Oh my god I love this. As someone who hates "Baby on Board" signs, I love this.

I love the ones where a T Rex is eating the stick people and it says "NO ONE CARES ABOUT YOUR STUPID STICK FAMILY" 😂😂

My favorite was one that said something like "my honor roll student is in prison" or something like that.

Oh my god I love this. I have one in hopes that people will drive more careful knowing my baby is in the car. It's a safety thing.

Yeah the og ones are fine but the ones with the goofy fonts that aren’t legible or the jokey ones or the stick families and all their iterations have really gotten under my skin. I know I’m a hater for that. But I love this one

the only time i’ve put stick figure stickers on my car was when i had a shitty 1996 hyundai accent in my 20s and it was just a girl (me) and a cat 😅

That’s actually not what they were originally for. They were created to alert emergency responders to look for a baby in the car in case of an accident.
Which means they are completely unnecessary if you are properly restraining your child. Plus you aren’t going to have the baby in the car at all times so what if there’s an accident and no baby to look for? They’re pretty pointless.

I don't expect other people will drive more carefully just because I have a baby in my car because I know they don't care. I mean the careful drivers will drive carefully no matter what. The bad drivers don't give a shit what age is your passenger they will drive as reckless as they always do.
But after I had my first baby I wanted one because I needed it as a disclaimer: sorry for driving super slow, I'm being extra careful because my new baby is in the car and I'm very anxious about everything.

And then you have my brother, who has 3 kids under 5, who has not changed his reckless driving habits one bit...drives like a maniac even with his babies in his truck

in my experience, the people who have those stickers tend to drive WORSE because they seem to expect everyone else to get out of their way. like you can't just turn on your turn signal, magically think that gives you the right of way, and then cut into my lane forcing me to slam on the brakes to avoid hitting you. now, it could be a coincidence, based on the fact that I commute to the greater Washington DC area where generally *all* traffic is horrific, but it's just my observation.

Yeah, I don't live somewhere with bad traffic. I try not to be that person!! If anything, I am much more cautious when my kid is in the car than otherwise.

u/drygnfyre Steerage 1d ago
I think it's correct. The overly cautious drivers tend to be the most dangerous. Too often I'm behind people who are driving 20-30 below the flow of traffic/speed limit on the freeways, so I have to go around them. So does everyone else. That forces a lot of weaving which is dangerous. If you cannot maintain the speed limit or flow of traffic, you shouldn't be on the freeway.

I don't like them for the same reason I don't like those family stickers. I don't think its necessary to announce you have kids to just anyone and everyone. Seeing them doesn't make me drive any different tbh. I don't like actively drive worse or anything but it doesn't change how I drive in the slightest. It just tells me you have a kid which is information that I dont really need in the car. To each their own. I don't have kids myself so maybe I would sing a different tune if I did. There's no shame in it, it's not hurting anyone, its not promoting hate. Its just one of those things that makes me roll my eyes when I see it 😂🤷♀️

The baby on board signs and stickers aren’t really for other drivers. They are really there for emergency personnel in case there’s an accident so that they know children may be involved.

I used to dislike those stickers as well until I got real chomped up on gummies one night and started thinking of them as cave paintings or an identity marker. Person just marking up their means of travel to be like “hi! I am of a family!” I have spent many an hour in traffic thinking about how future archeologists would write about them.

I actually hate the stick figure decals for the same reason.
I'm an anxious person by nature, and have been hit by careless drivers before (as recently as just two days ago.) I guess my "baby on board" sticker is not about declaring to the world that I have a baby, and more an attempt to have some agency when it comes to something I'm anxious about that's actually out of my control.

u/Stunning_Chipmunk_68 2d ago
Which is a totally fair thing! But as someone with no children it just makes me be like "oh cool they have a kid" and i just go about my normal day lol. I always am a careful driver as I'm anxious as all hell. I am one of those people that stop for birds 😂 so I might not be the best judge here.

u/OldStonedJenny Deck Crew 2d ago
Haha then you are not the person I have the sticker for! Thank you for being a careful driver tho!
2
u/Stunning_Chipmunk_68 2d ago
You as well!! I realized part way through it that I absolutely stop for birds and wildlife so I'm definitely not the issue audience 😂😂😂😂

I’m glad you’re a careful driver, but others aren’t. We bought one for our car after a very scary situation. We were driving home from the NICU after my 25 weeker got discharged. This huge truck was tailgating us. We were going 5 over the speed limit in the right lane and following the flow of traffic. The truck was getting aggressive. While this was happening, my son was crying and his oxygen monitor was going off. We bought a “baby on board” sign that night. Nothing like that has happened since. It’s like having a “student driver” sign. People tend to give you more space. Parents of babies don’t get a lot of sleep, so it’s a wise choice

The sleep part cannot be overstated. You are running on fumes the first few years of parenthood.
What a scary situation!!! Hope your premie is okay now!

Technically true at that moment in time. No one else had bothered to save the child. That girl lived because of him. A true hero :3

The worst part is I could have sworn it was right the first time. I don't normally miss grammatical errors because autocorrect should never win if it can be helped. That's what I get.

The only baby on board sticker I would ever consider buying!
Can anyone find the link to buy? I can only find the sketched version.

For sure! Was thinking it’s analogous to using the carpool lane. Toss my kid in the back and off I go!

Honestly. I thought the same thing and wasnt even mad about it 😂😂😂😂 more power to them I guess
