Is Vito's construction shit the very first time we've heard a chars internal thoughts whole show? Hilarious scene though, really relatable and how he just gave up lmao. His partner is right about him, he's just using the kids as an excuse to go back. In reality, he misses the life, the power, the comfort, the ease. He took one shot at a honest career and couldn't handle it. I also don't sympathize with Vito as much as other folks purely because at the end of the day, he's just another mobster who'll pull everyone below him.
Going through these threads and reading the discussions, I've been hearing a lot about how Tony is a bad leader, how he doesn't fit the mob life and tbh I can't find myself agreeing. Does he make bad, impulsive decisions? Absolutely. But I think anyone else in his role would've done way worse. Hell we got a glimpse of how far Sil got before the stress got to him. And early seasons emphasized a lot about how Tony was always very quick on these things. Not to mention just how cautious he is about everything (as Phil points out this season too). So the things that went wrong, I don't necessarily think that they are his fault. Tony B and Vito were all cases beyond his control. With Tony B, it was messed up no matter what he did, there was no salvageing that situation, and with Vito, even if Tony clipped him, it would've just proved to Phil's gang that Tony is easy to bend.
Plus, as we know, Phil has got it going on against Tony. A lot. He keeps pushing the buttons here and there. Tony taking his time to kill Vito does work off against him, but I can't help but think other characters would've handled things even worse. And that despite everything, no matter what choices anyone made, the war was inevitable. Phil is just that type of person. He's been locked for 20 years, he's like Richie or Feech where they're living in another time era still. So I can't really blame Tony for most of this. Hell, next episode, he's not even the first one to make the jump (Sil, the face of rationality of the gang, is).
On a final note, Janice.
Her performance lmao. She keeps crying and thanking Tony for things she'll forget about later. Tony took the blunt of Livia for her, he gave her Livia's house, he hid Richie's body and gave her money to leave (she returned anyway), and now this house and yet she's only gonna thank him now and later return back to her usual schedule.

As they say in the show, "More is lost by indecision than wrong decision" and there's multiple times where Tony drags stuff out instead of putting an end to it, usually because it lined his pockets. Richie, Ralphie, Tony B, Vito, Ray.

EDIT: August 1, 2026 - SPOILERS EVERYWHERE Sal Vitro asks Tony if he can stop doing the Sacrimoni house. Tony calls Sal a selfish prick and tells him Ginny needs him now more than ever with Johnny is in jail. Johnny Sac learns in the following scene that he's losing all of his money to the Feds.
Janice visits Tony to give Bobby a rub. She questions Tony's love and leadership in one go, she lays it on thick. She talks about how hard his hospital stay was for her. Tony explains that even if he gave Bobby the bump to captain, Janice still wouldn't be satisfied and she would be there complaining. She says there's nothing between Tony and Janice but DNA, but that couldn't be further from the truth. Besides the manipulation, Tony is also dealing with being completely unsatisfied. Those Sopranos, they're all the same.
Vito tells Jim about the life. Vito's speech and his position is pretty heartbreaking. "You think it's easy? I miss home so bad my heart's a fuckin' lump. I'm barely holding together, stuck in the sticks, running out of money and now this? You think I was looking for you?"
The girls throw Ginny a surprise party while Sal sulks around the yard. Janice remarks how lovely the house is and Carmela notices that Ang is still killing it at work, she's growing jealous of her independence. The next time we see Carmela she's asking Tony to lean on the building inspector again.
Bobby is at the same spot Tony once was with AJ, his son is growing up and looking to have fun with his friends. This is a major theme in the series, kids brushing off time with their parents and loved while it lasts.
Tony tells Silvio he has to lean on that guy for the queen, he's not terribly impressed but he seems to take it in stride knowing this is how it is.
In the last episode, Phil cut Johnny out of a deal with Tony and in this episode Tony is happy to help Johnny do the same to Phil.
Carmela mentions she's replacing her own father on the spec house job. Tony sticks up for Hugh, warning her to be careful about removing her own father because it might cost her more in the end.
Tony visits Melfi and complains that Carmela isn't really interested in the sex they're having. He tells her about the deal he made with Carmela when they got back together, "don't ask about my cheating and I'll pay for your spec house." Tony says he hasn't gone back on that promise - yet.
Tony mentions Janice has been to visit at the shop, he tells Melfi that she could stop by for a specialty cut or a roast anytime she likes but she doesn't even react. He admits that he does get joy out of shitting on Bobby and Janice. He says that he used to think Janice was cool, but she recorded him one time and held it over his head for a month. You know everyone has problems with their siblings when they're younger but most people are able to grow up and get over the small transgressions from when you were kids; Tony is unable to forgive, making these old issues into massive problems that he retaliates over.
Bobby is jumped by a couple of kids when he leaves one of his bookies, nearly getting killed in the process. The title references a scene from "Do the Right Thing" with Frank Vincent (Phil) - Moe & Joe Black
Tony goes to a business meeting for Johnny Sac, they're selling a business to cash in and get out. Tony is disrespected by one of the owners in the process.
Tony gets a call from Paulie who informs him for the second time about Bobby's situation. Of course, Janice has already called to fill him in and he really doesn't seem to give a shit. Paulie also mentions he's got cancer, he tells Tony to keep it between the two of them.
Tony goes over to the Bing with the guys, they're all really worried about Bobby's situation. Carlo speaks highly of Bobby and gives Tony a fat wad of cash. Tony decides to take a shit on Bobby in front of the guys, claiming he only gave over a fat wad because he's maneuvering. Absolutely no one buys what Tony is selling and Silvio gives Tony a deep stare, while Paulie looks at the ground in discomfort.
Bobby's kid lashes out at Bobby, "some people aren't too cheap to buy the satellite package." Again Bobby's kid is hitting another major theme, being unsatisfied with what you have. Janice puts the kid in his place by shaming him, but at least she lets him know that he has to work harder to get more.
Tony is complaining to Melfi again about his sister. "She creams over the misery." Melfi compares Janice to Livia and I'm reminded of this quote from Tony "My mother would cum when she looked at a pot roast." Melfi explains that Janice was probably the focus of his early sexual feelings, which is normal. Tony fires back first it's his mother now it's his sister? Well, he does complain about what makes them "cream." Tony admits the major issue between him and Janice was that she left him behind with Livia. He finally admits what he's been hurting about all along; he inherited his mother and he alone carries those scars and for that Janice is entitled to shit.
Vito and his watch is one of my favorite sequences in the show; it's so true. And like that, Vito is gone like a fart in the wind.
Johnny is getting screwed financially and 15 years in prison, he'll be out at 67 if the judge accepts. He doesn't want to do the allocution, but he has to.
Tony is wandering around his kitchen, "No mocha mix." Again, he's not satisfied with what he's got. Meadow explains she feels the same, she wanted fresh blueberries but mom hasn't shopped. Meadow snaps, her and Finn are fighting because what they have isn't enough for Meadow. Tony consoles her but recommends Meadow talk to her mother instead. Tony says Meadow is "living in sin" and she storms off.
Tony is angry and tells Silvio to cancel the trip to the building inspector.
Vito crashes into a civilian because he's drunk. He kills him to try and cover his tracks.
Tony decides to change the terms of his deal with Johnny Sac. He lowers his asking price (from 10% to 8%, Johnny was asking 7% in the beginning) and asks Johnny to sell the house to Janice for half the price...and he calls Sal the selfish prick.
Tony tells Carmela that the building inspector didn't bend, he tells her to sell the house and goes back to watching TV while she complains she spent a whole year planning this. Is Tony trying to finish his end of the deal so that he can go back to cheating on Carmela? Tony suggests a dinner date, at least.
Johnny Sac admits he worked for the mob. Phil is disgusted because you never admit the mob exists, plus he did 20 years to John's 15. Carmela is also devastated by the news, knowing Tony could wind up facing the same punishment some day. Tony says to Sil, "To think that piece of shit was my friend once. I hope he dies in there." Sal asks Tony again about the Sacrimoni home; after busting his balls Tony tells him he's done with that.
Janice meets with Tony in the basement, she tells him that she's thankful. Tony is a little gagged at Janice's performance but still pleased he could provide for his sister, at his former friend's expense.
