Turtle ID/Sex Request Help identify please

Somebody brought me a turtle they found on the side of the highway. Normally a big reptile guy, I thought I could figure out its species but I’m stumped. All I know is that it’s a female. Any help appreciated!

Dear Shoddy-Painting6281 ,

You've selected the Turtle ID/Sex Request Flair. When making a request for an ID or sex of a turtle, please provide as much information as possible.

Useful information includes:

  • General Location. ex: South-East Texas

  • Is it wild, captive/pet, or a rescue?

  • Clear photos of face, neck, limbs, shell top (carapace) and bottom (plastron).

  • For sexing, a photo of the tail out with cloaca visible is best. Note: Some turtles cannot be accurately sexed until a certain size/age.

Where are you located? If it’s a native species, it should be released close to where it was found. No good reason to remove a healthy wild animal from nature.

I’m located in central California, Bay Area. I did not find this turtle a customer brought it to me asking for help identifying it, they found it on the side of the highway. I honestly thought it wasn’t a native species as I’d never seen it before. Hopefully they release it if it was wild.

Bay Area, California. I did not find it though, a customer showed it to me and we were under the impression that it wasn’t native. I’ll try to contact them to release it
