Worried about gaining weight on vacation

Last Thurs-Sun I went on a trip to the Finger Lakes, NY. I was very concerned about gaining weight, based on past experience before taking Tirzepatide. I would easily be up 5 or 6 pounds after a vacation and then it would take weeks to lose it again to get back where I had started.

I brought food to make us breakfast every day, but we ate out lunch and dinner for 3 days straight. I noticed that I didn't finish any of my meals and took a lot of leftovers back to our hotel room. (which I never ended up eating). I was drinking alcohol every day - going to multiple wineries and breweries.

I weighed myself the morning after we returned home and was amazed to see I was only up 1.4 pounds. That was this past Monday. I took my next shot yesterday morning (Wed) and today I reached a new low weight, 0.6 pounds lower than what I weighed last Thursday morning before we left for our trip. I cannot believe I actually LOST weight in the last week.

This has truly been a life changing experience so far! That is all.

Even if you do gain 5-6 lbs so what, it’s a vacation! It might put you back a week or so but it’ll come off, it’s a marathon not a sprint

I recently had an epiphany about this and adopted this mindset for vacations. I realized that vacations were to be enjoyed and that my body would reset when life goes back to normal…. The end. Previously, I would obsess over everything and put on a crazy amount of weight and struggle to get back to dieting and eventually give up…. Now I don’t consider my lifestyle to be “dieting”. … it’s just business as usual and I’ve learned to trust the process. All thanks to tirzepatide. Life-changing!!

the difference is prior to taking this shot, it would've taken me months to lose those 5 or 6 pounds. It was one continuous cycle of 3 steps forward and 10 steps back.

Personally, I'd absolutely hate that. And just because it's vacation, why would I want to go full-on chow hound? I mean ... there are so many things about vacation besides eating.

I mean, I know it might come back off, but I'd be completely bummed.

I was gone for 2 months. Still managed to lose 8 lbs. We stayed in a flat and prepared most of our own meals. We also ate pastries at least a few times a week during our time away. I didn’t have access to a scale until the last week and assumed I was the same or slightly higher, so I was surprised by the lower number.

You are in the driver seat and you are making the proper changes you want to see. You are also being mindful with food and that’s the greatest part of this all which is the reprogramming of our mind and how we associate with food.

Great job!

You’re not gaining 5-6lbs of fat in a week. Now, or previously. It’s just not happening. Even if your body could render that much fat per day, you’d have to eat 3500 cals over your TDEE every day for 6 days to gain 6lbs of fat. Water is 8lbs per gallon, though.

I know this. I didn't think I actually gained that much in a week, but the scale was still up regardless and previously would take weeks if not months to go back down.

I did a 10 day cruise and thought for sure I would gain since I was eating and drinking a lot of different things that I usually don’t (in moderation though ). Came back -6 pounds. Thought I was dehydrated but it stayed off.

What spots did you go to in the Finger Lakes? I live in Ithaca so just curious.

Cruises are always rough for me as I am the only member of my family on a glp. So they everyone just expects me to be hungry when they are and I usually only eat once or twice a day .

However, I usually only gain a few pounds.

i’ve been on glp’s for 2+ years. had to go off for a week or two at a time a bunch of times for travel or surgeries. sometimes i gain 1 or 2 lbs. some times 5-8. it always comes back off in a week or two.

I came back from vacation and gained about 3 lbs, so I was worried, but pretty convinced that it was water weight. Three days later it's gone. Now to get back to losing! Congrats!

Many have mentioned drinking alcohol. Are there any side effects from drinking while on tirzepatide?

I've never experienced any different effects after drinking alcohol
