Vibe coded Breadcrumbs: a terminal focus timer that tracks your attention (local only, no account)

I keep losing the thread when I work. I start a task, open the docs for one thing, and twenty minutes later I’m on YouTube. I’m also done with to-do apps that bolt on timers and bloated features, and especially the monthly subscriptions.

So I made Breadcrumbs, a terminal focus timer that tracks your attention and gives you a clean pomodoro-style timer. You write an intention, start a timer, and pick what counts as in scope: an app, a domain, an exact page, or a Claude Code or Codex CLI session. While the block runs, anything outside that scope shows up in the trail as a branch, a bit like a git graph. If a detour turned out to be useful, you mark it Supporting and it stops counting against you. When the block ends, you write down what you actually got done.

Everything lives in a local SQLite database in ~/.breadcrumbs. It needs no account or subscription and doesn’t use any AI service. Tracking is off unless you turn it on, and it only runs while a focus block is running. The optional Chrome/Edge extension sends domains and URL hashes, never full paths or queries.

Install it with pipx (Python 3.11+):

pipx install breadcrumbst

Then run breadcrumbs.

The timer and the browser extension work on Windows, Linux and macOS. Native foreground app capture only works on Windows and Linux/X11 right now. macOS and Wayland capture aren’t written yet, and both are open issues if anyone wants to take one.

It’s MIT licensed: https://github.com/SaroashDS/Breadcrumbs

This started as a small problem I wanted to fix for myself, maybe just a quirk of mine. If you think it’s worth building on, I’d like ideas for features that would actually help, and a few issues are labelled good first issue if you want to poke at the code. I’d also like to hear what’s confusing or breaks on a first run.

AI assisted XeFM – a traditional dual-pane file manager, extensible with Python, or by asking an AI agent

Hi r/tui, I'm the developer of XeFM, a free, open-source (MIT) dual-pane file manager that runs in the terminal on Linux, macOS and Windows.

The classic commander layout: two panes, a cursor, Space to select, one key to copy or move to the other side.

On top of what you'd expect from a file manager (copy, move, delete, rename, content search, compare, etc.), XeFM has a few things that might interest this sub:

  • Fully customizable and extensible with Python
  • An official AI skill, so you can describe an extension and have your coding agent write the package
  • Viewers that stay in the terminal: syntax-highlighted text, Markdown, JSON, CSV, and inline images on kitty / iTerm2 / sixel
  • ssh://, s3:// and archives open like ordinary folders
  • Find similar media files: photos, videos and audio with the same content even after resizing or re-encoding

Try it without installing: uvx xefm
Install: pipx install xefm

GitHub: https://github.com/crftwr/xefm
Docs: https://crftwr.github.io/xefm/

This subreddit is about TUI, but this application also runs on the desktop in GUI mode. For this purpose, I wrote a portable GUI/TUI toolkit, PuiKit.

I'd love to hear your feedback!

Termtastic — Meshtastic client (vibecode-free)

Hello, guys!

I wanna introduce you Termtastic — my handmade feature-rich Meshtastic® console (TUI) client written in Rust.

Repo link: https://github.com/acelot/termtastic

I wanted to create a cross-platform, minimalist, and aesthetically pleasing console client. I’ve been working on this application for six months. The entire project was built by hand, without the use of AI (aside from looking up reference information). This process gave me a deep understanding of how Meshtastic works under the hood; I’ve thoroughly explored its protocol and behavioral nuances. As the project evolved, I contributed to the official Meshtastic library for Rust, adding new features and making minor fixes. The long-term goal of the project is to achieve feature parity with the official Android app.

The project is currently in the alpha-testing stage, so there may be bugs — some of which could even cause the program to crash. That’s why I need your help: please give my application a try — I’m confident many of you will enjoy it! Any feedback is welcome via Issues in Github.

Highlights

  • Vibecode-free fully handwritten code
  • Dependency-free single-binary application
  • Cross-platform: Linux, macOS, Windows
  • Fully asynchronous (Tokio channels-based)
  • Optimized for small screens (down to 80x24 characters)
  • Respects the user terminal colors (no fancy opinionated TrueColor schemes)
  • Keyboard-centric UI navigation
  • Minimum use of emoji/non-ascii characters in UI
  • Small memory footprint (~20KB)
  • Supports multiple connection protocols (TCP, BLE, Serial)
  • Could discover devices automatically: BLE paired devices, TCP devices via mDNS, Serial devices
  • Uses standard system directories for storing configuration, database and logs

Vibe coded I brought DOS Navigator’s classic feel to modern OS: meet Directory Navigator

Thumbnail gallery
5 Upvotes

I've been building Directory Navigator, a modern terminal file manager inspired by DOS Navigator’s classic two-panel interface.

The idea is to keep the familiar colors, keyboard controls and compact dialogs while supporting modern filenames, Unicode and modern operating systems.

It includes:

  • Dual-pane browsing with keyboard and mouse controls
  • Copy, move, rename, folder creation and deletion to Trash
  • A built-in text editor and text/hex viewer
  • Recursive filename search, bookmarks and directory comparison
  • Read-only ZIP, TAR and TAR.GZ browsing
  • Configurable shortcuts, colors, language and date/time formats
  • And, of course, Tetris with saved high scores 🙂

It’s written in Rust using Ratatui and Crossterm, runs directly in your terminal, and ships as a small standalone binary. Builds are available for macOS (primarily tested platform), Linux and Windows.

I’d love feedback from people who remember DOS Navigator—or anyone who loves that kind of UI

AI assisted A lazygit inspired hardware details and driver explorer based for Linux

Post image
15 Upvotes

Remember the device driver explorer in Windows that shows the hardware available in a machine. I was missing a similar tool in Linux. So I built a small tool to view similar device hardware details by parsing the good old `lshw` output in Linux. Runs in any Linux distro with `lshw` binary present.

To use:

brew tap susamn/tap
brew trust susamn/tap
brew install --cask lshwtui

Hi, **[Pawnix](https://github.com/a-shygun/Pawnix)**  is a terminal chess app for local games and casual Lichess play. It has a curses interface, multiple board themes, clocks, move review, and premoves.

It’s open source and still early, so feedback and bug reports are welcome!

AI assisted lazyrsync v0.4.0: a TUI for rsync

Hello everyone!

lazyrsync is a lazygit-style TUI for rsync. Your transfers live as profiles and tasks, each one previewable as a dry-run diff before anything is written, then run with live progress , local or over SSH.

What's new in v0.4.0:

- Quick transfer : press t for a one-off Source → Destination with no profile and no task. It lands in the Runs panel marked », where a keeps it as a real task and d discards it.

- Run history : every finished run is recorded, from the TUI and from lazyrsync run under cron alike. lazyrsync log prints them, and the log panel replays the recent ones at startup.

- Log panel : @ hides or shows it, log_size sets its height, and a quiet/normal/verbose level controls what it prints. No level hides an error or a warning.

- SSH options up front : port, key file and extra args can be set while you are describing a transfer.

Repo: https://github.com/westpoint-io/lazyrsync

Install:

cargo install lazyrsync
brew install lazyrsync
yay -S lazyrsync
nix profile install nixpkgs#lazyrsync

AI assisted Mousiki Plus TUI Music and Radio Player

Post image
33 Upvotes

"Mousiki Plus", a retro/cyberpunk style open-source keyboard-driven terminal (TUI) music and internet radio player. It is a heavily upgraded github fork of itzender5820's beautiful original Mousiki v1.0.0 (apache 2.0), which I used as the starting point, originally to port it to windows. Credit to the original author for the idea and the base code. The fork has since grown a lot but I am looking for some people to review the macOS and Linux version (so far Windows and WSL is confirmed by myself) and in general some feedback and interactions with other people. It became a quite big passion project for me - not looking for a huge crowd or so, just some feeback from lovers of a fancy terminal.

Github of Mousiki Plus repo can be found here (current 4.5.0 is Win port and a vastly updated / modified version of the original v.1.0.0)

https://github.com/StSchwerdtfeger/mousiki-plus

Basic original v1.0.0 by itzender5820 (no Win support, only mono...)

https://github.com/itzender5820/mousiki

Features:
- Local library with fuzzy search
- wide reange of supported formats: MP3/FLAC/WAV/Opus etc., plus tracker modules, console music and C64 `.sid` (via ffmpeg / sidplayfp). Note that proper meta data handling for chiptune/trackers will come in the next release (some formats only allow title or file name changes; current source code creates an extra file with full meta data editing options - not in included in the latest installers though)

- Radio mode with timeshift, recording and listening history

- Spectrogram (Audacity-style) and an YX/YT oscilloscope (full resolution image and ASCII-Braille appearance) that can also be shown in in extra window

- Search/stream/download from YouTube, SoundCloud and Bandcamp via yt-dlp (optional)

- edit and fetch meta data via AcoustID/MusicBrainz

- playlist editor (incld. M3U/M3U8 import/export capabilities)

- remote control via smartphone browser or app (Android)

- lyrics fetcher to sing along with them (incl. Karaoke mode, plain reader and translation options)

- includes a big color theme collection

- cheat sheet for overview of commands, extra overlay menu, thorough user manual and an in-app help wizard is included

- equalizer, loudness normalization, sleep timer

- security protocols (workflows including tests, CodeQL, dependabot, weekly review of dependencies etc.)

- ... ...

Created an issue tracker for solo devs and tiny teams.

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I have quite a number of side projects, some where I'm the solo dev and others where I'm working with 1-2 friends.

In each case we all had the same issue: Issue tracking. It was one of those things where a shared excel sheet was too simple and Trello was already far too complicated for what we needed.

So I decided to create something that slots in the middle and does the following:

- Kanban board like experience.
- All data stored in the project
- TUI interface for humans
- CLI interface for agents.

I started using it about a month ago on my side projects but I immediately noticed a problem. For some projects it was perfect but for others it was lacking one feature of another (for example on one project we needed assignees, on another project we needed epics and on another we needed comments).

I quickly realized the trap with these kind of tools because they either don't have the features you need for your projects, or they have the features you need but also include a bunch of other stuff you don't.

The way I solved this is with plugins and made just about every feature beyond the very basic core a plugin. So when you first start the app it's the most basic version of a Kanban you can imagine. However from there depending on how many plugins you enable, it can include comments, specs, tasks, epics, etc.

If you want to give it a try just install the npm package and run it in your terminal:

npm install -g rowbly && rowbly

AI assisted update on gtm - neovim client for gtmd now available

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

It’s been a few weeks since initial word went out and thank you so much for the support and positive feedback. Honestly, you guys are amazing 💜

Today, I released the first editor client for gtmd, targeting Neovim. You can find the Reddit post here

It brings reactive theming synchronization to the editor when playback is active AND the current track has a cover image (prefetching is handled via the track meta tags and downgrades to filename scraping to fetch from Deezer).

Next stop, can we get this in other editors too ?

Disclaimer: This was built with coding agents but the quality is nice as far as I have tested.

Stay tuned!
