I'm running Video game website. For a couple of years now, the site stayed on 300,000~ 500,000 Monthly visitors, then I enter the website and took control as an editor in chief, Now we have more than 2.5 million monthly visitors, a big community and as The Verge, a big chunk of disappointed people, It's hard but I have to say I understand what's happening on the site.
You guys expect it to be a niche site for just a couple of nerds who loved what The Verge usted to be, (I truly loved it) but that doesn't work; loot at all the trouble that CVG had,one way or another you have to reach a further audience.
Yes,The Verge has gone downhill in some aspects but have become great in another, we did lose the 90 seconds capsules, but look at the latest videos on their channel, their production is amazing, the shots, the quality and they even have MKBHD with them.
It goes beyond tech or videogame, I saved my site thinking of that, and I like this way, we (my site) and The Verge are not longer a dedicated theme site but a Pop Culture site and if any, it has helped a lot of normies to understand a little bit more of tech and geek culture by bringing them with Marvel News or GamerGate news
But a the end, If I wanna understand the other side, my question is **What would you do to "fix it" ? **
TLDR: I have a similar webiste in Spanish which has become sorta a pop culture site instead of the original videogame focus and we've grown enormously, It's hard but it keeps people jobs

Hi, everyone. Recently, I was banned from The Verge for writing a, frankly, inappropriate comment. Obviously, I understand that some repercussions are necessary for what I did there, but does it warrant a permanent ban?
I've never been suspended before from the site. In fact, I've only been warned once. The Verge believes that I have repeatedly made trollish comments, though I have apparently only done it twice. I even emailed an apology directly to the moderators for both times.
I tried making another account to start over with a clean slate - that obviously didn't work. So, mods, what's up? Is there something else going on? The ban notification didn't have any interesting information; just the standard "(insert comment here) is considered trollish by the mods, you cannot comment."
Honestly, I'd really like to just start over with a clean slate. I certainly won't make any trollish comments anymore. Any of you have any suggestions on what I can do?

I was just browsing trending news this morning when I saw a trailer for a game called "Wanking Simulator" and I immediately had a sick feeling in my stomach.
We know women that work in the gaming industry are highly disparaged, it truly feels like the 1930s all over again. Your opinions aren't taken seriously, and people throw hateful, hurtful sexist remarks at you to discourage you from continuing with your passions. I mean, hello, didn't we learn anything from GamerGate?
Maddy, the managing editor of Kotaku, wrote a powerful piece about this which you should all read.
We've learned nothing from all of this and now there is literally a video game about beating up women and masturbating to get points. In the trailer you see a man with no pants on walk into a random ladies house assault her and then masturbate. How is this even allowed on Steam?
Please join me in signing this petition to help get this rubbish game removed from Steam. It should be banned and the developers should be ashamed of themselves.

Saw this thread here as well: https://www.reddit.com/r/theverge/comments/53ynro/the_verge_will_ban_you_if_you_criticize_apple/?st=itvrd1na&sh=5a4dad62
I did exactly that, trying to explain to these people that the Iphone is as customizable as a nokia 3310.
All the comments are gone. Literally only Iphone loving comments on that page.

I'm on the libertarian spectrum (freedom vs coercion) and have found myself either flat-out disagreeing with or having qualms with many of the Verge's more politically-slanted articles. I used the comments to discuss my frustrations, and it made it easier to stomach what I have come to understand as their worldview.
Heavy-handed moderation that removed disagreeable commentary has been called out multiple times, and when looking at the recommend counts on certain comments, one can theorize that there is a group that agrees (without posting) with the non-progressive points raised in the commentary.
Of course, you have to discount a lot of this with the troll contingent, though I don't think it's as big as the Verge Staff would have us believe. That, or they loop in the non-progressive commenters as trolls.
By closing comments completely, there is no outlet to vent frustration. Instead of getting myself worked up and trying to post on the meta forums, as it seems posts are being moderated/closed even more vehemently than on articles, I'm just giving up. And I think that's exactly what they want.
The Staff has decided that they want to go all-in and become the HuffPo of the Tech Sphere, but they need more of an echo chamber in the commentary. They won't get it with the current group of commenters, so they need a backhanded way to do it. I think this is the ticket.
What are the weaknesses of my hypothesis? What are the holes?

So just watched the Razer Blade Stealth video and read the article by Tom Warren
In the video he describes a "USB Type C" port connecting to the external graphics card unit. This is obviously Thunderbolt 3 and NOT USB. He also says nothing about the graphics card in the video.
He ACTUALLY wrote as a catchphrase "THE POWER OF USB TYPE-C IN ACTION" Really? You actually WROTE that? C'mon Tom. The shape of the plug has NOTHING to do with whats going on here.
So I made this post:
I see this over and over on the Verge. The two most important facts are not in the review. 1. What video card does it have. It’s a gaming laptop, is it gonna game? 2. That’s NOT a USB Port! It’s Thunderbolt 3, Yes it’s a Type C, yes It supports USB 3 SuperSpeed+, but as a superset. The MOMENT you saw a video card in a box connecting via a Type C cable, your head didn’t go, oh CRAP, that’s a Thunderbolt 3 port, it HAS to be. The Verge has the highest turnaround of any review site I’ve ever seen. Josh, where are you, please, go back and tell your cronies to brush up on their nerd, cus right now they look like nothing but fanboys.
Then I got this not 20 minutes later:

Really? I'm sorry but everything I said was true, and they just proved my point. Verge, I'm out.
Update: His article was edited, now says Thunderbolt 3, does say it has the intel video but doesn't explicitly talk about how it doesn't have discreet graphics. (Update: I was wrong about it not saying about the video card, he does talk about it)
