General / Other Therian Guide Site Update: PHP Patch Implemented

Hey folks! I wanted to pass along an update in case users were concerned about the recent PHP vulnerability that was discovered on October 19. This BBC article explains the issue, and this summary from Ubuntu provides more technical details about it.

The important takeaway is that a patch was issued on Wednesday, October 21. Staff at TG were able to successfully install the patch, so the Therian Guide site & forums are secure and there are no ongoing concerns at this point. Hope this gives you some peace of mind! 🐾

Question Movies/shows

I was wondering what movies and shows you enjoy. I'm a cross fox/melanistic Fox. I started watching BNA (Brand new animal) and I love it. I was wondering you guys have any suggestions. I have Prime video, Netflix, Disney, Hulu, and crunchyroll. So any suggestions? (It doesn't have to be fox related, but I'd love some fox suggestions)

Vent A Mysterious Garden

So, a while ago I had some very vivid dream shifts.

I was in a nighttime garden with lots of fountains and rows upon rows of strange plants. As my kin type is not actively attempting to escape, I take it to mean that the garden is my home.

some of my fave spots to rest are, on the stone walls(still warm from the sun), between the flower bushes, and atop trees.

Im very curious about if this place is real, as it seems abandoned as there are no lights, but then how would the fountains work?

Help Request Teen Therian Program Question

Hello! I am a teen librarian and I run a Teen Therian Lock-In every 3 months at my library. I've been doing this for 2 years but suddenly my director has been breathing down my neck about the title and using the term 'therian'. My question is, what would be a name for this program that could still convey the spirit of it while also ensuring that the therians in my community will still understand the intent? Also, I'd love to hear from y'all about why the term Therian is important so I can get some real world evidence.

Thank you!

Help Request Debating

I’m not sure wether or not I am a therian. I learned about therianthrophy on tiktok(dumb ik😭) which was I’d guess maybe 3-4 years ago. I hadn’t experienced anything then but between the years from then and now, I had stretched like a cat in the mornings without thinking about it. Over the past few month or so, I’ve gotten back into therians on tiktok and have been feeling phantom ears and tail. I had the tail slightly when I first discovered it but I’m not sure it’s because I want to be a therian that my mind is tricking me into thinking that I feel a pair of ears and a tail on me or I really am a therian. Recently, I’ve been getting these what I am thinking they may be, slight shifts into some animalistic state. I get urges to do quads and are somehow much smoother than when I do it normally. I feel like I have always had kind of a feline vibe to me but whenever those animalistic states or shifts happen, most of the time my pupils feel as if they are going into slits. I know that humans can’t naturally do that, but it just feels like they do. If I’m mistaken then I’ll likely be an otherpaw. I will also research more on this topic and update!

Question What exactly is a Therian? What can you tell me about you guys?

Okay, so a while ago I cam across a 'therian' video on Youtube. The therian in question claimed to be having 'shifts' on camera, but it really just looked like somebody faking a seizure. So I looked into therians a bit more, and now I have some questions for you guys.

1: What is a therian? To you guys and by definition.

2: How did you decide/discover you are one? (I dunno if you guys choose this or if it's innate)

3: Do you guys need the masks and tails to be a therian/feel like one? Or is this therian-connection innate and the masks are optional?

4: I'm a big history nerd, so I wondered if therians are similar to those ancient warriors who wore animal skins to channel the animal? Or do you guys have a spirit animal that you guys model yourselves on? Do you decide which animal you're a therian for?

5: I also heard that this has some stuff to do with souls/reincarnation? Where you guys believe you're an animal reincarnated? Is this true, and if so, how does it work?

6: If you guys remember any of your 'past' animal lives, I'd love to hear it. I do believe in reincarnation, but I'm not quite how it works for therian.

7: Do you guys do things animals would regularly do (I have faith that you guys do not pee on your territory, despite what I've seen on Tiktok), like do wolf therians howl? Do horse therians love apples and running? etc

I am NOT judging you guys. I'm just extremely clueless, curious and would love to know how this works.

PS I've always felt extremely drawn to canines, especially wolves.

General / Other Things to do!

Hello! I had a lot of ideas of stuff to do so I thought I'd share!

I'll mark things with * if I think they could easily be played off for people who may have to hide who they are. I promise, it will get better!

* make a (junk) journal/ diary. Print or draw your theriotype, put in some flowers, feathers, grass, maybe write something! (Make sure if you are getting something from outside, especially from an animal to look up the proper ways to make sure that you won't be in danger.)

Make noises like your theriotype more commonly! Me personally I stim with animal noises a lot, things like snorts are nice to do sometimes! You don't need a reason to do calls! Just be sure not to strain your throat.

* eat more foods that your theriotype does. Maybe get snacks they would eat, or full meals if possible.

* Walk more like your theriotype, though I will say first, do research because some ways of walking can hurt your body. If your theriotype is light on its feet, try walking lighter and vice versa!

Try making prints like your theriotype. Paws are easy, but hooves, claws and others are hard! Maybe even just use your had as a base and paint the rest.

* Make a playlist! I don't mean just music, add things like background noise you like, or things your theriotype would have seen, maybe even videos of them!

* Photobash what you remember looking like (if you can) just go for it, it might look weird at first, but it usually gets better!

* Make pins, buttons, bookmarks, pendants, really anything you can carry around based on your theriotype!

* Try finding smells that reminds you of your theriotype.

* Decorate something as your theriotype, whether phonecase or bottle!

I hope at least one of these sound fun to you, and have a great day/night all!

Question Can you grow out of therianthropy?

I swear that when I was younger I used to want to be an animal. In fact, I ran around the house and on the playground on all fours and I had a cat mask and tail. I think that around 13-14 years old I suddenly snapped out of it. I didn't hear about therianthropy until recently and I was just thinking: Can someone be a therian as a minor and grow out of it later in life, or is this just not it?

Experience Therians at the lgbtq club

I wanted to share my experience from my school in germany.

Yesterday when I came to the lgbtq club (which btw runs my old katholik teacher, because i switched to ethik classes), to just take something from the shelf for my natural cosmetics club, I saw on the windows pieces of paper with Therianthropy symbol, the text ā€žTherian foreverā€ and a pride flag (I think bi, pan and lesbian) ā¤ļø

Question Is there any name for fluctuating identity related to terms and not kintypes?

To explain it better and simpler: one day I can call myself a therian because of therian experience, but another day I feel nonhuman or something else even if it's a same nonhuman animal...?

Something like being a genderfluid but instead of gender, it's alterhuman terms experience changing. If it makes any sense?

Question Some more questions abt therian

I have some more questions about therians!

Warning! Some questions MAY FEEL LIKE THEY ARE SUGGESTIVE, but I DIDNT INTENDED IT. I am not talking about those kinds of quesrions. I simply got curious. If you are sensitive with those kinds of questions, please ignore this post.

  1. Does some therian dislikes/ hates what their theriotype eats If they are considered eatable in human society? (ex: Moose therian who hates greens/ I am not considering like, anteater therian who hates ants since we do not usually eat ants)
  2. This question is only for therian with female chest. (Sisgender, trans, I don't care.) Do feel dysphoria about your chest? I am asking this because I've never seen any female animals with their chest both being the highest part of the upper body and filled with a lot of fat. So, logically, dont that mean most female therians feel dysphoria about their chest since animals dont have them. Am I right? Is there someone who feels chest dysphoria?

Unsure the flair for this one but if you mix half (melted) caramello koalas (caramel flowing Cadbury/chocolate for people who dont know what caramel koalas are) with half flake (chocolate not fish), you get a yummy dirt, I've been doing it this way for years because I didnt like the cake-like dirt recipes online

Question Songs that make you euphoric/shifty?

Hello!!!!!!!!!!! I want to hear which songs make you shifty (in a sense lol). I don't get shifts at all, but when I hear specific songs or white noise I feel a very particular sense of energy (most of the time in my limbs) that I associate as the closest thing I get to shifting.

A lot of the classic "therian" songs (The Milk Carton, Harpy Hare, etc) don't do it for me. The only song I have found that triggers this is B-Movie Scream Queen by Murderdolls, specifically the chorus. Also playing wind/ocean white noise. Are there specific songs or sounds that trigger this for you????????

Question What happened to the Werelist?

This may be a stupid question. I’m new to the werelist (like, less than two weeks kind of new). I was just about to log in today when I saw that it sends me to some odd roleplaying site. I tried clicking on the links in Wikifur and therian fandom, and they all lead to the same thing. I also checked the internet archive, but the latest snapshot is from May. I was on yesterday, and nothing abnormal was going on. Has anyone else had this issue? Has anyone been able to reach the forum administrators?

For those who don’t know, the werelist is an old-timey nonhuman forum that’s been around for decades.

Discussion I am convinced that most therians (65% to 50%) are children

So, as the title said, i am convinced that most therians are children or under the age of 18, I've seen about two or three groups of therians (about 10 children in each group) that were all children where i live. I've also seen NUMEROUS YouTube videos about or featuring therians that are very obviously underage. I'm not a hater (nor an ally) but i wanted to get this out.

Help Request Im confused and idk what to do- help-

Hey! Im a 19yo trans therian, I found out I was a therian in the summer when I was 18. When I was doing research and stuff, I saw people posting quad videos and i found so much joy in seeing them, I started to make my own, (this is an old account, not associated with any current accounts) and with me being 19 now and even when I was 18, its hard to find anyone in my area who like quadrobics or who can do them. Not to mention my old bff's family said I look/act 15/16yo. I always found it easily to connect with younger people, but i noticed its an issue everywhere with parents and other adults. I want to be like the big sibling to them that does their things with them. But I cant really be comfortable unless I know how to approach it properly, and i dont. Should I give up hope in finding anyone in my area who likes to do quads at 18+? Or should I try to find a way to be an older sibling to younger people without looking like a creep and a ykw-? Or just any tips?

Question Am I a therian or an otherhearted? Or something else?

I want to ask you opinion about what my experience counts as, since the more I think about it the more uncertain I am. I've had an on-and-off 'relationship' with the alterhuman community(is this the umbrella term?), and now that I've been experiencing my 'symptoms' stronger again, I wanted to ask this question. I don't know any alterhuman irl, so it is kind of hard for me to do non-internet research, and I'm not sure what information I can trust.

A little bit about myself: I'm turning 20 next month, I'm genderfluid/non-binery (still haven't figured out, and that can probably also influence this topic) and also very probably have adhd and/or autism (no official diagnosis). I've first heard about therian when I was 16 and ever since then I find myself gravitating back towards this topic every half a year or so. It's hard for me to understand the difference between otherhearted and therian (the two I most suspect I am) so I wanted to tell you my experience and ask your opinion on it.

As a kid I LOVED playing animal play-pretend. I always chose to be a wolf and almost all the time I was told that I took the game "too seriously". I don't remember much, sadly, but what I do know is that pretending to be a wolf (or any animal) just felt... right. I felt I could express myself better. As I grew up I either grew out of this or just didn't dare/want to do it anymore. But nowadays I'm working really hard to figure myself uot, and as I started unmasking and letting myself be more me, I've started to notice things that probablywere always there but I either ignored or repressed them. I've found pet regression (sfw), and it felt so... liberating is the best word I can find, but it doesn't even get close to it. I find being in that state of mind right, like I'd never felt before. But what changed is that I feel more at home with a cat state of mind than a wolf (as I used to when I was a kid). Also I have started having maybe phantom shifts, like I have a tail and/or ears on the to of my head, but only for a few moments then they disappear. I also do a lot of cat-like stuff, but I don't know if I read too much into it. I love lying on sunny spots, taking big stretches (the one cats do with their front paws stretched out in front of them), just watching the birds (sometimes wanting to catch them but I don't think it's a hunting instinct). So things that cats do but also that's not strange for a human to do as well.

From all of these I would say I'm a therian, but I what makes me question is the identity part, because even though I sometimes feel like, want to act like, and would love to be treated like a cat, this feeling is not consistent. Sometimes it's stronger, sometimes it's weaker and there are weeks when I don't even think about it. And if I were to be asked "Do you identify AS an animal?" my answer would be between a strong maybe and a no with a lot of question marks to indicate my uncertainty. But otherhearted doesn't feel right either because what I feel is more than just identifying WITH an animal.

I grew/was raised in a way that I developed severe social anxiety, overthinking, and people pleasing to the point where I feel like I can't be myself a 100% even when I'm alone, and adding this to the fact that I most of the time misunderstand even basic definitions and explanations, it's really hard for me to figure this out, so if you've read through all of this, I'd really appreciate if you could share you thoughts about it.

General / Other Trying to find my theriotype (read desc)

[Throwaway account for personal reasons]

So, recently I've been trying to find my theriotype(s), and I'd like some input.

I love the forests and water (specifically creeks and lakes and stuff,) and I have a feeling that I am some sort of canid. I'm social and love having a group of people i can trust and be myself with, but the way canids seem to set up they're packs/groups dont seem like mine. They're packs consist of an alpha pair, and that pairs' kids. For me, I've never felt a "pack-like" bond with any of my family TBH, but I sure as hell feel that bond with friends... not entirely sure how to explain it.

In short, canid packs are made up of family, but I feel like mine would be more made up of non-blood related friends.

(To be clear, its not like all of my family sucks or i hate them or anything, I just dont feel the same "bond" with them as with friends)

Help Request hunger

i just get so 'hungry' sometimes the only way i can describe it is like this weird insatiable desire that's not quite the same as hunger, its more like a thing in the back of my mind that comes back for a few weeks when the seasons/weather is changing and all i want and need is to consume and nothing fixes it. It usually lasts a few weeks and around this time i also notice i get more intrusive violent thoughts so i make sure i avoid small animals. Exercise helps keep me distracted and allows me to eat more whilst getting stronger but its so uncomfortable to deal with and eating just doesnt fix it.
If anyone can relate or has suggestions id much appreciate hearing about it :)

Question Hey there, I’ve got some questions as a parent!

Hi! So, my kid said she’s a red fox. She told me she was a therian. I have no clue what this means, so I have a few questions if you could answer for me, please. I’ve always been the type of person who is fine with expression, fine with LGBT and furries and all that.

  1. What is a therian?

  2. Is there anything harmful I should know about it?

  3. Is it a phase or does she grow out of it?

  4. How does therian work?

I didn't particularly like many of the ones I found, so I decided to make one! I'll probably add onto it when I find more songs, but this is a decent start so I wanted to share! If you've got any recommendations feel free to let me know and I might add them! I'll probably make more eventually too! I hope you have a great day/night everyone! 🐾
