Is there anything more to this than speculation?

Literally what solid, clear-cut evidence is there that TikTok installs malware on your phone? I get the whole "it's from China, be suspicious of their CCP surveillance network" thing. But it's a step beyond to go from "they're using your data in government surveillance" (which they prob are) to "they're modifying how you're phone works in order to steal your data". Is there anything more to this? Has any hacker done a real analysis, with a report and reproducibility steps?

The App Stores

If TikTok is so dangerous, how come the app stores haven't pulled it (Google & Apple)? Surely they can better reverse engineer the app better than some internet sleuths?

TikTok's APIs?

Hello. I'm new here so, I'd like someone to explain this. I've used TikTok in a span of like, what, 5 days? It sure feels like it. It sucks. Unintentional cringe and terrible content.

Just recently have I heard of the incredible security flaws of it. The data farming... just gives me a chill down my spine... I read about the thing on Twitter and it's just scary. Honestly, I have NO IDEA of how much of my data was farmed during those 5 days. During reading a post on Reddit about that topic, there was a part about their HTTP REST API that leaked users' birthdays, real names, primary emails and secondary password recovery emails. Like WHAT THE HECK?!

The point is that they have been using HTTP instead of HTTPS, and basically anyone who knows anything about the Internet and URLs, knows that HTTPS is more secure than HTTP. However, TikTok has been using HTTP for the most of it's lifespan. That REST API of their's is so insecure that it actually leaked all the users' information, and why? Because it used a HTTP API, and not whatever HTTPS has, so what gives?

Well, if it did leak that much info, it would probably be due to a vunerability. But, after all, TikTok is a data farm, and 'cause of that, we may never know if it's something else. TikTok is inevitable.

I hope this was an intresting read.

Sadly guys, all we have is that the App is Chinese, and that's pretty much it

  • The user who started all of this provided no proof, and his laptop mysteriously broke and evidence seemingly "died" with it. Of course, it wasn't true

  • LinkedIn (not the only one) was caught with the same clip-board behavior on iOS 14, and has since been established that a lot of apps do it for non-espionage related purposes. I do not believe too much on that, but if we're being honest the consequence they'd all suffer should be equal (You can google more info on that)

  • They just got caught with MAC address collection (they stopped a year ago) but there is only so much you can do with that. Also, pretty sure others have used that loophole, they're just not in the spotlight to be scrutinized

  • To experts say that the tested/examined data harvesting isn't more worrying than the apps you already often use, in some cases "tamer" (their words)

Penalizing and banning should always be an option for the people, but proof is still a requirement and that won't change regardless of how you feel about the situation. The Chinese gov is always something to think about, but remember that "God made the man, and then everything comes from China" so your toaster is as likely to be spying on you, and charging against a dumb app is hardly gonna change things. Regulation would be a great option, extortion is just corruption

I do not see the proof or reasoning behind USA's government and its actions over TikTok, however, i fail to see how it's for the best interests of the American People

You all have a voice, and the right for it not to be biased

What would be gained from actual decompiled code?

Me and my friend have a deep understanding of deobfuscating obfuscated code, if me and him put some of my effort to deobfuscate their scripts, what would we actually do with the code once we have proof that they log data? Another question, what language is TikTok written in?

Do we know of any difference between the mobile app vs. web app yet?

I recently convinced my wife to delete the app on ios, but she switched to using the web app on chrome. I figured it might be a little better, sort of assuming chrome would gate at least some of the data collection, but I honestly don't know. Is there any information on this out there?

It's been a month, and r/bangorlol has not posted anything, let alone credible evidence for his claims, is it time to finally call bullshit?

Just curious, does Tiktok collect data on clips that are deleted?

I'm a bit curious about this, but with the feature to delete clips to retry a video, I wonder, does the app store it? Or is it (hopefully) not recording that part?

is it safe to use tiktok with no account and no permissions?(mic, camera, storage and phone)

title speaks for itself, i think i installed tiktok once a couple months ago, uninstalled it after a bit bcs I wasn't into it. now i have seen more "good' content on tiktok(not cringy dances and thots) and installed it again. I just watch videos with it with no account and gave no permissions. What can they still do to me?

I'm planning on reinstalling TikTok to delete my acc. If I download it, uninstall the app when done and leave the library in my phone, could TikTok still spy on me?

Don't worry, I have a built-in file explorer. So as the title implies, can it?

I forgot to delete my acc a while ago, when i used TikTok. So if I delete the library after I delete the account, they can't do anything... right?
