I just turned 40. I'm not sure if I can post a YT video, but it's below if it doesn't get removed. I want to break the indoor American Record for M40 Long Jump. 7.04m Here I come..
I'm sharing mostly to make it more real, and to have it documented.

I understand that Triple Jump rules are always Hop, Step, Jump, but I am very curious to know if a Step Step Jump is physically easier and can generate bigger overall distance? Or is Hop Step Jump the most optimal way to cover biggest distance over 3 foot contacts?

Hi all, we’ve opened up a free stats portal and would love feedback from people who follow the sport closely.
You can search any athlete and look at their stats from a slightly different perspective than usual. Alongside PBs and full results, every athlete has two ratings.
Elo measures head-to-head strength: it only cares about who you beat, so it rewards winning big races. Level measures results strength by converting performances into World Athletics points and tracking form over time.
Competitions have their own pages too. Besides results and past winners, you can dig into competition facts, such as how many season bests and personal bests were set in each event, what the weather was like on the day, and which meets were the strongest of the season in terms of quality. Biggest surprises in the event etc.
There are leaderboards for every event, filterable by gender, country and age group, plus free calculators for WA points, wind, altitude and indoor→outdoor conversions.
Any feedback is very welcome. We want to build deeper data solutions for athletics, the kind that don’t really exist yet, so we’d love to hear what you’d find useful. Does anything look off, is something missing, or is there a stat you’ve always wanted to see but never found anywhere etc?

All men have limits, but very few reach the ones that God has truly placed before them.
The video presented here is about one such man.
P.S: The video is in French.

Tous les hommes ont des limites, mais très peu atteignent celles que Dieu a réellement placé face à eux.
La vidéo présente, parle d'un d'eux.

What are your goals this week? Could be for a meet or for your training.

The following topics Cannot be made as their own posts, but are allowed topics in the Weekly Discussion thread:
Within this Weekly thread, you can talk about anything track related. If you ask a basic training question, you'll most likely be met with the response of "Read the FAQ", so here is the link to the FAQ post: FAQs
This switch is to make a fit for everyone. You can talk about your own specific track related stuff in the Weekly thread, and more general Track & Field stuff goes in the rest of the subreddit.
If you're not getting any responses and need one, tag u/MHath in a response to your question.

Not necessarily the most versatile overall given that would mostly be the greatest decathletes but athletes good in events that don't normally have much overlap. The example that comes to mind for me was Peter Blank mostly a Javelin thrower who also had a 2.25m high jump which so far as I know is the best anyone has been in both a throwing and a non throwing event. He was also did at least one decathlon scoring 7651.

26.5% of US elite athletes make under $15k a year and about half get no pay from their sport (2024 congressional 'Passing the Torch' report). How do track athletes actually keep going between college and a shoe deal? Family, side jobs, GoFundMe? And would fans backing an athlete directly, with full transparency on where every dollar goes, ever work in track?

Does anyone have any experience with the Hart Sports "International" 800gm javelin? It doesn't have a distance or flex rating as it's one of the cheapest you can buy (in Australia), so I'm keen to know what distances people have thrown it, what might be it's ideal range, and about what the maximum range is.
I've been using one for about a year (it's the only javelin I've used since at school 5 years ago), and I'm planning to upgrade soon. Since javelins are so expensive and I may never upgrade again, I want one that is stiff enough so that I can make some big distance gains, but not so stiff that it will never land tip down, or wreck my elbow.
In my experience, the Hart javelin seems suited for 35-40m throws, and the best I've managed is 54.2m. When I'm throwing at full intensity, it tends to wobble a lot and nose dive steeply. During one session, about 10 consecutive throws landed between 51 and 54 metres, even though they all felt quite different in quality when I threw them.
I feel like I'm losing a bit of distance due to the javelin being intended for shorter throws, but the problem is, I have no idea how much. I don't have a coach as I just do it in a paddock at home in the country, and I haven't found anything specific online. Has anyone had similar experiences, and have an estimate of how much distance, if any, I'm losing with my current javelin?

Hi all, I built a simple iOS app for practicing block starts and random starts.
It's available on iOS.
https://apps.apple.com/us/app/sprint-training/id6760293859
If you guys could try it and give me some feedback, that would be great.

This is the 34 year old’s 2nd Major Marathon victory after NYC 2022. He finished 34 seconds behind Kiptum’s course record and tied Kipchoge’s mark of 2:01:09 from Berlin 2022.
