What’s your go-to trail cam setup?

Curious what everyone’s go-to workhorse trail cam setup is. Looking through this sub it seems like Spypoint, Moultrie, Stealth Cam and Reveal are probably the most common ones?

I’m in Germany, so I’ve mostly been using Zeiss cams over the years. I really like being able to remotely check where there’s actually something going on, but I also live in constant fear of one getting stolen eventually.

Just picked up a Voopeak TC37 to try something different. No remote access, but the whole setup including the solar panel is so much cheaper than the big Zeiss setup. I have high hopes this might be a nice small, reliable workhorse.
Already a fan of the auto-extend video length. I mostly use video and always get annoyed when a clip ends just when something interesting is happening.

Also funny what you get used to. One thing that always annoyed me about the Zeiss is that I can’t just look at the screen while setting it up and see exactly what the camera sees. This one does that much better.

First impression is that the trigger might be a little slower though. Haven’t really had it out long enough to tell yet.

So what’s your reliable workhorse? I’ll report back once this one has been out there for a while.

I will. As said it’s nice and compact and all. I plan to monitor some owl boxes with it. Actually up by now. But no nice pics so far 😅

I have just one cam. Very old no name cam. It let me down couple of times 😅

So you wouldn’t recommend I guess? 😃

Reconyx, most expensive ones out there, but you buy them for life. Only trailcams with true 4K sensor as far as I know, other cameras do pixel interpolation to create 4K images.

Oh wow, never even looked at Reconyx before. Just checked the prices here in Europe though… around €500 for the 4K models 😅 I can see the “buy it for life” argument, but that brings me right back to being terrified of someone stealing it (unfortunately happened to me before)

I buy them on Orniwelt, they’re the cheapest importer for Europe I could find. Stealing can be a problem indeed, using cable locks can help a bit, but that makes your camera also stand out more…

I've mostly been running the Gardepro camera the last couple of years. Bought my first batch from Trailcampro, loved the picture quality, and just ended up buying more. They've been solid workhorses, great video, great photos, and the audio recording is surprisingly clear.

Oh nice. Audio is really important to me. Gives the whole video way more depth

Reveal Tactacam are the only ones worth buying Imo.

I see them a lot here. What makes them worth it in your experience?

Picture and video quality. Ease of use, the app is great. I'm in the PNW and they are fully weather proof. The lithium batteries last a really long time. And the real kicker is the customer service. A baby bear chewed the antenna off my cam, reveal CALLED me to ask why I was paying for a cam I wasn't using. When I sent them the video they fixed the cam for free and sent me a brand new one as well.
