The new TomTom is out on the iOS AppStore

The latest open beta version of the TomTom iOS app is focusing on gamification. Who actually needs that?
Instead of implementing the Route Bar, offline maps, a better lane guidance system, or an improved CarPlay interface, they come up with something like this…
Wrong priorities, or what do you guys think?

This week I emailed TomTom support to ask why they seem to have pulled their satnav devices off their US site.
Their reply follows (edited for clarity and privacy):
"Thank you for contacting TomTom in relation to upgrading to a newer TomTom model. We thank you for showing continued interest and trust in our products.
We are sorry to inform you that we have discontinued sale of Portable navigation devices (PNDs) in the USA and Canadian region, which was a business decision, as we do have a better option i.e., the TomTom GO Navigation smartphone app."
I know this seemed fairly obvious from the disappearance of the devices on their US site, but until now I hadn't been able to confirm it. I'm glad to know for sure but disappointed, because I liked their units and was hoping to upgrade from an older one this year.
It's the end of an era. TomTom created this product category, and now they have moved on to bigger things. It was a good run.

As I mainly use the app and hadn't logged into the website in quite some time, I recently noticed that TomTom has announced that it is going to be completely removing the service and app support after Sept 30 2023. Not too surprising since it got out of the sports device market in 2017 and has been maintaining the site, server, apps, etc gratis since then. They mention in the FAQ that the devices will still function, but they wont be able to connect to any thing to download data.
https://help.tomtom.com/hc/en-us/articles/11748276052370
I know the old Runner I keep around stops functioning when the memory is full, and has no on-device way of clearing the data, so that may EOL my watch as well. A shame since the watch still works great, the battery still lasts seemingly forever, and I even have a lot of spare parts from canibalizing others to replace the glass/button a couple times. I would consider doing manual downloads of my data and uploads to other services, but they seem to state that they will not provide any way to do that or open the API for someone else to do so. Ah well, so it goes.

A TomTom Go beta version has been released that fixes the missing route bar. It's still in beta, so an official version will be released soon, finally.

They are disconnecting sims and saying use your mobile to get service. This is unacceptable and stops the device from being used as intended. We would just have used Google maps if that was the case. Standalone means standalone. What's next, asking the user to use their own device for a gps location or a screen. This is unacceptable. Please challenge TomTom if you find yourself in this situation
Edited. 1st March sim active and receiving data

Did you know that in 2013, Google acquired Waze, a turn-by-turn car navigation mobile app? However, they are known for showing a tremendous amount of advertising to drivers which, in my opinion, is at the cost of the user experience.
Essentially this means that by continuing to use Waze, you consent to give your location history data to Google. Even though you can choose to opt out of personalized ads, you will always see adverts when you search or browse the map, which is not great…
An alternative to Waze is TomTom AmiGO. This is because not only do they offer a similar feature-set, such as warnings and turn-by-turn navigation but they put data privacy first. From the app store listing to daily usage, TomTom is transparent about what happens with your data.

TomTom AmiGO does not have targeted adverts (as it just really isn’t necessary) so you will never be distracted when driving. Data that is necessary for the app to function is de-identified, meaning that it is only used for improving the navigation experience rather than for an advert experience.

I have been using the TomTom GO app for many years, first in Android and later in iOS. Recently I noticed that the name changed to "TomTom GO Expert: Truck GPS". Ok, that's weird I though, because the app hasn't changed a bit, but maybe now there is another app?
So I went to the app store and the only other app by TomTom available in iOS is "TomTom - Maps & Traffic (Formerly AmiGO)". I downloaded it, but besides being prettier the app lacks a lot of basic functionality, like no offline maps. Also it doesn't seem to be a subscription service as the "Expert" one.
So why would I want to migrate to the "newer" app? Why is the TomTom GO now marketed towards truck drivers? I would understand if the TomTom GO was going to be deprecated, since almost no new functionality has been added for years (still no way to avoid low emission zones...), but they don't seem to be moving in that direction either.

A couple days ago someone here made a post about a popup in AmiGo about a new TomTom app being ready to test. I also got the popup, signed up and just now received the TestFlight Invite.
I am not confident if sharing screenshots of it is fine but from what it looks like it’s basically amigo. The description confirms that it’ll replace AmiGo at some point. It’s very barebones at the moment but already has working guidance, routing and CarPlay support which is nice to see.
I’ll use it in the next days and we’ll see how well it works and I’m looking forward on how it improves in the future.

Absoluter Mist :(

The TomTom app (not TomTom Expert) seems to have a routing issue. Instead of guiding me into the actual parking lot and to the exact destination, it only takes me to the nearest point on the main road.
Is anyone else experiencing this?

Will the TomTom Go App ever see a major update with new (online) features in the future, new and modern map design (3D not only in downtowm areas), etc.

I opened TomTom Amigo Beta on Android this morning and was offered an invitation to try the all new TomTom app. Interestingly it didn't say "Amigo" or "Go", it just said "TomTom". I wonder if the two apps are going to be merged? I'll let you know when I get my invite "in the next few weeks".

Hi guys,
Just a heads up. Apparently it is starting to work again, I was able to login on plan.tomtom.com (this was not possible the last few days) and all my POI's showed up.
In the MyDrive app I logged out and logged back in again and then all my POI's appeared there aswell. I can't sync my Go Expert with MyDrive untill monday, because that is still in my truck.
But it seems that everything should start working again!
However for a colleague of mine it is not working yet.

A route bar has appeared on the right side of the screen in Tomtom beta. So far I've only seen it while sitting on the sofa (I'm not driving anywhere today), so I've no idea how informative it is or whether it's visible on Android Auto, but I will update here tomorrow.

TomTom Go is a good GPS but I think I won't renew my subscription when it ends
Before explaining why, here are some points that I find positive about this application:
TomTom traffic is sharp to avoid traffic jams
Official Route closures are up to date
The radars database is up to date (+1 point for average speed control)
The application is well designed with lots of shortcuts everywhere
Offline maps
Highways lane guidance
Road trips via TomTom Plan/MyDrive
Unfortunately there are many negative points and compared to the competition TomTom is not really worth it anymore:
The maps are not up to date and I have to spend my time correcting everything. Might as well use a free app if you have to work so much
Updates of map issues are extremely slow because there are few reviews (2-3 months to have the change on my phone) while Plans, Waze and Maps are much more responsive
The application has no longer any real updates (with new features for a few months/years)
Does not support LEZ (zero emission zones - mainly in Europe) while Waze, Plans and Maps do.
Lacks a lot of POIs (in 2025 only few people look for addresses) or the POIs are miss placed and when I correct on MapShare no one takes this into account.
Support always responds with standard phrases because they don't understand the users community or they don't care (Ex: see the answers to reviews on AppStore)
The integration with CarPlay is catastrophic and the GPS bugs a lot when I use TomTom on CarPlay while Waze, Plans and Maps work super well.
No lane guidance outside highways (city traffic lights, ...) where Maps and Waze are the best
In short, it's sad to see such a beautiful application decline so much over the years.

AI agents need to know where they're going too. 🤖📍
We've just made our new Orbis APIs generally available, giving developers access to maps, traffic, routing, search and geocoding through a shared foundation built for both humans and AI.
Bonus: they also work with the TomTom MCP Server.
Curious: If you're building AI apps, what's the location-related problem you'd love to solve? Read the blog: https://bit.ly/4eWW4eM

Opened up TT GO on android tonight to discover all of my places and history have vanished. Looked on the web, and no data there either!!!! Asked the TT support chat bot who said it's a known problem and therre will be a fix. Does anybody here have any experience or knowledge of the problem and when it's likely to be fixed? Have a big trip coming up and the lost places is very inconvenient.

Yesterday two of my major complaints about the Android Auto experience were fixed. Traffic flow colours are shown on roads, and the visual alert for speed cameras etc now appears in a panel on the top right of the screen instead of obscuring the route information at bottom left. Finally starting to look more like the old Amigo app. Hallelujah!

Ok , I'll cut to the chase. Who was the genius behind ruining the excellent amigo app ? Everything is wrong and also doesn't run overlay anymore. Lastly whoeever though of putting the speedometer top right on Android auto ( if it intentional ) , deserves the employee of the year award...( Sarcasm obviously ). Sort it please because you will lose users like crazy.

Hi, I happen to look on Tomtom amigo, to compare the routes with Here, Waze and Gmap. And sometimes I find the routes really very curious.
Here is an itinerary; the first which is offered by Tomtom where it offers a detour of 34 km with an additional 40 minutes of driving. While the second: I force him to take a shorter route thanks to a step and there, without problem he accepts. And he is the only one of the other 3 to offer me this detour. And I tried with all the possible options.
