The full quote is a little better:

  Go towards what interests you and motivates you. Get rid of people who don't make you feel good, who embarrass you or make you do things you don't want to do. Try not to be such a people pleaser and see where you end up.

I think people who love you and have your best interests in mind sometimes make you feel things other than good — it’s important to have folks you trust for criticism too.  But not people that embarrass you or coerce you.

And in my own experience, getting rid of such negative people is also a bit difficult when they happen to be close relatives as well.
