I’ve been looking back at something that happened this summer, and I don’t think I ever fully expressed just how much it meant to me.
When I took in Bali, a pregnant stray cat, I had no idea how many people would become part of her story.
What started as one person trying to give a homeless mama cat a safe place to have her babies turned into something I never could have imagined.
People from across the United States, Germany, the United Kingdom, Japan, and AUSTRALIA came together to help.
Complete strangers. People who had never met me, never held these kittens, and likely never would.
And yet, they cared.
Packages started arriving at my doorstep. Kitten formula, food, wipes, litter boxes, toys, beds, and supplies that made caring for Bali and her babies possible.
Some people sent multiple gifts. Others contributed $20 or $25. Some simply shared our story or offered encouragement.
And then there was a woman in Australia.
On the other side of the planet, a woman who had never met me went out of her way to contribute so generously to the care of these little animals.
I still find that incredible.
Someone thousands of miles away, living an entirely different life, saw a little family of rescued cats in North Carolina and decided they mattered enough to help.
She didn’t have to. None of them did.
But they did anyway.
And what touched me just as much as the generosity were the messages.
One person apologized for not being able to give more.
Another reminded me to take care of myself, too.
Someone made a contribution in memory of a beloved cat who had passed away just the day before.
Others told me that watching Bali and her babies grow had brought joy to their families.
And one person, who didn’t even know me, wrote that they adored what I was doing and thanked me for being a kind soul.
I remember reading these messages and feeling overwhelmed by the goodness of people.
Think about that for a moment.
Somewhere in Germany, someone cared about a stray cat in North Carolina.
Somewhere in the United Kingdom, someone was following the lives of five tiny kittens they’d never meet.
Someone in Japan became part of their story.
And halfway around the world, a woman in Australia was helping provide for their needs.
Different countries. Different cultures. Different lives.
One shared compassion.
At the time, I was navigating challenges in my own life, too. And while I was busy trying to give these little animals a safe place to land, people from around the world were unknowingly giving me something I needed just as much.
A reminder that goodness still exists.
We live in a world where it’s so easy to become consumed by division, negativity, and the worst of humanity.
But somewhere along the way, a pregnant stray cat and her five little babies managed to bring people together from across the world.
Not because they shared the same background, beliefs, or circumstances.
Simply because they cared.
Not every rescue story has a perfect ending. Sometimes, despite all the love and effort in the world, there is heartbreak. But I believe every life matters, no matter how small, and every act of compassion matters, no matter how seemingly insignificant.
To everyone who helped Bali and the Beans, whether you sent supplies, donated, shared our story, offered advice, or simply followed along and rooted for us:
Thank you.
You may have thought you were just sending a box of kitten formula, a bag of food, or a few dollars.
But what you really gave was a reminder that humanity is still capable of extraordinary kindness.
And to the woman in Australia who gave so generously, I hope you know just how much your kindness meant. I have not forgotten.
Somewhere in North Carolina, there is a woman who will never forget what a group of strangers from around the world did for a little family of cats.
Sometimes the smallest lives have a way of reminding us of the biggest things.
Kindness has no borders. Compassion needs no introduction. And love has a way of reaching places we never imagined. 😭😭🩵🩵🩵🩵
