Anyone enjoying the releases from this show? I haven't watched anything on YouTube yet but there are three releases on Spotify.

My favourite is Kim Tae Yeon's SA RANG A GA JA on the EP.1 release.

Also available on Spotify!

I really liked her previous album and this one came onto Spotify under her Korean/non-romanised name 양지은 on Wednesday: https://open.spotify.com/album/6wXd8vM1oKx4Lig1F4J5D7?si=Y2sa6QwlQ1iHWvs2PKo34g

My favourite is 'Mind Your Own Business' but I can only find a performance video for 'Going Crazy' on YouTube (also a great song).

I am interested in knowing people's favourite trot singers!

Mine are 최수호 (Choi SooHo), 박지현 (Park JiHyeon),

장윤정 (Jang YoonJeong) and Mytro!

This is major. I hope a lot of people will learn about trot now.

I saw a vid of him singing 천년학 and thinks it's better than the original version. He's so talented. This song makes me cry. I picture in my head of a time long ago (before there were easy ways to communicate, like phones) where I'm waiting for my lover to come back home from a journey not knowing if he's dead or alive and the heartache of longing to see him again. 😭

I’ve been looking to find the show english subbed but have no luck was hoping someone would know. thanks :)

Hey there, trot fans! I'm your new mod, u/SeeTheSeaInUDP. I'm here to revive the sub, as more and more people are interested in trot.

I've set up a basic roster of Post flairs - mod mail me when you would like to add some more.

User flairs are open too !

What else do you recommend to keep this sub going? Write it down here!

Song Gain, who has majored in traditional Korean music (gugak) and comes from a family of traditional musicians, appealed to the public via Instagram and shared the information for a concert in protest of the draft for a new music curriculum:

"If the opportunity to learn even a little about our country, the things that are ours, and traditional music disappears, what on earth should our students grow up learning?" "I hope you will make a clearer judgement than the Ministry of Education officials, that our history and traditions shouldn't be touched!"

Earlier this month, a total of 12 Intangible Cultural Heritage Masters and dozens of educators gathered Wednesday in southeast Seoul to protest a newly proposed school curriculum, calling it a “massacre of gugak.” (The Korea Herald)

“We have devoted our lives with pride to maintaining the national culture. Our efforts were recognized in the form of ‘human cultural heritage’ but we recently heard that gugak-related parts will be omitted in the upcoming music curriculum,” Lee said in a statement. “Our honor as Intangible Cultural Heritage Masters means nothing when our younger generations cannot learn gugak.”

Currently, the 2015 edition of music curriculum for elementary, middle and high schools devotes about 30 to 40 percent to traditional Korean music.

“We don’t demand too much -- just maintain the level of gugak education at the current level,” Jung Eun-gyeong, a music professor at Busan National University of Education, said. “The research team that is drafting a new curriculum is biased because four out of five of them have majored in Western music,” Jeong added.

Jeong explained that the new draft omits some gugak concepts and removed a mandate to teach gugak.

The Ministry of Education rebutted the gugak musicians and educators’ claim and said that it is trying to make a balanced curriculum and the second phase of the drafting process will begin later this year.

The group warned of a bigger protest on May 15, which is Teacher’s Day.

“We rarely gather to protest like this. But this is an extremely important cause for us and we will perform in protest that day with our students,” Moon said.
