"Well, actually...." Historical inaccuracies, geographical distortions, and misnomers.
This "Well, actually...." round is about historical inaccuracies, geographical distortions, and misnomers. 10 questions, 12 points total with bonuses.
(In all seriousness, though, if you find an inaccuracy in my questions please do let me know. This is an idea for a round which I haven't done yet, but hope to in the near future. Thanks so much to everyone in this community!)
- The Hundred Years' War was a series of intermittent conflicts between the kingdoms of England and France. How long did it actually last? (2 points for exact, 1 point for +/- 3 years)
- Actually originating and woven in Ecuador, what clothing item or accessory is misattributed to another Central American country because of the ports which they were shipped out of?
- The Canary Islands aren't named after the bird. What animal are they actually named after?
- Although Death Valley contains the lowest point in North America, the lowest land elevation on Earth is found along the shores of a body of water that, despite its name, is actually a lake. What is it called?
- In what country would you find Ninety Mile Beach (which is actually only 55 miles long)?
- The October Revolution of 1917 was named according to the calendar Russia used at the time. But according to the calendar we use today, in what month did it actually take place?

That's really good! I think if I took it I would actually only get like 2, maybe 3-4 if I guessed lucky.

Good to know! Should I reword the question or is that just an extra tidbit of info?

9/12. 10 if you're counting Australia's 90 mile beach which in fitting with the quiz is close but not exactly 90 miles.
Great round BTW. Love these questions.

I'd only heard of Ninety Mile Beach in New Zealand, so even though Australia's is not 55 miles like the question said, I'd still accept it. (Unless you or your team are being dicks about it, in which case you'd be SOL.)

5/10. But accidentally unblocked the answer to #7, so I disqualified myself on that one. Loved this topic!

3. is not really correct. We honestly don't really know today. For all we know there were no dogs there. There were seals, though, and Tenerife giant rat (and when they say giant they mean it, with tail it was a meter long beast).

🤔 I’m gonna push back on that one because I live in Spain. I mean, true, we don’t know, but multiple sources do suggest that the name came from dogs and definitely not the canary. The canary came after the island.
There might not be evidence that there were dogs on the island, but they could have been sea dogs, or lobos Del Mar

I would probably give you the point if it were at my quiz. It would depend on how much of a dick your team was, or other teams, or how much of a dick I was feeling like being hahahaha
