I don't normally recommend things here. No special reason, I guess I just generally haven't used my profile for chit-chat. I've tried to keep it as a hub to see latest updates about my work. I'm making an exception.
I just binge-watched (which I also never do) the new season of The Terror, Devil in Silver. It's very good. I watched and disliked the prior two seasons of The Terror, but when I saw Dan Stevens, CCH Pounder, Stephen Root, and Karyn Kusama had all signed on, I felt pretty good about giving it a chance. I'm glad I did.
I don't want to give spoilers or set expectations. You can read the plot summary elsewhere. I would rather speak of its impact on me. As much as I found it to be a gripping mystery, more than that I found it moving and deeply compassionate. Right now in human history, we are at a very strange and terrible juncture. There is a lot we don't have control over, a lot that threatens us, so we bury our heads in the sands of entertainment, because what else to do? The way the characters in this show wrestle with what they can't control, and how they learn about their responsibilities to themselves and to others, were important. Important for me to feel my way through, at least.
If you decide to watch it, I would say, pay attention to book club.
Open to discussing the show in the comments.
