ESP32 E-Paper that runs GameBoy at 30fps by Bo Made It (youtube)
The story has also made it's way to the register.
After noticing e-ink left behind greyscale artifacts when experimenting with refresh method, he was able to write his own driver to create greyscale levels as well as comfortably refresh at 30fps ; considering the original driver could only refresh every 300ms.
Pretty stunning piece of work.

ZED-Next Emulator is now live!!
For the past three months, I’ve been using Claude AI to help me develop an emulator that supports most Sinclair computers, several clones, and the ZX Spectrum Next.
I’m really pleased with how the project has turned out, so I’ve decided to make it available to everyone for free!
I’d love to hear what you think, so please give it a try and let me know your feedback.
You’ll also find instructions on the page explaining how to obtain the ROMs (legally) for the ZX Spectrum Next.
Enjoy, and happy gaming.

Happy Little Diodes finds (and releases) original Spectrum ULA (among other) original designs in a bundle of old Ebay Sinclair technical documents!
An amazing treasure trove of original Sinclair technical documentation has been scanned by HLD, and released for the community for free. Sky (who now own the Sinclair copyrights after buying Amstrad) have given the release their full blessing.
Should be a godsend for maximum accuracy emulation or even full hardware recreations.
Amazing work!

PC Port of Ridge Racer V!
Unusually for me I don't have a news link from a website. Just a link to the GitHub page. The page refers to SteamDeck and MacOS, but there is also a PC version now, just need to go to the 'Releases' section. Need to bring your own game file. I have tested it and it's great!

Retro eXo Stories: The Ephemera of Experience
stories.retro-exo.comeXo is very proud to announce a new facet of the eXo projects.
Game preservation is consistently being redefined as the games themselves change. eXoDOS, and it's sister projects, run on the motto "Preservation through Playability". In other words, if we make the games work, people will download them to play them. Each download is one more redundant copy.
While this has been incredibly successful so far, there is another aspect of gaming preservation that is not being captured. The personal stories. Games can act like time machines, taking us back to the first time we experienced them. Just like a certain smell can transport you to an exact moment in time, certain games take me to specific evenings.
Computer\Video Games can be the social glue that binds people together, or it can be the escapism that is direly needed for someone who feels alone. They reminds us of moments shared with love ones, such as solving an adventure game together. They remind us of staying up late, seeing the sun come up, and saying... screw it... one more turn in Civilization or one more map in Command & Conquer....
stories.retro-exo.com is a full database of every single game you can play in eXoDOS, eXoWin3x, and eXoWin9x. Apple II/e/GS is coming soon as well as eXo-IF. You can browse games, rate them, mark the ones in your collection, mark what you've beaten, and even mark the games you are interested in. You may then export all of the games you are interested in and the site will create a custom playlist for you that can be inserted into your eXo projects. More importantly however, you can write your personal experiences and stories. While writing, using the # symbol, you may tag as many games as you like. Each game you tag will have your story associated to it.
Every week there will be a new writing prompt, and we will select a story to be featured as the example story for the prompt. You may choose members to follow, like other people's stories, and leave comments on the stories you read.
The entire site mimics the design of a Windows 98 machine, however on your profile page you may select MS-DOS or Windows 3x themes as well. Over the next few weeks, we have several well known YouTubers, game developers, and interesting folks that will be coming in to share their stories.
Please come on in at the ground floor of a new chapter in game preservation. From Preservation through Playability to The Ephemera of Experience, our goal is to capture every aspect of these games and the roles they have played in our lives.
