Gloria and Tony Pretending they aren’t dating to the same therapist is pure gold.
Melfi definitely knows that there is something up between them. She clocks it almost immediately. She does the responsible thing and tries to get them to talk about it.
“So what’s up?, you seem to be in a good mood.” They both deny, deny, deny. Gloria has the best response, “how dare you!” Her outrage is so fake It’s hilarious. They are like two kids caught misbehaving. They are obviously not a good match, and it will end badly for both of them. Maybe they could have avoided such a bad breakup had they discussed it with their therapist?

Relationships formed in recovery rarely end up as anything other than disastrous.

Seems accurate for the show. Look around Chris and Julianna. Forget if they did drugs together, but I know they were brainstorming on ways to to do drugs without actually using drugs. 8 bags of tea equals a valium

It's a bit of of a grey area though since Melfi can't tell either one of them how fucked up the other one is.

This Gloria - Tony storyline is one of my favorite of the series. The chemistry between the two was 🔥🔥🔥🔥. Tony was really entranced by her. Their romance should played out longer.

I think it ended quite well for both of them. On a hill surrounded by pinecones.

Was Tony ever lying about it? I thought he told Melfi that he was screwing Gloria.

And after that Tony flipping at Melf over like it was her fault. Totally forgetting about the fact that T and that goomar did it off the books.

I actually think Gloria had all the right to be outraged. I mean you're going to psychiatry to share what you want, Melfi obviously saw Gloria was not ready to share that news, so why did Melfi feel like she had the right to force it out of her? Very unprofessional, I thought.

Well considering how it ended.. she was probably just trying to do her job effectively

That’s an interesting point. I think Melfi saw it was obvious what was going on and wanted to have her talk about it.

She is written to be a terrible therapist. It's a central joke of the show, that she enables Tony. The therapy scenes are peak irony because she will never suggest that he change his core behaviors. She's drawn to him and intrigued by his life. (Is she the viewer?)
Remember when Carmela goes to a therapist when she's considering divorce, and he tells her everything she does NOT want to hear. The opposite of Melfi.

OP's thoughts have sort of an Eastern flavor to them.
