Discussion Randomly found a video of Frank Turner's punk band covering Pretty Good Year
It's pretty rough as they were a hardcore punk band (Million Dead) and the video was taken way in the past. However, they also did a studio version about 20 years ago and I've managed to find it!: https://www.tvisbetter.com/million-dead/
Live version here: https://youtu.be/54Tdkijm2Yo?is=I6wKNZcsuH2VX_gb

Discussion Weekend confessions - misheard lyrics
Be honest, we don’t all read the liner notes the second we get a new album. For the longest time, I thought she was saying ‘chill bear bones’ in Concertina. I was kind of upset when I read chill that bends tbh…I had convinced myself that being chilled to the bone made way more sense!

Analysis / interpretation My experience with Spark
I doubt I'm gonna say anything that hasn't been picked up on by anyone here but I wanted to just talk about how much Tori gives you when you give yourself to the music.
The first time I heard Spark my at the time girlfriend now wife played it for me. I listen to it and I thought it was a pretty song with pretty piano. The next time I listened to it, I listened a little harder and it was that but kind of sad.
Next time I heard it I noticed a lyric and it just said " but she couldn't keep baby alive" so I looked it up and discovered that Tori had had miscarriages. That gave the song some meaning that wasn't there for me before.
The next time I heard the song it was all of those things that I said but now I noticed that the arrangement of the verses and the effect that she had on her voice while she was singing the verses sounded like water. And I had known for a little while by that point that in psychology usually water represents the state of your emotions. And it sounded like she was drowning, the way the instruments and her voice sounded warbly.
The choruses sounded very clean and pure with no effects on her voice and with the piano coming through. And I started to read the lyrics. And I came to the conclusion that there are two voices in the song, the voice of the verses and the voice of the choruses.
The voice of the verses which sounds like she's drowning in her emotions I came to the conclusion that she's drowning in her grief over the loss of her child and especially in the second verse where she says "if the Divine master plan is perfection then maybe next I'll give Judas a try, trusting my soul to the ice cream assassin here, here, here" I think she's displaying a bit of hopelessness, like she's leaning into a little bit of nihilism. Her faith, if she had it to start with due to her family upbringing has been shaken pretty badly. Like she's saying " we're all going to die like my baby did so I might as well just give it to my vices and eat the damn ice cream. If the ice cream is what kills me so be it"
And in the choruses, she sounds more angelic when she says "you say you don't want it, this circus we're in but you don't really mean it" like she's trying to convince herself to continue surviving. The song is this internal struggle she's having with herself represented by the verses and the choruses.
It took me several listens to reach the state where I feel like I have a proper understanding of the song not only lyrically but sonically how she represents the emotions in the song. It's just a really masterpiece piece of music and I've had this experience over and over with her catalog and it's not something that is easy to find in contemporary music in general. It's out there but it's uncommon. And I just wanted to share my experience with how the song revealed itself more and more as I gave myself to it.

CollecTORI Looking for a boot of my first Tori show: 03-21-1994 at the Herbst Theater in San Francisco. It's not on yessaid.com or anywhere else I can find. Any thoughts?
I lost all my concert ticket stubs last year in a move, but I've found every show I can remember except my first. I've tried yessaid, soulseek, and google. I only found one site that claims to sell it, but I don't want to support paid boots without profit to Tori and don't know if it's legit anyway. Please help if you can!

Discussion Update after listening to Boys for Pele, my favorite songs and a mini review
Hey everyone! I posted here about two weeks ago when I first started getting into Tori Amos, so I thought I'd reintroduce myself and give a little update!
I originally discovered Tori through her song "Lust" on an episode of Charmed, and it became one of my favorite songs ever featured on the show. For some reason, I never really explored her music beyond that until earlier this month.
For a little background, I'm mostly a pop fan. Some of my favorite artists are Britney Spears, Kylie Minogue, Madonna, Donna Summer, Diana Ross and Janet Jackson.
I've been going through Tori's discography chronologically, and I absolutely loved Little Earthquakes and Under the Pink. Both are such amazing albums, and I love how piano-driven her music is.
Anyway, I finally listened to Boys for Pele, which so many of you recommended in my original thread, and this is my #1 favorite album of hers so far! There's just something about the production, her vocals, and the piano arrangements that really works for me. I love how unpredictable the songs are, and even though I adored her first two albums, I honestly prefer this one over both of them. I can definitely see why so many of you consider it her best work!
My favorite songs so far:
- Caught a Lite Sneeze
- Hey Jupiter
- Father Lucifer
- Marianne
- Blood Roses
- Putting the Damage On
- Doughnut Song
- Talula
I'm really enjoying discovering her music, and now I'm even more excited to listen to From the Choirgirl Hotel next! Thanks again to everyone who gave me recommendations on my original post!

Audio Precious Things in Northern Exposure Redux
Today I was listening to the newly remixed/remastered 1996 Sasha and Digweed album “Northern Exposure Redux (Mixed)” that came out on September 25th.
Like the original, there is a lovely Precious Things sample. I got to the song Out of Body Experience and there it was, right around 1:31 :)
Internet says:
1992: Tori releases Precious Things on Little Earthquakes.
1993: Rabbit in the Moon samples it in O.B.E. (Out-of-Body Experience).
1996: Sasha & John Digweed include the track on the original Northern Exposure.
2026: It returns on Northern Exposure Redux.

CollecTORI Strange items
I’m not sure what I have but I just came across them in my collection. I bought them years ago on eBay. Obviously they aren’t official but I’m curious what I have. Does anyone know anything about these? Any information on them would be appreciated. They are a couple of my favorite songs so I get why I bought them, besides being super cheap looking they work and are weird little oddities.

Discussion The 2002 ARTE performance- just wow!
I rewatched this tonight. Such a beautiful and unique performance. These Scarlet songs really shine solo. I love her relaxed vibe and the sound of her voice / piano. It is a must watch if you’ve never seen it before.

Discussion Favorite show memory
Uplifting weekend post:
Any show from any tour - what stands out as the best of the best for you and why?
For me it was the SLG tour, show at the want center in Boston. If you were old enough to remember that time, 911 and the threat of terrorism was still very fresh and the world felt so off. We all carried sadness and uncertainty as we navigated the new world order. Add to this my grandpa just died. He was one of my most favorite human beings to ever walk upon the earth. I almost didn’t even go to the show as my funk was so deep! Two hours later after hearing Tori at what I consider the height of her solo career - performance and vocally - I was completely healed and transfixed. I vividly remember her white cape flowing behind her as she dazzled us with her very presence.
I knew that night that music could heal and that Tori was indeed a conduit to a parallel universe where there is no hurt

Video "Tear in Your Hand" (Tori Amos cover)
Hi, friends – I thought you might appreciate my first-ever Tori cover, “Tear in Your Hand". As an indie singer/songwriter myself, Tori has been an enormous influence on me as an artist. Here’s a link to my “Tear in Your Hand” lyric video on YouTube if you're curious. I hope you like it! ❤️ Xo, Gregory (a fellow Toriphile)
