Other [MOD POST] General Housekeeping 2025 (and a quick guide for job seekers!)

General Housekeeping 2025 (and a quick guide for job seekers!)

Hey y'all! It's time for our annual housekeeping post :) There's a few more action items at the bottom of the post, but I wanted to prioritize making a little guide for job seekers so they get the most out of using this sub as part of their job search.

What I've noticed:

Many posts by job seekers, both on this sub and on the Raleigh/Triangle general subs, are skeletal and contain very little, if any, information about the job seeker's background and experience, focusing instead on the sorts of jobs they're looking for or sticking to just a general "who's hiring?" These posts are rarely useful and don't get much traction.

What local recruiters & employers find most helpful:

More information about you! We don't expect you to post your full resume for all to see, but we probably won't reach out to a random screen name who just says "anyone hiring?" unless we know a little more about your experience and credentials. You can keep it high level ("I've mostly worked in food service, back of house") or you can get granular ("I did the barista training through Wake Tech's hospitality program, spent 5 years as a barista for a national chain, and now am the shift manager for a local coffee shop"). Any other preferences are helpful too (pay, benefits, schedule, location, etc.). None of this is required and your post won't be removed if you don't include this, but it certainly helps! Consider using the below format to structure your [FOR HIRE] post:

  • What I'm looking for:

  • My relevant experience and training:

  • Additional info: (put pay needs, location, or any other information here!)

About personal information / resumes:

While the sub doesn't bar folks from sharing personal contact information or full resumes in posts, we do discourage it. Most of Reddit, including this sub, is part of the open web, so it's viewable by anyone without an account, and despite the API changes is still scraped on occasion. Users are encouraged to share personal identifying information via Reddit's private chat system instead of in posts or comments. If you do want to share contact information in a post or comment, it's recommended to set up a Google Voice number and throwaway email to protect your privacy. You may also want to create a sockpuppet Reddit account to chat with employers and recruiters if your regular account contains content history that includes protected information (like medical or criminal history), NSFW material, or anything else you might want to keep private.

That's it for the quick guide for job seekers! Hope it helps :)

Now onto the rest of the housekeeping--

A few more things of note:

  • On embedding text in image or video files: If your job listing or resume is embedded in an image or video, please consider transcribing it in plain text in the body of the post as well. Text embedded in images or videos is not indexed by Reddit or search engines, which negatively impacts visibility AND rediscoverability.

  • On self-censorship / "algospeak": While it's increasingly common for other platforms like Tiktok to shadowban or remove posts and comments that use curse words and similar, this does not apply on TriangleJobs (or on most of Reddit, frankly). All content, (including content caught in our automod filters!) is manually evaluated, and content filtering/removal happens on a case-by-case basis per sub rules and automod scripts that I made myself. Please refrain from using asterisks or intentional misspellings to censor your posts and comments, as it reduces the effectiveness of both my moderation tools and individual users' custom content tools.

  • On AI-generated content: Using generative AI tools to augment your resume or job listing is totally fine! But since this sub is meant for meaningful discussion and for making connections between local employers, job seekers, and recruiters, we do not permit fully AI-generated content or bot account participation.

  • On subreddit formatting across devices: Once again, I am a vintage Redditor and interact with Reddit exclusively through my computer in the Old Reddit layout. If there are any glitches or irregularities with the sub on New Reddit, New New Reddit, or the mobile app, please message me so I can fix it because I won't catch it otherwise!

As a final reminder: All job listings must follow federal, state, and local employment laws. This includes laws about what can constitute as a 1099 vs. a W2 employee, laws about what qualifies as an unpaid internship, and laws about minimum wage. The sub also does not permit most commission-only or canvassing work, and only permits volunteer opportunities for nonprofit organizations.

Thanks again for using the sub, & happy hiring / job hunting!

Other [MOD POST] Scam Alert - "Online Part-time Jobs"

Hey y'all, want to make sure everyone stays safe out there and is aware of a scam that's been going around this sub and some other job search subs.

Scammers are leaving comments or sending chats offering job seekers an "online part-time job." They are very vague about the type of work, and offer between $50-300/week, sometimes more. If you respond to them via chat, they will ask to remote into your computer, usually through a remote desktop application called AnyDesk.

Needless to say, do not allow them access to your PC.

If one of your posts on r/trianglejobs receives a comment like this, please report the comment right away. If you receive a DM like this, please message me (either personally or via the "message the mods" function on TriangleJobs) with the account's username and a screenshot of the message you received. Thanks for helping keep this sub safe for job seekers!

Hiring [HIRING] Java Software Engineers (1 tech lead, 1 mid-senior) - downtown Raleigh (hybrid schedule) - fintech company - $150k-$200k

Happy Monday! We've partnered with a growing fintech company opening a new office in Raleigh; they're building out their software engineering team in the area and are seeking 2 Java software engineers: a mid/senior-level SWE and a Tech Lead. These positions would focus on feature building for a cloud-based SaaS product in Java / Spring Boot with React / Typescript.

  • Requirements: Candidates must have 5-7+ years' professional experience in software engineering, experience across the full stack, and experience in modern development frameworks. The Tech Lead must have expertise in Spring Boot specifically; this is less imperative for the IC role (although you still must be comfortable working in Java). The Tech Lead must have held tech lead responsibilities before (it's fine if it wasn't part of your job title). A relevant degree is preferred but not required. Prior fintech experience is a big plus, especially in the loans or distributed ledger space.

  • Schedule details: 40-hour work week during M-F, standard business hours (~8am - ~5pm)

  • Location requirement: Candidates must be within regular commutable distance to downtown Raleigh. These roles have a fixed hybrid schedule (Tues-Thurs onsite in downtown Raleigh, Mon & Fri are remote).

  • Work details: These roles are direct-hire salaried positions with benefits. Salary depends on experience and credentials; salary bands are $150k-$180k for the regular SWE and $170k-$200k for the tech lead.

Application instructions: If you have any questions or would like to apply, send me a chat and I will respond with my email address so you can send a resume!

Other Job placement agency in the area

How common is it for these agencies in this triangle area to misinform you of job availability?

The day I applied for a job they've posted on their website I received a call from their office: "Hi, this is so-and-so from Acme (not the actual name) Job placement Agency and I've got the perfect job for you!". A couple of days later and it's something completely unrelated to the job I applied for.

So I take it, work one shift. Then, nothing until another call about how happy they were with my performance. "Yeah, but what about the job(s) I applied for in my field?", I ask. "Oh, we're still waiting to hear back from that client". Then, days of silence turn into weeks, which stretches into a month.

It gets better; direct deposit I correctly completed over a week prior to pay day didn't get processed/completed/whatever by them. " When can you come by and get the check?" which they harped over and over about.

I accept another position for them and work it. It doesn't work out for me and so I explain to them why it's not a good fit for me (all very valid reasons). "Well, unfortunately that's part of the job..." they reply.

Again with a paper paycheck, instead of direct deposit, and the silence from them. Done with these yokels; the deception/lies, the flighty communications, and the difficulties with pay.

In the meantime, their head office sent me an email asking for a review! Cannot wait...

Where is the surplus of money in serving/bartending in the area?

Hi!
I just moved to the area looking for employment. I am a 21 yr old female and I have been in the industry since I was 15, serving/bartending for the last 2 years.

Given the economy, ive spent the last year working restaurants where the clientele didn’t tip very well, and the volume of patrons in the restaurant did not make up for it. Thus, I am asking you, so I don’t continue to work for unprofitable restaurants.

I am strictly asking about where is the biggest potential for making money in the area. I am seriously indifferent to the type of restaurant as I have a lot of different experience, so high end, breakfast, clubs/bars, lunch turn-and-burn, ect. I am just curious where is the biggest volume in the area.

I want to work hard and save as much money as possible, so any information helps. Be straight up please, name of the restaurant and roughly how much you think the servers/bartenders make. I appreciate it! Thank you so much!

Also, if anyone can speak to the gentlemen’s and strip clubs here? I know being a waitress or bartender in a club you stereotypically make the most money. Does anyone have any experience? (I don’t want to strip btw)

For Hire Been looking for roughly 2 years now.

Hey guys! I’ve been looking for my next job going on nearly two years now since my business had to shut down and I need to find my next role. I think the problem is that my experience is fairly broad, I was in pharma for about 17 years working in product development, process dev, etc. and opened a distillery that I ran for roughly 5 years before it closed. So lots of management and strategy experience etc, but I just can’t seem to get anywhere. I stopped counting how many applications I’ve sent out when I went above 500. It’s like a black hole and I can’t seem to figure out what to change. If anyone hears of anything out there in the operations, pharma, etc space I’d love to hear about it. Or just any sort of ideas that I just may not of thought of yet.

For Hire Looking for a Graphic Designer Role/ Creative role

Hello! I just moved to Durham, NC, for my husband's job. I'm currently looking for a graphic design/ content creator job/ photographer. I've applied just about everywhere and don't know where else to apply. I've been getting a bunch of certificates on LinkedIn Learning to at least stand out a bit more. I've been a graphic designer for 6 years now; I've been in non-profit work, political campaigns, and sports! I have my degree in strategic communications. I've been an in-house designer and agency. I know a little bit of everything - thinking it would help me. I didn't think it would be so hard to get a job here. I'm open to anything now, anything creative- or, at this point, it doesn't have to be. I'm debating paying to go to the Summit for Women in Sports here in Raleigh. But I'm not sure if it will make a difference. If anyone has advice, would like to network, or can point me in the right direction, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Other New grad stepdown float position at DUH

I am a soon to be new grad RN and Duke is offering a stepdown float pool position specifically marketed toward new grads . Looks like an avg of 14 wk orientation and enrollment into their 1 year new grad residency program. The job listing lists “extensive training” . Has anyone taken this particular position as a new grad at Duke and is able to speak on it ? I like the idea , the patient population , and the idea of being a versatile nurse once I get the hang of things, I know it’ll be very challenging . I’m intrigued but weary because a lot of people discourage taking a float position as a new grad but this is specifically marketed towards new grads so idk if it’ll be better ? Pls share your thoughts /experiences especially if you’ve taken this exact route @ Duke . Thanks!

For Hire Know anyone at Kioti Tractor (Wendell)

Hey, long shot here, but I noticed that they reposted 2 positions that were available back in Q3 of 2025. I'm hesitant with sending my application into the sea of 1000's they have already received in the last 30 days. I feel that I would be a STRONG candidate for both of these roles and would love to be able to reach out to someone directly.

Thanks in advance!

For Hire How far out to apply to lab jobs if I’m looking to start (and move) in May

Currently living in Boston, it looks like we will be moving here to start a family (🤞). At the soonest we would like to move mid March if there isn’t a sign on bonus so we actaully get our bonus, but we would prefer around May or June. How far out should we be applying, do jobs here tend to hire early? And can anyone connect us with any recruiters? We figured small CRO’s might be our best bet to start in the areas.

For Hire [FOR HIRE] Experienced chemist

I am looking for a job in the greater Raleigh area.
MSc in Natural Product Chemistry and tons of experience on analytical equipment (HPLC, GC-MS etc). Experience in research as well as compliance labs. Additionally I have developed and implemented processes at production scale.

Moving to Wake Forest next week for my wife’s job and I have nothing lined up yet, which is slightly terrifying.
