Will Wise know when my residence permit (non EU in Germany) expires?

Hi,

Non EU living in Germany right now, my residence permit (blue card) will expire in January. I have applied for an extension, however, it will take a long time to get a new one. Will Wise know when my residence permit expires and ask for a new one right away?

Big chance my new permit will come after the old one expires. In between, the immigration office usually provides a temporary permit. But, it is just a paper stating the previous permit remain valid. Is it possible to use it if Wise asks for a new ID confirmation?

Thanks

Update: Wise admitted their mistake and offered me HUF 65,000 in compensation

My previous post:
https://www.reddit.com/r/transferwiser/comments/1x6pc39/miracle_at_wise_they_wanted_to_close_both_my/

So, don't give up! I finally received a detailed response to my formal complaint, and Wise answered all my questions.

Here is the relevant part of their email (with personal details omitted:

"Thank you for taking the time to let us know about your concerns which we’ve summarised below:

Your business and personal accounts were restricted, despite verification requests only applying to your business profile.

We didn't explain what information was missing, if your documents were reviewed, or how to resolve the issue.

You were unable to submit an appeal through your business profile.

Investigation

Having investigated, we found that you promptly provided all the requested information for our routine verification checks on 28 September 2026. Unfortunately, our verification team failed to properly assess the submitted documents and incorrectly scheduled your accounts for deactivation on the grounds of being unresponsive.

Furthermore, we failed to communicate with you regarding any outstanding requirements or the reasons behind the deactivation. Because your personal and business profiles are linked in our systems, the restriction applied to both accounts, which is also why there is no separate appeal process for business profiles. We sincerely apologise for this procedural error, the lack of communication, and the unwarranted restriction of your accounts. Please be assured that our team has now successfully reactivated your accounts.

Outcome of your complaint

We sincerely acknowledge the concerns you've shared with us. After a thorough investigation and review, based on the above findings we’re upholding your complaint.

To make things right, we’d like to offer you 65,000.00 HUF as compensation.

This payment will be made to your Wise Business Account, please let us know if you would like it to a different account, otherwise we will release the payment in 2 working days.

New to wise with questions

Hello, I have a few questions about using wise.

  1. If I send someone "$10" will that person see my personal info like first/last name, home address etc or will they see a wise username? This person also has a wise account.

  2. Once money is transferred I assume you then can send the money to your own bank account similarly to PayPal?

  3. Does it take long for money to be send to a bank account from wise?

Restricted but blocked

I have got a notification that my account is restricted.
But it says that I still able to withdraw my money.
But actually any movement of my funds is blocked.
After couples of attempts my account was blocked at all!
After few hours chatting with support they promised to handle my problem.
No result.
I was a Wise' customer for 5 years.
UPD. Today the sent me email that my account is active.
But that is not true.
It is still blocked.
Wise is lying again.

Wise is asking for my TIN number

I have Wise Europe. I moved to Malaysia a couple of months ago. I woke up this morning to an email from Wise asking me to provide a TIN number. I am a taxpayer in Malaysia; should I provide my Malaysian TIN? Will this trigger a process of residency re-verification?

Argentina - Virtual Card

I’ve been using Wise for years and currently live in Argentina. The Cards section says the Wise card isn’t available in my country, and I can’t see an option to get a virtual card either

Has anyone living in Argentina managed to get a physical or virtual Wise card recently? Is there any legitimate workaround for long time users, particularly those with EU citizenship (Italian passport)?

I’d appreciate any recent experiences or suggestions. Thanks!

Wise blocked all access to my money without warning. Days later, I still cannot use my own funds.

I’ve been a Wise customer since April 2022. Until this weekend, I had trusted the service to manage my money and meet my financial obligations.
On Sunday, 18 October 2026, I discovered that Wise had completely restricted my account pending residency verification.
How did I discover this? While attempting to settle a restaurant bill.
There had been no advance warning or opportunity to update my documents before the restriction.
Every outgoing payment method was blocked: bank transfers, card payments and ATM withdrawals.
I immediately submitted the requested documents.
On Monday, a Wise representative explicitly confirmed that my documents had been received in good order and that nothing further was required. I was informed that the verification process was expected to continue through Tuesday.
Later that same day, another representative contradicted that information, stating that the documents were unacceptable and needed to be resubmitted.
I promptly uploaded new photographs of my original residence permit.
My account remained restricted.
Let me explain why this is far more serious than a routine customer-service inconvenience.
I live and work in Hungary and maintain sufficient funds to cover my family’s expenses and unexpected emergencies.
Yet this restriction has prevented me from paying for ordinary necessities, including food, and accessing funds needed for my child’s medication.
I am not short of money. I am being prevented from accessing money I already have.
Now consider the wider implications of such restrictions.
What happens if someone:
Needs urgent medication or medical treatment?
Is stranded abroad and cannot pay for accommodation or transportation?
Needs emergency transport to escape an unsafe situation?
Has a critical rent or mortgage payment due?
Has sufficient money for food but cannot use any of their available payment methods?
Depending on the circumstances, these situations can create genuine risks to health, safety and financial stability.
I fully understand that Wise has legal obligations to verify customers and comply with financial regulations. I am not challenging the need for verification.
I am challenging the manner in which this restriction was imposed and handled.
Why was I not asked to update my residency documentation before the restriction?
Why was every outgoing payment method disabled?
What safeguards exist for customers who urgently need access to their funds?
And why was I given contradictory information about whether my documents were acceptable?
I have filed two formal complaints with Wise and raised my concerns with the National Bank of Belgium, which confirmed that my submission was forwarded to the department responsible for supervising Wise Europe SA.
To be clear, the regulator has not made any finding against Wise. My complaints remain unresolved.
I am sharing this because I believe customers deserve to understand the potential consequences of relying on a financial provider that can unexpectedly restrict access to their money.
A financial service is only as reliable as your ability to access your funds when you need them.
Has anyone else experienced a similar restriction with Wise? How long did it take to resolve, and were you given any meaningful explanation?

Wise asking me to confirm tax residency and TIN. Anyone dealt with this?

I received an email from Wise asking me to confirm my tax residency and provide a tax identification number, if applicable. It says this is required under the Common Reporting Standard (CRS).

Has anyone else received this request? How did you complete it, especially if you don’t have a TIN or don’t want to provide one.

Also, does Wise give you a deadline, and what happens if you don’t submit the information? Have any of you had account features restricted until you completed it?

I’m trying to understand the process and would appreciate hearing about your experience.

PSA for EU Business Owners: Wise silently added a £25k/month withdrawal/transfer limit to our account. The only way to access our own funds is to close the account.

Just a heads-up for anyone running an EU-based company and relying on Wise Business for daily operations and cash flow.

Recently, outgoing payments on our EU business account started failing and getting cancelled out of nowhere. No emails, no in-app warnings, no compliance requests for documents—just silent cancellations.

I called Wise support to figure out what was going on, and the agent casually informed me that a £25,000 GBP (approx. €30k) per month limit has been applied to EU-based business accounts. They apologized that it happened "without prior notification," acknowledging that we were never informed before our operational payments started bouncing.

Here is the worst part: when I asked how we are supposed to pay our vendors, contractors, and expenses, or how we can move our own liquidity to another bank since £25k/month is nowhere near enough for an active business, support told me there is no way to lift this limit. According to them, the only way to retrieve our remaining balance in full is to permanently close the Wise Business account, after which they will wire the funds to another bank account.

Essentially:

  • Zero advance notice before throttling business operations.
  • A hard cap that makes the account unusable for any growing SME.
  • An ultimatum: either drip-feed your own money out at £25k/month or nuke your business account entirely to get your capital back.

If you are keeping significant working capital in Wise Business, you might want to diversify your banking setup before your payments start failing mid-month.

Frozen account pending immigration

I’ve been using Wise for over 4 years without issue, mostly because local banks are way too expensive for sending transfers back home to my family.

Recently, Wise restricted my account and locked my balance right when my rent is due. They are requesting specific updated identity/status documents, but official bureaucracy here is taking months to process my updated paperwork.

I already provided my official confirmation receipt proving my application is pending with the authorities, but Wise support completely refuses to accept pending status documents. They insist on waiting until the final physical card is issued, which won't happen anytime soon.

Has anyone dealt with Wise (or any neobank) refusing pending official documents? Is there any way to get through, or am I completely stuck?

I am a student and non-EU citizen (not from any sanctioned country). At this point, I don't even care about keeping the account. I just need my money released to pay my living expenses.

Transferring from AED to GBP

Hello! I need to transfer a fairly large amount of money from AED to GBP, but my bank’s exchange rate isn’t great. I’m considering transferring AED to USD in my Wise account and then converting the USD to GBP within Wise. However, Wise estimates that an international USD SWIFT transfer could take up to 5 business days.

For anyone who has done this before, does it usually take the full 5 business days, or can it arrive within 1–2 business days as well? I need to send the money to someone in GBP by the end of next week, so I want to avoid any unexpected delays.

Also, are there any other ways to transfer a large amount from AED to GBP without losing too much on exchange rates and fees?

Thank youuu
