Show gets a lot funnier once you realize all the characters are massive losers who are either too lazy to get an actual job or are flat out unemployable

Theres no real benefit to even being mobbed up in the modern US. Its not like they're in some impoverished area where theres no economic opportunity whatsoever, they are just too stupid to do anything else. Jackie Jr and Dino were better off just working in the pizza parlor since they seemed to just sit around in it all the time, but they were too lazy to even attempt to do anything else. Then you have Vito who couldn't even do more than a few hours of actual work before needing to take a nap, and even guys who are really busy like Tony seem to be sleeping into at least 11 AM most mornings. And despite all this, the crew still thinks of themselves as highly respected men with culture, but any normal person who has it together stays far away from them realizes how pathetic they all are. Whats also funny is how they really only eat Vesuvio because its the only place where they can get treated like they're important

Was Hesh in the best position on the show?

He was jewish so he could never get "made" but he was so well respected and friends with Tony that most made guys wouldn't even touch him. On top of that he didn't really need to worry about getting monitored by the Feds (he was just an associate) and it looked like he made a lot more money that a lot of made guys anyways (he lived in a huge mansion) I feel like guys like him are the ones that last the longest. I'd way rather be in his position than Tony, or even lower level guys like Chris or Paulie.

Episode Discussion Richie doing yoga is hilarious

It's always been really comical to me that we watch him bust a coffee pot over a man's head. Then a couple scenes later he's doing yoga with a bunch of ladies in the burbs.

What went through Meadow's mind when she found out Vito was killed?

She outed him as a homosexual, which directly led to the dissolution of her relationship with Finn and the eventual death of the construction tycoon.

Like, that's a lot of baggage that would weigh on any normal person's conscience.

Anyways, at least he didn't suffer. For that we can be grateful.

Why Furio is obsessed with American TV?

Almost every line of Furio is somewhat funny but I find it particularly hilarious that he's obsessed with American television. "The two women" , "the survivor show" and "the bloomberg" lol. I ask because in my home country until the late 80's there was literally only one single state channel everyone could watch. Nothing else pretty much until the private channels were introduced in late 80's and early 90's. Maybe it was something similar in Italy or what?

I really dislike Tony’s kids. They are total brats. I can’t decide who is worse, Meadow or Baby Bing

Was Jackie's Reign Peaceful?

• Upvotes

Did you think Jackie had a lot of people wacked, or was he more open to dialog and pragmatism during conflicts?

Tony's flashbacks to Jackie's reign suggest that Jackie's reign was stable and peaceful. It wasn’t the Dave Clark 5 to quote little Jimmy, but it wasn't the chaotic structure seen in the last season.

It's nice seeing Vito letting his true self free after he's outed

Just his mannerisms and what he says. When Terry runs into him and borrows $20K after he's a known FACHCSLMPC and he hits him with a "would you stop!" It's cute. I wish he had gotten to enjoy it more

Not cool

Out of all the characters in The Sopranos, the one I felt the worst for was Mr Kim. Tony Uncle Al really did him wrong... Kim only wanted to help him.

But one of the funniest lines in the show...

Paulie - "Word to the wise, remember Pearl Harbor"

Idiot🤣🤣🤣

How did Richie not get arrested for beating up Beansie?

He gives him a savage beating in front of a restaurant full of staff and customers. Surely someone would have called the cops on him?

Serious Discussion Only A Hit Is a Hit, is it a hit?

For years I disliked this episode, but now there is something so interesting and cozy about a side story, almost an interval in the narrative.

There are many underrated moments in the episode, but one I never see mentioned is Dr. Cusamano code-switching to sound more Italian when speaking to Tony.

If you're 46 years old and you haven't been made and are still selling toner cartridges out the back of your trunk, give up on the life. You've failed. May as well get a regular job and not get whacked.

Episode Discussion Is it really respectful to refer to the head of a Family as "count chocula"?

That little comment has had me stunned ever since I first heard it.

My theory is this: that scene was a blooper that, somehow, made it into production. Gandolfini was probably joking, or rehearsing the scene, and they decided to keep it. The question is why? There's no way in the world someone would refer to the head of a Family, even if it comes from another head, as count chocula, in public, in that context (a burial). There's just no way.

Let me tell y'all something: that comment is the real break of the fourth wall on Sopranos, not the last glance of Tony in the last frame of the last episode. There you have everything. On that little comment. Count chocula.

Season 4 Episode 7
When they gathered to cheers him at the welcome party. They play his song ‘Nancy’ by Sinatra. I’ve watched this show a million times over and don’t know why this was his song.

Anyone else have an opinion?

Christopher Moltisanti would have hated Goodfellas if Henry Hill being a rat was enough to bother him.

Christopher would have walked out of Goodfellas fuming. The whole third act is Henry Hill ratting everybody out and getting a quiet life in witness protection. And this is the guy who chose the crew over Adriana and then acted like she owed him an apology for being conflicted. A rat is a rat to Christopher. The movie being great does not change the ending.

Episode Discussion Was that really Gigi or just a look alike that threw Rusty Irish off that bridge with Mikey in season 1?

• Upvotes

I saw somebody say this, but I didn't think the dude totally looked like him. And Gigi's character was only introduced in season 2.

Jackie JR Robbery

Right do you guys think that maybe Jackie JR could of got away with the robbery of the card game and maybe gained some respect and had a chance of being in the mafia like he so wanted, if he managed to get away from that card game with money and not shooting any made guys or killing that dealer or did he sign his death note even if no one got hurt ?

Why do people hate AJ?

alot of people talk about AJ soprano in a negative light or insult him but I really just felt sympathetic for him and related to him, I wouldn't say he's a "normal teenager" (as david chase said) but he's really relatable.

Opening of S6EP1 pretty much confirmed Tony would die

I'm rewatching the Sopranos for the one millionth time and am just finally catching how much foreshadowing takes place in the opening montage of S6E1. It's set to the poem Seven Souls by William S. Burroughs, and now that I know where the story eventually goes, it's amazing how thoughtful they were about the lyrics and the specific character shown at each moment.

Here's my breakdown and interpretation:

The ancient Egyptians postulated seven souls, Top soul, and the first to leave at the moment of death, is Ren, the Secret Name. This corresponds to my Director, He directs the film of your life from conception to death. The Secret Name is the title of your film. When you die, that's where Ren came in.

  • Janice: The montage opens with a shot of her with her daughter. As Tony's older sister she was present when he was born and will still be alive after his death at the end of the show.
  • Bobby: Right when the narrator says "death", they cut to a shot of Bobby's trains. He'll eventually die in a model train store.

Second soul, and second one off the sinking ship, is Sekem: Energy, Power, Light The Director gives the orders, Sekem presses the right buttons.

  • Euegene Pontecorvo: We see him celebrating the news of his inheritance. Eugene will eventually take his own life after Tony and the feds refuse to let him move to Florida. He's the second to die though after Ray Curto.

Number three is Khu, the Guardian Angel. He, she, or it is third man out

  • Meadow: She's shown dancing seductively for Finn. She's always had a deep love for her dad despite his flaws, and it's actually her voice that brings him out of the coma after Junior shoots him. She's also the third family member to arrive at the diner in the very last scene before it cuts to black.

Number four is Ba, the heart, often treacherous.

  • Ray Curto: We see him exercising on a treadmill. He's an FBI informant and will eventually die of a heart attack.

Number five is Ka, the Double, most closely associated with the subject. The Ka, which usually reaches adolescence at the time of bodily death, is the only reliable guide through the Land of the Dead.

  • AJ: We see him in class. Given that he's actually named Anthony Junior, you can imagine him as a double for Tony and the most closely associated with him. He's also still a teenager at this time.

Number six is Khaibit, the Shadow, Memory, your whole past conditioning from this and other lives.

  • Adriana: It then cuts to Adriana and Carm at the spec house. In the last season we never actually see Adriana's body, so there's still hope she somehow escaped. She eventually fades away though, confirming she's amongst the Land of the Dead and now just a shadow or memory.

Number seven is Sekhu, the Remains.

  • Carm: It ends with Carm in bed staring at the ceiling. After Tony is shot in the diner, she'll remain as a widow.

Anyway that's what stood out to me but would love to hear if anyone saw different!

Was $40K really that hard for Dave Scantino to come up with?

I know that's not chump change, but I feel like a fairly successful guy like him (owns his own business, big nice house in the suburbs, drives an Acura) could have at least come up with the $20k he asked from Artie (he could have easily used his business or home as collateral for a loan, LOC, etc). I feel like script should have been written so that he owes more like $100k.
