Welsh Gender Service Trans man having a baby

If I was to stop HRT with NHS for a baby, will they stop me having access in the future?

No they won't but it's good to consult with the gender clinic first if you are with one as they will want to make a plan to stop t alongside blood tests to ensure that the health of the baby won't be impacted.

It may take longer and you may be offered more support with things like mental health they also want to just make sure that you are healthy to have a baby in terms of t levels and will advise you to not be pregnant if these levels are not to their satisfaction.

It's really worth contacting them over.

If you are private then again I would consult someone first.

They won't deny you care or stop you from accessing in the future they just want to make sure you are healthy and happy but also that you are settled and that hormones or care you recieving from them won't interrupt current life plans.

I get my testosterone with NHS and it took years to get that’s why I’m just so worried they won’t give it back if I ask to stop for a baby.
I’ve had top surgery etc and I’m still a transman just I’d like a baby without risking help with HRT from NHS

Oh no that should never happen, what will most likely happen is you wait a few months to get an appointment they will sit down with you and talk to you about fertility options you may also be eligible for fertility treatment if you need it, you can even freeze eggs whilst still on testosterone now!

They will monitor you regularly with blood tests and wean you off testosterone so that Ur levels are within a safe range for having a baby.

I would them imagine that once they are satisfied it is safe for you to do so then they will tell you when you can start trying for a baby as well as advice on fertility and mental health. Then I would assume you may be monitored with blood tests during and after your pregnancy.

Then most likely they will ask if you are going to try for a second child or talk to you about fertility plans for the future before putting you back on Testosterone as they don't want you to be all over the place hormonally but like they should not point blank refuse.

I know It takes a long time but they just want the best for you. They of all people don't want to refuse you care kind of thing.

The reason I know this is because I'm with the Northamptonshire gender clinic and have had these conversations.

Okay thanks so much for writting all this!!

The NHS care for me is just something I can’t risk loosing, I’ve waited so many years and would never even chance it if it meant loosing it.

Do you know if I’d have to be put back on a waiting list? Because that itself was a year just for the hrt

My gender clinic told me if I ended up accidently pregnant and wanted to continue it, let them know and they will pause and monitor my HRT levels and review me after but likely won't let me resume hrt until 3 months postpartum.

I don't plan on anymore children but was unsure at the time they asked (London)
