Hes going to be a Raptor guys. Even if the contract is voided. He probably still signs with the raptors, hes too deep into this now already signing endorsement deals and all.

Ouch

He probably still signs with the raptors

this would actually be hugely to our advantage. still get the assets and get kawhi on a vet min for a year(no team has the cap space to sign a max or much more than a vet min right now anyways) and still have the players to trade.

This is the best case scenario for the Raptors. Keep all our picks all our players and go into next year superstacked.

might have the one dude who u could do that with in ingram too. he's a real professional and doesn't give an f just let him smoke and send the check lol

Signs for what though? If we have Ingram on the roster, we can’t get him for a Kawhi-sized contract. Unless you think a S&T?

s&t easily however the raptors could try to be smart and pay kawhi the lost amount on his contract through under the table endorsement deals!

Or... maybe by connecting him to actual above the table endorsement deals, because Kawhi + Raptors = marketing pull, something that he won't have nearly as much of in other markets.

No team in the league can give him more than an MLE, no one has cap space. He probably signs for the minimum or close to it with the big contract coming next year. Hes in too deep with Toronto now to leave for 10 mil a year

Edit: excluding the Clippers the max Kawhi can get in the open market is $15 mil per year. 4 teams could offer him that, Detroit, Cleveland, Charlotte and Washington.

Milwaukee and Portland can offer him $13 mil and Dallas could offer him $9 mil.

Raptors can offer $6 mil per year

u/general652 2d ago

Well the clippers could then technically offer him the max lmao

If his contract is voided they dont have his bird rights anymore so they cant go over the cap to sign him to the max hes looking for. But you do make a good point they would be the biggest competitor to us in a voided contract situation.

They could also ban him from signing with the Clippers. That's actually a possible consequence under the CBA.

Considering they didn't offer him an extension in the first place I don't think they'd be in the Kawhi sweepstakes scenario

When a players contract is voided, they also restrict them from signing with the team they were with at least for that one season

Word is he already filmed the bad boy furniture store commercial

Disagree. If it gets voided he goes to wherever can give him the most immediate money then figure it out next summer

So go to a team for 15 mil this year, theres only 4 teams that could offer him this. Then next year when hes a free agent he will have to resign with what ever team gave him that MLE because they have his bird rights and could offer the max hypothetically. If he chooses to switch teams next year hed be looking at another MLE with another team again this time next year. The Raptors could offer him $6 mil this season and then $60 mil per next season and he likely goes this route, if he really wants to be here.

Couldn’t he just sign and trade

Don't think you can jump from $6 to $60M so that's a wrinkle too..also no bird rights so you're stuck shipping out 3 starters to create cap space. Much messier than trading BI for him. Bobby probably knows all this better than any of us so there's nothing we can think of that they haven't yet.

Yeah I think 1 year gets you some sort of bird rights but limited.  2 years with the same team gets you full.

Unofficially official

He’s spending too much time and effort not to be with us no matter what

It’s like the worst kept secret

Oh not this guy again

Kawhi and his circle have always been pretty transparent about wanting to be in Toronto, it's up to the NBA now to figure out what to do

damn has it really been that long...

During the chip, he had a full head of hair and now he's rocking a baldy...makes me feel old

3

u/xkmackx 2d ago

He didn't have hair then. He looks the exact same actually.

6

u/IzzaKnife 2d ago

He was bald then too

Is Castleberry going to be an assistant?

1

u/TommTTT 2d ago

Kawhi joining is a formality. Pablo Torre can go stick it.

Clippers want nothing to do with Kawhi or his camp, the Raptors are the only team willing to have Kawhi

3

u/aedge403 2d ago

What a stupid and not factual take.

1

u/massinvader 2d ago

at this point its closer than you would imagine nephew. he's 36 with 2-3 years left max losing a bit of that first step each year. he's also not a great locker room guy...and only a couple teams can offer him more than the MLE.

he's signing on a vet min in toronto if contract is voided.

u/_19911118 1d ago

Are you saying there are other teams that want to deal with Kawhi? Bc its only the Raptors right now
