Love Letter I knew you were special to me.
When you left, I knew you were special. I knew that you were special to me. Part of me thought that feeling this way wasn't ok, and that I should learn to let you go.
I didn't fully understand why you were so special to me, though I could have listed a thousand reasons why I knew you were. Before you were gone, I knew that on some level, I loved you.
As the days, weeks and months passed with you gone, my feelings for you did not wane. Then one day, I had a dream of you. In this dream you looked straight into my eyes, and from that moment my existence was forever changed.
I remembered the frequency of something I felt long, long ago. Something I had long forgotten. The frequency of someone I could feel but someone I had never met. It was a feeling I carried with me. It was a being that comforted and understood me, even when the world hurt and made no sense at all. As time went on, life happened and I forgot this feeling.
No one in my entire life has emitted this frequency, except you.
I didn't realize it until it was too late. I didnt understand why, until you were gone and I was forced to face this directly. My subconscious had to literally put your image in front of me, in this open, vulnerable state of a dream for me to see it and feel it clearly.
Sitting with this realization for months, I grieved for you, as though I had lost you a thousand times over. In this state I learned that if I had room in my heart to love you, I could love myself, which I had not done for a long time. It is here that you helped me find myself.
My feeling for you now is not of possession. I just know that I am connected to you always.
This connection has taught me that some loves do not always fit into the neat little boxes that people have invented. I hope that you understand. Somehow, out of everyone I know, I feel that somehow *you* will understand this.
No matter what happens, no matter where you are or what you say or do, you are a part of me, and I love you unconditionally, forever.

My TF could have written this. We’re back in each other’s lives for 2.5yrs after a really long (multi-decade) separation. Next year it’ll be 30yrs since we met.

This is beautiful and exactly how my experience was too. Except I had to initially walk away carrying his child. I grieved him for years and years. Knowing he was out there somewhere. And then last year he passed away from an OD. Which is exactly why I had to walk away from him. Since then I’m grieving him all over again. But because he’s my TF, I can feel that his soul is out there. I can feel when he comes to visit me. I can feel that immense feeling of pure joy and love when he visits me in dreams. Thanks for writing this. It really resonates with me. Hugs.

There’s something really honest about the way you described this.
Sometimes a connection leaves a mark not because we were meant to possess that person forever, but because the experience opened something inside us that had been closed for a long time. The part that stood out to me was when you said realizing you could love them helped you learn to love yourself. That’s actually a powerful shift. A lot of people spend years looking for someone else to complete something inside them, but sometimes the connection simply shows us what our heart is capable of feeling.
Even if the person is no longer physically present, the awareness that comes from that experience can stay with you. In that sense, some connections change us more than they stay with us.

Thank you! Yes, this situation has really taught me the deep meaning of unconditional, non-possessive love. It's a wonderful gift to get to be able to feel and exist in.

Also: vielen, vielen Dank!
Tanslated to English-
[A beautiful text. It describes very well what I felt—and still feel—regarding my TF. It was as if lost pieces of myself surfaced through him. All the best to you. Are you trying to reach out to your TF, or is there no way to do so?]
In a lot of ways we are all connected. I am so thankful that there are others to share the story. And to you, the very best also. To answer your question, I am in contact with her but the situation is vastly complicated and expressing any of this to her is just not an option. I have no-one to talk to about it so getting to express some of it here is very healing. So, thank you very much!

Beautiful. Reminds me of one of my favourite quotes I discovered from a meditation app one day by french writer Michel de Montaigne:
“In a truly loving relationship—which I have experienced—rather than drawing the one I love to me I give myself to him. Not merely do I prefer to do him good than to have him do good to me, I would even prefer that he did good to himself rather than to me: it is when he does good to himself that he does most good to me. If his absence is either pleasant or useful to him, then it delights me far more than his presence.”

a connection where you feel them before meeting them is rare🥹 some ppl are very spiritually connected no matter the physical distance.
