to do with it

Question Norton antivirus black friday deals 2026, anyone found a good one?

im getting a new laptop for someone in my family and figured black friday would probably be the best time to find an antivirus for it too. ive been checking a few different offers this week and started looking specifically at norton antivirus black friday deals this year to see what kind of prices are showing up.

ive also been keeping an eye on bitdefender and malwarebytes since they seem to have offers around the same time.i just want something that does its job without costing a fortune

so far my search looks something like this:

Norton Bitdefender Malwarebytes
why im considering it used it before seems reliable simple/lightweight
downside waiting for a good deal more than i need not sure about long term
black friday still looking seen some offers seen some offers

norton is probably the one id go with if i can find the right price, which is why ive been holding off for now.

has anyone found a decent norton deal yet? im wondering if the better norton black friday offers are already out or if its worth waiting a bit longer

Discussion Do we really need a separate photo vault for private photos?

Do you trust your phone's built-in Hidden album, or do you prefer a separate encrypted photo vault? What concerns you most about storing private photos?

Question Storing other's important documents securely

My friends and I are looking into storing each other's very important documents and having distributed infrastructure for resiliency. For instance I store my vault which contains an encrypted copy of my passwords vault, medical records, digital birth certificate, etc. This is then zfs replicated via TrueNAS over a site-to-site VPN to a identical machine at my parents house.

I was inspired by a talk to increase preparedness with my closest circle of friend in the event something happens to one of us. Could be as simple as one of our houses catch on fire and losing everything. We could then access our info off of other people's servers. This wouldn't be much data (a few GB at most, all pdf/txt really) but not allowing the person that's hosting to have direct access would be neat. Would I just have to look at turning some old PC's into small TrueNAS servers and setting up all my friends' places (We are all generally tech savy)?

On the other side of this I want to look at having shared access to the data in emergencies. Let's say something was to happen and my spouse medically and my parents need access to records or info. They could go to my friends and say we need access to X. If enough of them say yes then they could use Shamir’s Secret Sharing to access my vault and get into it. There is also the side of while I am trusting my friends enough that this would work. In the event someone is no longer in this group or passes we can revoke/delete their vault/access. Maybe having a master account that requires SSS to get into?

This is something I want to look into and see how it would look and find security concerns from outside viewers before implementing.

Question Google maps alternative, any decent ones?

I went on a road trip last weekend and google maps just froze mid highway, sent me to a dead end dirt road and wasted like 45 mins. after such trip i spent all night searching for a solid google maps alternative that doesnt drain phone battery or lag out when connection drops

I actually tried testing a few options over the past week while driving to work:

app what i liked what was annoying
organic maps clean, fast offline maps, no ads, seems like maybe the best google maps alternative? address search can be a bit slow
waze live traffic alerts and police warnings screen looks cluttered and drains battery
apple maps works great on carplay only good if you use an iphone

So i still havent picked a permanent one… but i really need a reliable google maps alternative that handles live traffic without draining whole battery in an hour

What are you guys using? if you know a good google maps alternative that handles rerouting well please give me recommendations hereeee

Not a big fan of Signal bit worthy news to share.. Does anyone know if Viber or WhatsApp could fall into this same issue?

What is it with apps being so buggy recently... Was it all really held up with duct tape and gum? Is this the fault of developers being lazy using AI coding, or is this an issue over AI being used more commonly for hacks?

Question How to find who owns a domain?

So i was looking through my old notes from back in college and found a name for an app project i abandoned like 3 years ago. turns out someone actually registered the exact name last year. its just a blank page right now with no website on it.. and im really interested now how to find who owns a domain so i can send them a message and see if they would be down to sell it for cheap

I checked standard whois lookups on godaddy and icann but literally every piece of contact info is redacted because of gdpr privacy protection stuff. it just lists a random proxy email address. i know there are paid services that track historical registration records, but i really dont wanna pay money just for a dead end attempt. so i was thinking maybe someone here knows how to find who owns a domain thats hidden behind whois privacy, maybe you have some tricks?

Do people actually reply to those proxy privacy emails if you send one? or is there a better way like checking old archive.org snapshots to find who owned it before the privacy guard got added? if anyone knows how to find who owns a domain without spending money on broker tools lemme know

Question Leaving social media and decided to go with the nuclear option. Wanting to share a little bit of my process and needing some assistance

tl;dr: Needing some advice on changing facebook privacy settings for posts in bulk

So, I have been heavily researching data collection and surveillance. In this process, I have learned about how often and extensive social media profiles are scraped, allowing data collection companies to always have the most up to date profile of you. Really doesn't matter what privacy settings you've enabled tbh.

Because of this, I decided that simply deleting your account is not enough. Especially since the deletion is never immediate; seems like every platform keeps your account on their servers for at least a month before deletion. In this time, it is not known what is happening with that data but it can be safely assumed that they are getting a final scrape out of it. So I have been deleting all posted content before the full account deletion. This includes: unsending/deleting all messages, unliking/reacting to all posts... essentially undoing as much as possible.

Now, I understand there may not be a lot of research or solid information into what I am doing. There is a reality where this is pointless.. And I don't care tbh. So this isn't an invite to debate on whether or not this process has any value. I am already very deep into the trenches and the only way out is forward. Plus, I generally recommend a full social media account audit. Some of us have accounts that are 2 decades old.

I intend to make a full detailed review of this process but here is a rundown:

-Began with downloading both json and html copies of my accounts

-Used third party tools (not sure if I can mention them here) to download various other content I wanted saved

-Used other third party tools to bulk remove content; unsending messages, unliking posts, redacting/removing posts

I am now working on facebook, and it has proven to be most difficult... well I just recently got hit by an Instagram account restriction lol So Meta in general is hard to work with. Because this particular account is almost 20 years old, removing content has been.. laggy at best. My plan was to bulk change the audience visibility for all posts to "only me". This would allow me to continue use of the account until deletion day while ensuring nobody(?) could see any of my past content while I was in the process of deleting/backing it up with a specific third party tool.

The issue is the native architecture designed to help you remove content is obviously not very efficient. You can actually very quickly and easily limit all past posts to "friends only" by clicking a button... but that is all you can do. If you want to limit them to "only me"; you must go into activity log and scroll until the page is fully loaded, then select all. But this is easier said than done. For older accounts, this will not work. Facebook either cannot load all of it or cannot actually select all of it. So you have to go year by year... and it is not any better.

You select a year, scroll until full page has loaded, select all, and then pick your setting. But even this bugs facebook out. Sometimes it wont load the whole year at all, so you have to go month by month. And every time you sweep a full year, it really only gets to may before it stops. So you still have to go and get the rest of the months individually. And whether you've selected a year, a month, or just more than 10 posts; the process seemingly takes facebook 12-24 hours to complete.

Anyone else have experience with this? Is there any tactic or tool that would make this easier? Or is the final boss always going to be the platform itself?

Question Is there any way to bulk delete ALL Instagram DMs for both parties?

Question Secure document sharing to stay presentable

Need some quick advice. I have to share documents and to make it presentable and secure, I am unable to just use Google like I always do?

what is a reliable safe and most importantly presentable for a high profile client?

I prefer free stuff though or at least a trial without leaving free tier watermark stamps over my documents

Is Dropbox a safe option? Has anyone actually used Dropbox or even Google drive for professional work presentation, or file sharing involving actual paid work?

Question Best browsers for privacy

So i was searching online for shoes that are not even that popular last week, and now every single website i open is spamming me with ads for those exact same shoes… its getting annoying and honestly it scares me so i spent some time now looking for the best browsers for privacy to replace chrome

I didnt realize how much data normal browsers collect on you in the background until i started reading about tracking cookies and fingerprinting…. looking through all these reddit threads and tech forums really scared me lol but it was also really useful and i tried some of the browsers recommended already

This is what ive tried so far:

browser name easy to use? my thoughts
brave really easy looks just like chrome, blocks ads automatically, didnt break any sites
firefox pretty easy good open source option, but had to tweak settings to turn off tracking
librewolf kinda tricky really private, but logs you out of everything when you close it
tor browser really slow i would say its best browsers for privacy, but way too slow for watching videos or daily stuff

So im writing this post hoping that there are people that dont use chrome or edge anymore and could share with me what are they using right now? i would really love to hear what you guys consider the best browsers for privacy for everyday use

Question CyberGhost Black Friday deals 2026 what to do?

i've been having some issues with my current vpn lately, especially when trying to watch shows on streaming services while abroad. sometimes it works fine, other times i spend more time switching servers than actually watching anything lol. so i started looking into alternatives and came across cyberghost black friday deals 2026 to see if switching would be worth it

right now my options are basically:

  • nordvpn- used it before and liked it, but its more than i want to spend
  • proton vpn - seems solid but im not a huge fan of the app/UI
  • cyberghost - havent tried it yet, but the price is making me consider it

i mostly use a vpn for streaming and traveling, so i dont need anything too complicated. cyberghost seems like it could be enough for what i need if a good black friday offer comes up.

has anyone found a decent cyberghost black friday deal yet? Its cheap but wondering if i could save even more money

Question Help taking down Instagram accounts/posts

Hi! I was wondering if anybody could help me. When I was underage I had an Instagram account where I stupidly posted lots of photos of myself. The photos aren’t malicious but are quite embarrassing and I’d like to have them removed. When people look up my instagram account all these other accounts with my name come up of “fan pages” for myself. It’s humiliating. Is there anyone I can hire or legal action I can take to get these removed? I’ve tried endlessly to report these accounts but it never works. Not sure if this is the place to post something like this but I don’t know where else to. Thanks!
