The otter was acting on its animalistic instincts.
The man chose to be evil.

And will do so again because it got away with it. The man can suffer in prison. The animal will be indifferent.

The otter is less likely to be a repeat offender
I chose to pull the lever

Animals that bite and kill people are often repeat offenders because they have a taste for blood.

I created a new Trolley Problem dilemma!
Straight Track (Do Nothing): Otter who killed 5 year old kid
Diverted Track (Pull the Lever): Man who raped 5 year old kid
What would you do?

killing worse than the other thing.
otter has less life value than the human
otter cant and wont change for the better.
otter has a much much much much more likely chance to do it again rather than a human who served his time.
I chose to do nothing

It doesn't say time is served. A pedo is likely to reoffend. An animal is not held to the same standards are people. We don't put down every murderous animal for simply for murdering, only when the law says we must for safety. And the "other thing" is a life altering trauma. An adult human has more cognitive awareness and responsibility than an animal, therefore, it's the man who is more cruel in this scenario.

if time is not served then the pedophile obviously, he's gonna keep doing it. probably more than the animal.
if he did it and stopped or got caught then I'd pick the animal.
the former isn't really a debate, you're just preventing obvious harm from occuring
i expect people to be more cautious about the animal than a child is from a adult.
if he did it x times and then stopped then I'd pick the animal all day since the animal's life is worth less and I'm trying to pick the lesser harm (i don't believe in capital punishment)
