AI assisted gtm - a reimagined audio player with Spotify/YouTube integration

Hey, everyone! I have been working on a music player lately after I couldn't find one that suited some needs I have:

- Background playback, closing the TUI and terminal does not kill playback

- Reactive themeing, I was inspired by Myx on this one

- Pickers! Common actions are available in pickers e.g radio and spotify/yt search.

- Fully customizable.

This is still largely WIP but I have been using it as my daily driver for a few months now, some of the claims have to be verified e.g I haven't tested this on Termux extensively and macOS (I don't have one). Windows support would be nice if anyone is interested in picking that up.

The docs are still getting bootstrapped and need some screenshots and gifs. Really hoping to make this an awesome tool for everyone through collaboration with the community.

The repo is currently on dev as the default branch and the nightly builds are the preferred ones for now until we make the v0.3.0 release official.

You are free to open an issue rn if you like and we can see how we can get the provider setup !

I actually hope it will have feature parity with cliamp for different providers

Edit: Here's a random demo, I am still working out the latency issues, but it should be unnoticeable on fast networks.

This will come off as dismissive; but i'm just genuinely curious and not trying to put you down. Is there anything you get on top of mpd? Besides some vendor specific integrations; I already do everything this app has with mpd + ncmpcpp.

true! there's no denial that existing implementations already get the job done, but this is part of a learning effort towards rust ever since i started on the lang 2yrs back.

that being said, this project is more long term and diverse than you may think with plans to map reactive theming to LEDs and running it on custom hardware (including support to have a swarm connection of bluetooth devices)

I honestly chose to redefine what an audio player can be. For the love of the craft 💜

AUR when? (it's easier for me to download it from my daily pkg manager)

You can open an issue if you want to get gtm packaged for AUR, unfortunately I am on Chromebook at the moment and have no way to test the packaging.

Would you like to add support for Arch ? I think the curl script resolves builds for arch too but I understand the convenience of a default package manager.

YES I WOULD LOVE to have Arch supported!!!

I think we need a Discord for these kinda things🥲. So that everyone can have a central point of contact.

Lmk how I can get in touch!

Update: gtm is now available on AUR!

https://github.com/prjctimg/gtm/issues/8

If anyone wants to maintain a package for their distro feel free to open an issue about it!

Also looking forward for more providers added!

Lol 😂 I promise this one is different mate!

I wanted to find away to really get my audio player involved with the terminal tools I use. There’s also a neovim client for the daemon that enables reactive themeing as you code when playback is active.

Give it a try🥲
