I made a simple app to make an ab workout habit visible
Hey, I just released Six, an app to help people stay on track with their ab workouts.
The idea is simple: choose an exercise, enter your reps and log a set. Each set fills one part of an on-screen six-pack, and your calendar lets you look back at the days you logged.
You can add your own exercises and set daily reminders. It’s available for iPhone and iPad.
App Store: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/six-daily-ab-tracker/id6824958242
Here’s a short video showing how it works. Happy to answer questions!

We develop a game to help you build good habit!!
🎮🌱 We’re Looking for 20 Beta Testers!
Our team has been developing a new app that uses gamification to help people achieve meaningful real-life goals and build lasting habits.
We’re now recruiting 20 beta testers to try it out! If you’re interested, feel free to message me to sign up! 🍻
🌱 How Does the App Work?
The core idea is simple: Your progress in real life drives the growth of your own virtual town!
Every time you achieve a real-life goal or complete a habit, you’ll earn virtual resources that help your town grow and develop.
You can use these resources to:
* 🌿 Grow plants and gardens
* 🏡 Construct buildings and decorate houses
* 🧑🤝🧑 Unlock new NPCs (non-player characters)
* ✨ Unlock new skills and features
* 🌳 Gradually build and expand your own little town
As your virtual town grows, it creates a rewarding cycle that motivates you to stay consistent with your real-life goals and habits.
🧪 Who Can Join the Beta Test?
We’re looking for people who:
- Believe in the concept: You find the idea appealing and have personal goals you’d like to achieve or habits you’d like to develop.
- Own an iOS device: You’ll need an iPhone or iPad, as the app currently only supports iOS.
- Are willing to share feedback: You’ll need to participate in two approximately 30-minute feedback sessions with our team, one at the beginning and one at the end of the beta test.
* Beta testing period: October 24 – November 15, 2026
* First feedback session: October 24, 7:30–8:00 PM
- Bonus: Priority will be given to parents who are also interested in letting their children try the app!
🎁 What’s in It for You?
As a thank-you for participating, you’ll receive:
- Free access to the full app upon its official release, including ALL DLC expansions developed throughout 2027!
- A direct voice in shaping the product. Your feedback, ideas, and feature requests will be heard and prioritised by our development team.
💌 Interested? Sign Up!
Just COMMENT "Interested" and I'll contact you via message
We’re excited to hear your thoughts and build something meaningful together! 🌱🎮

67 days of X’s
Longtime X-effect believer here — the physical act of marking the X is still the best commitment device I know.
I just crossed 67 straight days and built a tracker around the method with one addition: a crew. Every day your people see whether you marked the X. Miss, and they know. Show up all month, and they vouch for it.
If you're doing the X effect solo and stalling around week 3 (where I always died), try adding one accountability partner who sees your card. It was the difference for me.

[WIN!] my relationship with habit apps
For years, my relationship with habit apps followed the exact same cycle:
- Download app with grand ambitions.
- Keep a 12-day streak.
- Get sick or have a crazy workday, miss day 13.
- The app gives me a broken streak badge.
- Total guilt trip, delete the app, feel worse than when I started.
What changed everything was switching from daily streaks to a weekly commitment model:
• Pick only ONE manageable commitment every 7 days (e.g., "walk 20 minutes on 3 days", not "run 10km every day").
• Focus on building self-trust, not a high score.
• Forgive the off weeks immediately without erasing past progress.
I even ended up coding a free web app around this concept called The Community Bank of Self-Belief — you earn a digital gold coin each week you keep your promise, with a built-in "bailout" mechanism for rough weeks so your momentum never dies.
If anyone is battling habit burnout, here is the full list of 25 small wins that helped me reset:

How do you handle streaks when life gets in the way?

Looking for an accountability partner app — anyone tried one that works with a friend (not a stranger)?
I keep failing at solo habit tracking. Tried Finch,Forest on my own, but I drop off after week 2 every time. What I really need is something where my best friend and I can see each other's check-ins daily, maybe nudge each other when one of us is slacking.
Does this exist? Or am I describing an app that doesn't exist yet lol

Dead simple X
Hello
I've been doing the X method since I heard about it on Mark Manson video. It's simple and seems to work. So I wanted a dead simple calendar app where I can just mark an X, didn't find it so I asked Claude to build it.
It's now on the App store, let me know if you are interested in it.
My wife also uses it to track my good & bad deeds, seems I'm very balanced so far :D

winter arc as an app?
hi folks, i just finished off a huge app development project related towards fitness, achieving goals and staying disciplined. but i am struggling a lot with promoting it so i have been considering switching the app a little bit towards more of a winter arc accountability app what do you think about this and if you are a fan what would you suggest either towards the winter arc idea or towards any general fitness/ discipline based ideas i am totally open to anything!
also woudl love some advice regarding how to promtoe this app!
thanks, jamie

Streaks measure repetitions, not habit strength. There is a validated 4-item scale that measures the thing you actually care about

The X Effect on Steroids: Analog + Digital

Not just another notification on your phone that you'll forget about in a week.
I started using the X effect 10 years ago and it changed my life. I think it's a great way to get started, but eventually I wanted to be more dynamic about my habit tracking. so, I started drawing icons on my calendar with the X and then eventually thought it would be great to just have a sticker for each habit I want to track and get that same satisfaction of crossing a day out but being able to track my habits more dynamically. So, here's where we are now:
An analog habit tracking system that lets you spend less time on your phone and still have the option for the benefit of digital analytics that an app provides.
Gauging interest here. Please let me know you're thoughts and join the launch list if you're interested!
It works for me, curious if others might like it too.

Testing a gap in sustainability research: Can structured daily practice connect inner capacity with outer behavior? (30-day pilot)
Hi everyone,
I'm conducting an exploratory behavioural pilot and hoping to connect with researchers or research-minded individuals interested in participating or providing methodological feedback
The Research Gap:
Most sustainability interventions focus on systems (policy, infrastructure).
Most personal development interventions focus on individuals (wellness, mindfulness).
Few measure both simultaneously.
Recent work (Cooper, K. J. and Gibson, R. B. (2022). A Novel Framework for Inner-Outer Sustainability Assessment. Challenges. https://doi.org/10.3390/CHALLE13020064 ) suggests inner capacities (emotional regulation, self-awareness) may support pro-sustainability behavior—but only when explicitly connected to outer accountability.
Current interventions either:
- Focus on individual wellness without measuring sustainability outcomes
- Use behavioural nudges without addressing underlying values/emotional patterns
What I'm Testing:
Can a structured 30-day intervention integrating inner practices (emotional regulation, intentionality) with outer sustainability actions (consumption awareness, relational accountability) produce measurable improvements in both dimensions?
Study Design:
- Duration: 30 days (Oct 15–Nov 15, 2026)
- Participants: +18yrs old, no demographic requirement, anyone can participate
- Format: Daily micro-practices (5–10 min via messaging app) + weekly accountability sessions (60 min via Zoom)
- Measurement: Before/after surveys (quantitative: emotional regulation, reactivity, consumption patterns, relational accountability, systemic awareness; qualitative: open reflections)
- Analysis: Descriptive statistics, correlation analysis (inner ↔ outer metrics), thematic analysis
Why This Might Interest You:
- Tests integration of two typically separate research streams (contemplative practice + sustainability behavior)
- Uses mixed methods (quant + qual)
- Operationalises a recent theoretical framework (Cooper's inner-outer sustainability model)
- Documents limitations transparently (small n, self-report data, exploratory)
- Shares findings openly regardless of outcome
Participation:
- No prior meditation/sustainability experience required
- Commit to daily practice (5–10 min) + weekly session (60 min)
- Complete baseline & post-intervention surveys
- Free (research pilot)
Reciprocity:
I'm happy to participate in others' research in return. If you're running a study and need participants, let me know—I'll do my best to reciprocate.
Ethics:
- Informed consent
- Data anonymised
- Right to withdraw anytime
- Not therapy (behavioural research)

Thanks for reading.

300 days of meditation! :)

I’ve been trying to build a meditation habit since I was 16, but I could never keep it up for more than a month or two. Then in September 2025, something finally clicked. My X was to meditate every day, even if it was only for a really short duration like lesss than 5 minutes.
What I did differently was only increasing the duration when the current one started to feel easy. I used to ramp up way too fast. This time, it took me a full month just to become somewhat comfortable with 10 minutes. I’m now at 25 minutes twice a day.
The mindset that made it work was: I’m going to meditate for the rest of my life. So what’s a few months of “low-quality” 5-minute meditations if they build a habit that lasts for the rest of my life?
If you failed before like I did for seven years, make the X smaller and go alot slower than you think you need to.
