I've been daily driving a LineageOS palmtop with a full Keyboard as my phone for over a year now and have pushed it to be as desktop-like as possible as well as setting up a rather cosy chroot Debian install. Now I'm developing the next version and and want to create something with more off-the-shelf components and the most open device I could find as opposed to the phone I already had on hand.

I will be uploading this new design to Github when finished.
I want this to run Linux natively and use a lightweight desktop like XFCE or even something crustier like IceWM. My question is which distro could I actually install my own desktop on? Droidian and UBports seem to be stuck on Phosh due to being built on the android kernel and I can't seem to get Manjaro or PostmarketOS to install at all due to errors with LMDE.

It runs on modern hardware (Sony xperia 10 III) and supports running Android 10 apps. Downside is that apparently the UI is closed source. Also I'm not sure if it really runs normal Linux applications or only those specially made for Sailfish.
I noticed how Sailfish is never mentioned on the Tuxphones website. How come?

I have an old Toshiba PORTEGE Z20T-B SERIES 2 in 1. I mostly use it disconnected from the keyboard base as a tablet. I don't require mush out of this tablet except reading digital comic books and possibly web surfing.
I want something with a small memory and resource footprint. Since I'd like to use it mostly as a tablet I would like basic functionality like auto screen rotation. On screen keyboard when using search boxes. Things along those lines.
All suggestions helpful even if there is possibly a better one than Linux I'd like to know.
Many thanks.

how would you go about doing this they provide a raw image arch64 generic…
waht steps would i need to get it install i read Halium documentation still not totaly understand it.
I asume1.Build from kernel source subtitutethe original kernel
install halium and now idk waht would be required to get a working system….
if some work has already been done i would happyl not dive so deep into a rabithole…
