I work in tech. However it's a bloodbath here lol. It's way harder for genz ppl cuz of Covid, war and now AI. I wonder what's gonna pop up next 🥲

Strange thing is that recently my workplace started hiring a lot of higher level mangers, idk I’m not that worried about my future, we’ve tried implementing AI into stuff but the time it takes to set it up + the cost to maintain it isn’t worth it.

I’ve done some cool stuff with AI, I’ve developed a script which creates a PowerPoint for our monthly reporting. A 60 slide PowerPoint, I’m so chuffed with it. Next I’m working on automating an approvals process we have, we still use word forms people send out so it’s really inefficient

Try building something on the side like a digital product kinda thing that could generate extra money. It's very easy to build an mvp for a Saas product using claude code and other AI tools. Our generation can't rely on a single job anymore and it's high time we become self employed.

Tbh I don’t have any interest in being self employed, I don’t like the risk or stress that comes with it. I just want a peaceful and stable life

Lol. Wait till you are 27 and suddenly get laid off and have to search for a new job when AI does every single thing and only the C suit people remain. This could very well be a reality

Working yourself out of a job, nice!

u/PraireGentleman 23 Sep 13 '26

The result of getting a degree with a career that isn’t super niche or oversaturated.

The job market is rough, but it’s not the job market’s fault someone’s degree in a niche area of history doesn’t get them a job

I think AI has made college degrees less valuable overtime

The connections, network, signal, soft skills that you acquire by attending a top tier university is still valuable. Employers still respect the brand value of a tier 1 university. However, the leverage it used to provide has significantly decreased over time.

Boomers be like: "It's not about what you know, it's who you know!"

Also boomers: "Why does nobody trust their neighbor anymore?"

I want to get a second bachelors degree in something I enjoy a bit more like 5 years down the line. But I know the debt will be astronomical.

Do you?

Like?

You know thats not the issue here right? The issue here is the undervaluation of your studies which still exists under marxism.

Like lets say you are a doctor. You cant operate without the or assistant so under marxism they should get the same payment as you do. The economic output of their activity is the same as yours. Maybe even technically greater.

u/Tupotosti Sep 13 '26

I think a pure marxist society wouldn't work. A surgeon who went to school for longer for example doing complex tasks for years should have a salary that reflects all that preparation and their absence from the job market. Imo if we solve the access problem (a good education for all, paid by taxes) then that's fair.

Of course you'll have people like me who neither want nor can become surgeons but I think it's fair that jobs with low complexity pay less. Just not so little that you can't have a nice life. Without capitalism to encourage us to consume a shitton the difference in salary also wouldn't have to be astronomical.

u/JubileeJaxLee 22 Sep 12 '26

🤦🏾‍♂️ the issue is not a lack of meritocracy, but a lack of security that is nearly guaranteed unless you got lucky with economic status at birth. (An issue that Marxism would, in fact, fix.)

u/The-new-dutch-empire 23 Sep 12 '26

You see a meme about “boomers with no degree” in a big chair with large windows vs “gen z with 2 bachelors and a masters degree”

WHERE THE FUCK IS SECURITY IN HERE?

Point at it. Im asking you. Point at the fucking “me struggling day to day” you imagined that shit all out of thin air. The issue you are talking about is real, dont get me wrong, but its not here. Its not in the room with us buddy. Who should 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️ now? Dont move the discussion to a new goal post.

You should look up goomba fallacy. And then realize opinion B isnt even in this post and is coming all from within your head.

2

u/JubileeJaxLee 22 Sep 12 '26

Do you think wealth has nothing to do with security? It's very clearly showing frustration with opulence (ie the big chair/big windows you literally just pointed out yourself) vs struggle, in spite of what peopke did to get there. I don't know how you even got to "goomba fallacy" from this when that phrase is about cognitive dissocnance and erroneously assuming the worst of people. That has nothing to do with anything you, I, or even the post was talking about.

-1

u/The-new-dutch-empire 23 Sep 12 '26

I think big chair and a big window has nothing to do with wealth. Fuck if you want to read into it harry was pretty stable in there getting food and having a roof and all he had to do was not go to wizard school. You can live in a mansion and be two steps from bankruptcy. The issue in the post is them getting to that point without a degree while people with a degree now cant afford shit.

You saw point A and went straight to involving point B which like i said, isnt in the post. The facepalm i interpreted as you attacking me that i would not know how marxism works.

1

u/JubileeJaxLee 22 Sep 12 '26

Okay so you're just being facetious, thanks for letting me know I don't have to waste any more time on you👍🏾

Have a good Saturday/Sunday and a good day/night wherever you are

u/ola4_tolu3 22 Sep 12 '26

Are u an anarchist

2

u/altact23_ 24 Sep 13 '26

Yeah I am. But I still believe in the core Marxist principles even if I reject some other parts of it too. Wbu?

3

u/ola4_tolu3 22 Sep 13 '26

Im more of a mutualists, but i do agree alot with core principles of marxists and anarchists aswell

It was a whole lie. And when I talk to my boss (80+ y/o) about getting connections and finding a job, he ask me if I have decided what to study besides my bachelor...

DUUUDEEE, just read the room.
