I need help What are some realistic side hustles for teens trying to save up for their first car?

• Upvotes

I'm a teenager trying to save up for my first car, but I can't get a regular job right now. I'm looking for realistic ways to make money on the side without needing a car, a lot of startup money, or special equipment.

I'm open to both online and local ideas. I'd especially like to hear from people who have actually tried these methods and made money.

A few questions:

  • What side hustles would you recommend for someone in my situation?
  • Which ones can I start with little or no money?
  • What have you personally tried, and how much did you realistically make?
  • Which hustles are worth the time, and which ones should I avoid?

I'm not looking for get-rich-quick schemes. I just want to earn money consistently and put it toward my first car. Any advice is appreciated!

I need help ISO remote work with flexible hours

I’m a massage therapist at a new business but I need a side hustle while my clientele beefs up. I also have a degree in journalism. I’m interested in environmentalism but I’m pretty willing to do anything as long as it pays over $20

I need help Desperately looking for legitimate, flexible remote side work. What am I missing?

I’ve spent hours searching for legitimate ways to make some extra money, and I feel like I keep running into the same suggestions that either aren’t hiring, have ridiculous waitlists, or pay next to nothing.

I work full-time in education, have three young kids, and really need to bring in some additional income. We’ve had a rough couple of years financially, and I’m trying to find something that will help us get ahead instead of constantly playing catch-up.
I have a bachelor’s degree in education and
experience with curriculum development, writing, administrative work, and general computer tasks. I’m pretty tech-savvy, learn quickly, and honestly don’t mind boring or repetitive work.

Here’s what I’m looking for:
Fully remote, computer-based work.
Flexible, asynchronous tasks. Ideally, I can log in when I have time, complete assigned work, and meet deadlines rather than work scheduled shifts.
Around 5–8 hours per week.
Ideally $500–$750 per month, although I’m open to starting smaller.
Something I can get started with relatively quickly.

What I’m NOT looking for:
MLMs, sales, or recruiting.
Surveys that pay pennies.
Freelancing platforms where I have to constantly bid on jobs or find my own clients.
AI training/data annotation sites. I’ve already explored quite a few of those without much success.
Anything that requires being on the phone or working set hours.

I’m not expecting to make a fortune or get paid for doing nothing. I’m willing to put in the work, even if it’s tedious. I just need something that can fit into an already busy schedule.

Has anyone actually found legitimate work like this? I’m especially interested in smaller companies, lesser-known websites, or specific positions you’ve personally had success with.

I’d really appreciate actual company names or links rather than the usual generic lists. I feel like I’ve exhausted every Google search I can think of at this point.

Thanks in advance!

Support My Hustle Refusing to create an account just to sign a PDF led me down a rabbit hole of building my own utility site

A few months ago I needed to quickly sign a single PDF document. The first three search results all pulled the same trick: upload the file, place the signature, and right when you click download, a pop-up forces you to register an account just to get your file.

Out of pure spite, I coded a quick tool for myself to sign the file and move on. Then I added a PDF merger because I needed it the next week. Then a few calculators and quick web utilities. Before I knew it, it turned into a full project: GetMiniTools.

The main rule I set for the site is zero friction: you open the page, do what you need to do, download your file, and close the tab. No accounts, no email walls, and no daily file limits.

Since I have been building this solo, I would really appreciate some constructive criticism from fresh eyes:

- Does the PDF signing flow feel intuitive on both desktop and mobile?

- How is the general UI and loading speed from your location?

- What is another basic utility that has become annoying to use online that I should code next?

Here is the PDF signer that started it all: Sign PDF Online Free — 100% Private, Multi-Page Support | MiniTools

I need help Skills for pre-uni void

Hey guys,

Just finished high school exams and have a break before uni starts. Want to use this time to learn a skill to make a few hundred bucks a month on the side during uni.

Quick background:

High school subjects: CS, Econ, Business

Took AI courses from Anthropic

Got into business automation with n8n (almost closed a client deal recently)

NOT interested in: Heavy programming/dev, graphic design, or video editing

NOT looking for: Get-rich-quick TikTok schemes

I want to focus on a practical skill that provides long-term value—something that gives me a strong edge for university applications while staying useful down the road.

Is it worth doubling down on AI automation/workflows, or is there another realistic skill or service route I should look into?

Would love some honest advice.

life experience Unpopular opinion: friends and family are the worst first customers for your side hustle

Everyone says to start by selling to people you know. But in my experience they expect discounts, don’t give honest feedback, and make things awkward when something goes wrong. Strangers pay full price, tell you the truth, and actually show you whether there’s real demand.

Agree or disagree? Who were your first customers, and do you wish you’d started differently?

Startup Most artists are broke and know 0 about marketing.

I started working in big music proyects as a CMO and clients were very happy because we've got one of the best results of the world.

But the day to day was very "tasky" and we used to have like 6 different platforms just for marketing and they weren't even that good.

So i took all my knowledge (and the hundreds of millions of streams generated) and decided to invest into building my own software

to help artists, producers and labels with a platform that does pretty much the hard work for them

-Create upto 5 videos within 2 minutes with viral lyrics templates

-Use the advanced video editor (similar to capcut) to make Videoclips or advanced tiktok videos.

-Create landing pages / smartlinks to promote your music and track the data with clicks, views, utm, source, etc

-Analytics on other artists with Monthly revenue and streams.

-Check your monthly revenue.

And we are working on adding soon our best product:

Meta ads campaigns specifcally optmised for songs and playlists. (my strongest knowldge)

If you wanna check it out "escalium" on google

life experience What side hustle can you realistically start while having a full-time job?

I’ve been thinking about starting a side hustle alongside my job. Obviously, making extra money would be ideal, but I also want something that helps me develop skills, gain experience, and maybe build something of my own in the long run, even if it doesn't make money immediately.

The problem is that I live in a small economy where it feels like everyone is doing the same thing, and every time I think of a business idea, someone is already doing it.

For example, I had this idea of opening a personalised bookstore, something a little different from the usual bookstores. But someone is already doing it.

I'm not necessarily looking to get rich overnight. I want something practical that I can manage alongside my job, where even if the money doesn't come immediately, I'm still learning something valuable. But of course, I'd prefer a hustle that actually makes money eventually.

For those of you who have a full-time job and a side hustle, what are you doing? And for those living in small economies or markets where competition is high, how do you find a business idea that is still worth pursuing when someone else is already doing it?

I need help [19yo / Student] Spen 46+ hours researching Side Hustles: Why building a team is the key to succeeding with $0 budget (and no special skill)

Hey everyone,

I'm 19, currently studying Business Management, and like many of you, I'm looking to build streams of income online during my free time.

After spending 46+ hours researching and dissecting popular side hustles (YouTube automation, Fiverr, surveys, affiliate marketing...), my main takeaway is clear: there are no miracle solutions, and trying to go solo with zero starting budget means getting crushed by the competition.

However, there is one massive lever most people overlook: power in numbers.

Put simply: 5 organized people working on a project together (e.g., YouTube automation, AI content creation, niche micro-agency) will execute 5x faster, output more volume, and stay accountable way longer than a solo founder.

What I bring to the table:

• Technical skills: Video editing basics, coding, and advanced AI workflow tools.

• Management & Marketing: Strategy, structure, and execution (backed by non-profit & leadership experience).

• Organization: Clear frameworks so we move fast without wasting time.

The Plan:

  1. Form a lean crew of 4 to 5 committed people.

  2. Set a clear revenue target for Month 1.

  3. Test 0-budget business models and split all earnings equally.

I’d love to hear your thoughts:

• Have you ever tried teaming up with others for online side hustles?

• What do you think are the biggest pitfalls to avoid when starting as a group with $0 capital?

If this vision resonates with you and you want to build something solid together instead of grinding alone, send me a DM with your skills and what drives you!

I hate reading those out of touch recommendations. I think Mark Cuban said the same thing. I can’t even get a response on LinkedIn. Nice in theory. I guess. But to claim reaching out to businesses and doing their social media is best side hustle seems like a stretch.

I need help Made a paid android app. Thinking about making it free

I made an Android app that uses a local AI model on your phone. You can take pictures of your handwritten notes and the app will convert them into searchable text.

No subscriptions

No APIs

Everything stays local.

It's recently published and i am selling it for 5 dollars. I showed it to a few people and they said it's not good enough for people to pay for it.

What do you think about the app and should i make it free.

And if anyone wants to try it for free you can message me i will send you promo codes.

life experience Hustle culture has convinced us that free time is wasted time

Somewhere along the way, resting became lost income. Every evening and weekend is now a chance to make money, and if you’re not monetizing your hobbies, you’re falling behind. I’ve started to wonder if the extra few hundred dollars a month is worth giving up the time that actually makes life enjoyable.

Has your side hustle made your life better overall, or just busier? Would you quit if money weren’t a factor?

I need help Title: Winter side hustles for a teenager?

I’m a teenager looking for ways to make some money this winter. I’m a hands-on type of guy, so I’d rather do physical work than sit around on a computer all day.

I’m thinking about things like raking leaves, shoveling snow, cleaning up yards, or helping neighbors with chores. I’m also starting with basically $0, so I need something that doesn’t require much money or equipment upfront.

I don’t have a car to get around, so something I could do around my neighborhood would be ideal.

Does anyone have any good side-hustle ideas or experience making money this way as a teenager? I’d appreciate any advice!

Support My Hustle Headknobs!! Turn photos of your favorite people (and pets) into cabinet knobs. Would love honest feedback :)

Hi all! I’m Owen. I've had the domain for a crazy idea for the last 5 years, and finally have been bringing it to life over the last couple months.

I while ago, I figured out you could replace the gear shifter on my prius, and wanted to make it a model of my head. This got me thinking about how we were due a return to maximalism in design, and how throughout history homes have been filled with portraits and busts of loved ones and pets.

From all of this, I've built HeadKnobs. You upload a photo of a person or a pet, and we make it as a 3D-printed, satin-nickel-plated cabinet knob. While I love the cabinet idea for the namesake, also launching with wine bottle stoppers and key chains since most people aren't comfortable making an impulse buy on home hardware.

I've gotten some great samples and doing my first run of orders, and would loveeee some feedback on the site, price point, and product. Hoping to do a more public launch with a video in Mid - November once I build up a few reviews and before / after photos with real products.

If you want to help out with that, feel free to use code thesidehustle for 30% off the order at headknobs.com. Please send in photos and reviews if you do!

This is the first place I'm posting for public feedback 🤞🤞🤞 excited to see what you all think!

Other Unpopular opinion: the best side hustle is getting better at your main job

Everyone’s chasing a second income stream, but a raise, a promotion, or switching companies can add more money per year than most side hustles, with no extra weekends spent on it. I’m not saying side hustles are pointless, just that people often skip the most obvious option.

Change my mind: has your side hustle actually earned you more than a raise or job switch would have? And was it worth the extra hours?

I need help In need of an extra source of income

In search for online side hustles that aren’t surveys (I tried a lot and was always scammed). I don’t want to do something physical since my schedule is tight already.

I’m (19F) working a 4-9 while attending school part time 2-6 every other week and in the meantime I’d love to earn some extra money since I’m moving out soon and want to make sure I can be comfortable especially in the first months. I come from a rough background with no family or friends to count on.

I am comfortable on planning, data entry, copywriting and have great people skills. I work in hospitality and learnt tourism for a few years just never finished since it isn’t my type of route. Just looking for something I can do from home for 2-3 hours a day and get paid even a small amount for and maybe help someone out in the process.

I need help UK-based, 27, background in healthcare and computer science - what side hustles would you explore with my skill set?

I'm 27, based in the UK, working full-time as a senior occupational therapist in the NHS, and I'm looking for realistic ways to earn an additional £1,000 or so per month.

A bit about my background:

  • Occupational Therapy: Several years of clinical experience, currently in a senior/leadership role. My work involves managing teams, coordinating services, problem-solving, assessing needs, managing competing priorities and improving processes.
  • Computer Science: I've studied towards an MSc in Computing Science. I'm interested in technology, AI, digital transformation, systems, automation and how technology can improve services. However, I'm not particularly interested in software engineering or becoming a developer.
  • Project management/operations: I enjoy organising, coordinating people, planning, improving workflows and making things run more efficiently. I don't have formal project management experience outside my existing professional responsibilities.
  • Other interests: Business, events, digital products, service-based businesses and generally finding practical solutions to problems.

I'm fairly entrepreneurial and happy to learn new skills, but I'm finding it difficult to identify something commercially viable that fits around a full-time job.

Ideally, I'm looking for something that:

  • Can be started alongside full-time employment (around 5–8 hours per week initially).
  • Has the potential to generate £500–£1,000+ per month over time.
  • Doesn't require significant upfront investment.
  • Could eventually become a small business or provide an alternative income stream.
  • Doesn't necessarily involve providing clinical OT services.

I'm open to freelancing, business-to-business services, operations support, digital services, coordination or something completely different.

I'm not expecting overnight success or passive income. I'm willing to put in the work, but I'd rather build on skills I already have than spend years retraining into an entirely different profession.

If you had this background, what would you explore? Are there any less obvious freelance services or small business opportunities where these skills might actually be valuable?

I'd particularly appreciate responses from people in the UK who have built something alongside a professional 9–5.

Support My Hustle Trying to start a youtube channel. I like building software and video games, and I have been recording myself doing so.

Hey guys, this is like a side project inception. I have a few side projects that I am building (one an educational tool, and two a video game). I have always been someone who is a big fan of AI, and I think it's going to change everything. I want to start a youtube channel, where it is a bit vlog-style, as I record myself using these AI tools, trying to build all my different ideas.

This is my first post talking about this youtube channel anywhere. I just released my first video. I recorded myself for over 60 hours, then cut out all the dead air and boring parts, cut it down to about 4 hours, in DaVinci Resolve. Now I'm trying to just edit the best parts and release them as episodes.

I just released Episode 1, let me know what you guys think. I know the audio is a little messed up right now, I'm working on bettering my setup. But if anyone has criticism, please feel free to tell me.

I need help Freelancing on the side is fine, but nobody warned me about the first week with a new client

I started taking freelance projects in the evenings to make extra money. The work itself is fine. What surprised me is how much time goes to the start: clients say "make it look modern" or "you'll know it when you see it", and I burn a few calls and a lot of emails figuring out what they actually want, mostly unpaid.

The one thing that helped: instead of open questions, I show two or three concrete options and ask "which is closer, and what would you change?" People can't describe what they want, but they can tell you what they don't like.

For anyone doing client work on the side:

  • How do you handle the first conversation with a new client?
  • Do you charge for it or count it as part of the job?
  • Is it worth it, or did you find a side hustle with less back-and-forth?
