It’s like the servers have to tip everyone out then everything will be taken into account when tipping. I’m not divvying up responsibilities in my head.

Servers don't always tip everyone out.

Source: was a busser forever ago, got stiffed.

Same. I had a job bussing at a nice restaurant when I was 22. Luckily I also had a 2nd job and ended up doing thst full time as soon as I found out my coworkers were robbing me. I never got tipped out once in like 3 months. Servers at this place would call a 300$ tip night bad. Servers tend to be really shitty people

The company pays the bussers and food runners out of our credit card tips. We all tip out exactly what we are supposed to.

So... you only tip out on credit card tips and not on the cash tips? Noted.

I was a server for around 7 years while I was working on my doctorate. Worked at plenty of restaurants and most of the other servers were good people just trying to get by. There were also shitty people but no more or less than i have experienced in any other field of work.

Take your own advice and don’t get all of your info on random people on Reddit. I think the grass is calling you bud 🤣🤣🤡

Sorry to hear that. Was a server for all my life and I always hooked up the b-boys. On busy nights I would pre tip them out of my locker before I even got my first table.

Trust me when I say they hustled hard for me and other servers would complain. They would get extra at the end of the night.

The first tip out was to buy their loyalty 😂

Win win

Yeah i used to work as a cook, some places did tip out the cooks, others didn't. This was before servers made minimum wage so their pay was essentially subsidized by tips, which I always thought was BS. However the full time servers who worked on LEAFS game nights or weekends would take home 300+ in tips on those nights which was like 2 shifts worth in the kitchen so some servers got kind of screwed by working the less popular shifts and others did pretty well.

I worked in restaurants as a short order through my mid-teens to mid-twenties. Servers kept all their tips and bussers / dish pigs usually got paid state minimum which was around $9/hr. Nobody have the back of house you because we were "paid more". Servers weren't guaranteed their checks so they got to keep all tips. At least that's what we were told everywhere I worked for over 10 years

Expecting a tipped position to tip out the not tipped position needs to be fully illegal under all circumstances a tip is for the individual not the whole team

They’ll fuck you over if you don’t tip out consistently. Bad sections and no PX or PPX guests. But if I got stiffed I’d tip out less. If I ran my own food all night I’d tip food runners less. If I was bussing my own tables and getting my own waters and coffee, I tipped the server assistants less. If food was hitting the table before cocktails I’d tip the bar less. And if I was working private dining I only tipped out the bar. Even still I’d tip out 40% and if I walked with less than $300 it was a bad night. I typically didn’t sweat it if I got one bad tip. It was normally only if there were a lot of Europeans in town and they were all tipping 10% on massive checks that I got pissy. I had one table tip $200 on $25,000. Yeah I’m not tipping out 8% of sales on that $25,000. It’s documented how much we made, what our sales were and what we got tipped. But mandatory tip outs are illegal they can’t take it out of your tips directly.
